Hello! I would like to call on some knowledge about abandoned cars.. There's an abandoned 126 in a field nearby and I want to know what rights I have? Its in a pretty bad state inside so I will have to do it up over the summer but can i take it away and how/when do I register it etc? Thanks, Mouse:)

Perhpas best to take the reg. number, contact the DVLA to find out who it's registered to and try to contact them. If the plates are missing see if there is any secuity marking on the glass that will give you it, or take the chassis number from under the rubber mat in the front boot. Might be worth a try. I think the DVLa check costs about £7.

Sadly I don't know anyone in that area try the Fiat owners club, GB...

Does anyone know whether the wheels from a BIS are the same (or will fit) a late-model air-cooled 126?

Does anyone know if early 126 chrome bumpers will fit a Bis without modification?

Cheers
Jez

I see no reason why not. I recently broke an aircooled and the plastic bumpers on that were identical to the Bis. Unless my memory is playing tricks then, although the rear panel is different, the mounting points are vitually identical.

The wheels are not quite the same, but they'll fit. The hubs & drums are identical. The wheels themselves have a slightly different profile on account of the different wheeltrims used.

Do the old wheeltrims fit them, then? Or, if you have recently broken an air-cooled, do you still have the set of wheels off it?

I know some of mine asre past it but until I get the others shot blasted I can't tell which ones/ how many are beyond [Log in to view email]

I have decided not to sell my beloved Buttercup (126 Bis). She's a real diamond of a car.

hey guys, you all sound like a knowledgeable bunch. I know that the BIS is likely to have cylinder head problems but does anyone know roughly how often I should expect this? I've just had to replace mine but I was thinking about getting another one in while it's available to use next time. Am I being too pessimistic?

Just checked and yes, the old wheeltrims will fit. The car I broke had 5 good tyres so I'm hanging o to those until I need them!

Thanks for that - in that case I'll lok out for some - I reckon the BIS wheels will be much easier to come by. Ricambio in Surrey can get replacement originals but they're charging £35 each....

Not seen any decent chrome bumpers for about five years I'm afraid.

And as for the head gasket, I personally woyuld get another one while you can, but then I'm a bit of a hoarder anyway. I always keep a spare one in for the 126 and my Moggie Minor. The last 126 one I bought was only about a tenner anyway, but tthat was an aircooled one...

There's a set of X1/9 alloys on Ebay right now, just over £50. They will also fit a 126.
