Same problem with a 98 3.0 Elite. Bought it on Saturday and alarm has gone off at 7:10am for the last 3 mornings running, which is roughly when the sun comes round the side of the house onto the car. I have tried disabling the interior sensors with the button on the dash, but that doesn't fix it either. Anyone know where the alarm module is located until I rectify this?? As my neighbours mite be introducing a brick to the windscreen any morning soon!!! Eeek!

I've been told in the past that it's mounted in the engine bay, on the bulkhead, somewhere below the brake servo and the tube that takes rainwater away from the bulkhead.
I think it's on the driver's side.
Was advised that on earlier models it was because water dropped onto the unit, hence the reaon for being below the tube.
Also been told that it's because the battery drops to some sort of threshold level, and so triggers the alarm.
Apparantly a real bugger to change.
Would be grateful if you would e-mail me directly if this is indeed the problem, as I still have the car - but not using as I am nto driving at [Log in to view email] Everyone thought I was weird when I insisted that the alarm always went off when the sun got to a certain position in the sky as well!!!!!! - hey but at least I'm not alone in being the only nutter around now.

You say "the battery drops below a certain thresh hold" By that do you mean the main car battery or the seperate one for the alarm. I'm gonna go for a good long drive after work to see if I cant get some juice into the main battery. I called up my Vauxhall dealer earlier who says he wants 45 quid to plug a computer into me car then he'll be able to tell whats causing it, may leave that as a last resort. Is there any way of locking an Omega Elite WITHOUT alarming it?? Yes not very good practice I know, but wud be useful to know at the moment.

I have an M reg 1994 2.5 TD estate with 120000 on the clock,a few things that i am not sure about. sometimes when I am in the car after the ignition is switched off the doors lock. Also the heating and ventilation control lighting panel has sections that go out(a thump usually brings them back on). Yes the headlights are bad especially bad along country roads in the rain, any cheap replacements as breakers would proberly have same bad lights? Am going to replace glow plugs(easier to take manifold off )? Please tell me what engine is BMW what ? getting TIS should help. P S great info on website . ADRIAN

Les
I have the same fault with my alarm on my R Reg Vauxhall Omega. The fault goes off in the daytime and at night randomly but it has never gone off when the engine has been moving.
I have informed the Vauxhall adjacent In Stokesley about your note. They are not convinced that your solution is the problem though they seem to have no other ideas. I assumed it would be the relay but your idea makes much more sense.
I am happy for the alarm to be disconnected as the car is quite old and the fix charge would be your £80 + Labour. Do you think this is the best solution?

Thanks

Mike

Have fixed my alarm problem. And I reckon I know what it was too!!!! I worked out that it always went off in bright sunlight, this is true but its not the light thats causing it, its the resulting heat accumulating on the surface of the bonnet causing it to flex slightly and triggering the alarm. The sensor which sits above and to the right of centre is a push switch that you just simply unplug, this has fixed my problem. Hope it helps anyone else. Incidentally I called my dealer who said the alarm cannot be disabled as its part of the ECU, whether thats true or not is a different matter, but unplugging ur bonnet sensor is cheaper than 80 quid!!!

The siren unit (which powers the alarm siren), apparently has its' own battery (in case somemone tries to disconnect the battery etc.) I've been told.
If this battery level drops down to a certain level or below, the alarm may be triggered.

The car can be locked up without arming the alarm by using the key in the drivers door, which will still operate the central locking.
My car is a 1999 MV6 estate, was having problems with the alarm since 2002, so I wasn't (and still are not) impressed with the longevity of these batteries (unless at some point prior to purchasing the car - it had been left to sound off for a long period).

Yes it does, its a Lithium one that lasts between 6-8 years on average apparently. But its part of the alarm module and u cant just replace the battery allegedly, u have to replace the unit and have it re-programmed according to your "Car Pass" details from what I know.

Stokesley Motors have disconnected the two horns used by the alarm system - I thought great as I won't need to replace the lithium battery unit. However I tried to use my horn today - and it does not work! Are the horn and alarm horns linked?

Hi again
Please help a troubled man if you can! That Omega CDX Diesel Auto I bought is giving me nothing but trouble at the moment. The auto box has failed on me. Repair cost £1250. I have an extended warranty - the company are prepared to pay £300 leaving me to pay the rest!
The reconditioning has been completed and box re-fitted BUT the specialist transmission garage phoned me to say that the car has immobilised itself. I tried to guide them over the phone but, in the end, had to go to their rescue. THEY WERE RIGHT!
When I bought the car I was given a key with integral fob (which was not working) and a separate fob (which was). All seemed OK. and I had no problems (although I was never quite sure where to point the fob to release the immobiliser if I had left the car with the doors unlocked and found it had immobilised itself - but I always seemed to get it to work after 2 or 3 attempts).
This is different. The fob will not lock the doors. The immobiliser flashes for about 10 seconds and then stays lit. The central locking works (I have locked the doors from the driver's door lock in the car and by the key outside). I am told that the battery has not been disconnected. All the electrics I have tried seem to be working. The garage, in their attempts to get the car going, had put batteries in the original (integral) fob. I removed them in case there was a conflict between the 2 fobs. That didn't work either.
Now getting desparate! Please can someone help?

You have to force the key around to open the door with no power. It will go and not cause damage. If you use the wrong key the barrel should just rotate with no effect.

Thanks but that's not the problem. The key works and operates the central locking. It turns the ignition. What is NOT working is the electronic fob (or perhaps the sensor). The button on the fob will not work the central locking nor release the immobiliser.
Thanks anyway. Still desperate.

Try on the Yahoo Omega forum there are some knowledgable people there who seem to have come across most faults.

Hi, Don't know if you have received anything further on this as it was some time ago since you posted it. But the clunk noise you are hearing is more than like the link arm on the Strut. Cheap and easy to replace, I did the job both sides in 35 mins.

There's a post on the Yahoo omega forums about this today.....

Put the key in the ignition, press the lock button.

the locks should cycle closed and open. Then it should be OK.

Thanks Fishtank
You say to put the key in the ignition but don't say whether it should be turned. Do you mean me to press the button on the fob or the central locking button on the driver's door?
What's the Yahoo forum's website address?
Thanks

Hi, I have a V6 estate Sreg 114K on clock, no problems with engine, my problem is about warm/hot start. If the car is switched off for 5-10 mins it takes a long time to fire or coughs before firing, occasionaly it fails to start but if left fot 30 mins it will often start first time. Any ideas please. Ken

I am now unable to try the key-in-ignition etc (is that to re-programme the fob?) as the car has now been taken to the high altar (the main dealers)! However, in trying to contact the garage who had supplied the second fob I inadvertantly phoned the previous owner - that was a bit of luck.
Apparantly the first fob was dropped in the sea (I think he's a bit of a yachty) hence the replacement. He tells me that he had experienced problems with the first (even before he drowned it) with dry joints in the circuit board of the fob. He had had to solder them on more than one occasion. This might be the problem now. What do you think? Anyone else experienced this?
Alan
