if it's only showing hot when you're sitting in traffic, it could be the sensor for the radiator fan is faulty, or the fuse/relay for the fan. do you hear the fan come on? it could also be a faulty thermostat. of course there is the possibility that it isn't overheating, and that the guage or temp sensor is faulty.

hi all.. i have a 216 tomcat on a p reg, rover engine. when i leave it ticking over while parked up the water over heats, so i have checked the fuse and it had blown due to the fan had siezed on the radiator. so i have replaced the fan and put a new fuse in still not working, this led me to replace the water temperature sender unit which i bought new and the fan deos not kick in while ticking over still and water is again overheating. any suggestions thanks

Hi there
My SRS light is on permanently in my 7 year old Rover 25. How do you read the codes that tells you the fault. My mechanic has serviced my car recently but is struggling with the problem with the SRS light.
Kind regards
Sue Luckett

I had a similar problem with my Rover 416. Water was leaking from the same place & I had to get the Inlet Gasket replaced. It drove fine for a few days after then thick smoke started coming out the exhust & the engine started to lose power. Wen I got someone to have a look at the car, I realized that one of the whole piston head had blown. I'm assuming this was caused by the continual water leak. So get it looked at asap before it causes even more problem & of course money

does it overheat all the time, or just in traffic? If it's just in traffic, the fan probably isn't coming on (blown fuse, faulty relay, loose or dirty connection, faulty temp sender, faulty fan unit)
If all the time, faulty radiator cap, sludged up system, clogged radiator matrix.

I have been driving my 7 year old Rover 25, having put K seal in the overflow tank on recommendation of an expert, for about 9 months, to 'cure' a water leak. It turned out to be the head gasket and the engine ceased up 2 weeks ago on the way home from work Min cost £550 , max cost - infinity. I am still saving up the money to get it done. It's only done 57,000 miles and I have just paid out £300 for its annual service.

Hi
Don't dispair I found a rover workshop manual online for a few pounds and replaced the head gasket myself which cost me about 40 pounds including oil and coolant. It is not too difficult if you follow the manual closly and avoid scratching the mating faces, scrape them clean with an ice scraper.
Mine is now working fine and has done a very similar mileage. The main difficulty is getting rid of air traps in the heater matrix which causes gurgling in the heater.

Hi. Well all I can say is you are lucky. it is best to machine the head. Also you don't mention the timing belt, this should be replaced whenever it has been removed unles it is quite new.

Yes the timing belt was quite new and I checked the head for warpage when renewing the gasket. It's not the first time I have renewed head gaskets and I find the process is not difficult if you use some common sense and read up on correct procedures.

Good Morning All,
I was after a bit of help please... I just purchased a rover 114gsi last week and have noticed whilst driving it this week that the temp gauage is rising up to 3/4 full. This happens when im driving about town and on B roads etc.. I have looked about this forum and noticed the dreaded head gaskets get mentioned frequently!! Is there any things I can do to try and eliminate the issues?
Many thanks in advance

Hi My story so far, I have a 7 year old Rover 25 with 57000 on the clock. I have blown my headgasket. I've had a water leak for a year and was advised to put K seal in the overflow tank after local garages could not find out where the problem was. Keep checking your water.
The head has been taken on the back of my son's motorbike to an engineering company for them to do a pressure check. Family have dismantled the necessary area of the engine. A local garage quoted me £550.00 to do this work. I now have to wait and see what the damage is. With this check I have spent £200.00 so far.
Regards
