To all.

This is the end of the road...iam not continuing on this site with others who are unable to grasp anything.

Ive given 4 years on here and i have told the truth all along...im not in it to make money...im here to give advise and help people.

I will not continue to have my advise called lies and anything i write be pushed under the table like i have other motives.

People on here think theyre being clever by shouting down my advise and that they are helping people....well your not....other people come on here for advise for other items also, but like i said previous it will be no longer from me.

Stewart and SteeleUK i wish you well and appreciate your additions to this very long thread....hope that your mods continue to give you long service...and if they dont i realise the fact you will get on with your life and take it on the chin.

steeleuk,,how much milage have you done since repair, also why not get the guy back to fit a low water level warning kit ,it will save the neighbours taking about you saying what is he doing under that bonnet all the time lol,,why not put the guys contact no on here who did repair so he can fix other members headgaskets that have blown ,,also if he did a repair for 400 pounds it makes you wonder why the hell tata charge the amount they do and lie in saying they are paying 50 percent towards the costs ,,do they think there customers are thick and dont realise that they just inflate the price of the job .fingers crossed on your repair .

That's sad dudkat but I thought as much a while back. Nevertheless, just ignore these neg posts. Yes, I thought you were summarising neg stuff with cuts and pastes!! Keep kool friend.

Steeluk is right and it seems, the only member with so much mileage on his HG repair - so keep wotching this space all.
Steeluk can PM (Private Message) any genuine individual in his locality, for the contacts of his Tech.

Mitch - do you need any further guidance with the correct repair procedures? To simply info searches - just click on the member's name/personal info on the left of post. Remember these guys -
Telfor - Hammil - Dudkat72

Good luck all, I will be watching this space.

Hi there dudkat72, steleeuk and friends - we will no longer admit 'emotional value' to NEGATIVE LR Comment ??

We want dudkat and the likes back on our friendly and, seemingly long standing Forum!

My Labrador should be settling down in the UK right now, and ready for his task!

dudkat, can you please PM me, I am finding it difficult to get yours.
A friend on the Forum has given me some guidance, but it doesn't work!
He and I have had a good Email conversation, and therefore I insist you remain on the Forum.

Incidentally, he has 20 Th Kms and 18 Mths since the MLS Plus plus Kit!!! So, that is the Forum's 2nd confirmed 'Life' with the MLS KIT!

How's that steleeuk ?? Not a 'driveway job' though (LOL)!

Now for my input, to balance the odds????
(Edited copy from a PM Email of mine, to a Forum Member)

Serious members, can give this some thought!

Repeat HG Failure :-

The Car must go back to the original repairing Dealer, with the LR Forum Tech (or Independant Engineer) present during the diagnosis and, strip ?

I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT REPAIRS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT TO SPEC, with Technical Ability - even in the LR Dealerships!!

- definitely why, there are repeat HG issues!

Please Forum, make sense of the following please. HG Failure?

Overheating = Age of Vehicle? Poorly maintained Cooling Systems - lack of maintenance (SG of Coolant & annual replacement), hoses, pipes, valves, taps and radiator, not forgetting Pressure Cap? Heating Matrix Failures? Water Pump Seal failures (steelUK).

MG TF's and Lotus' are worse - mid motor, front rads = long COLD plumbing ??

Makes you think beyond the obvious - "EVERYBODY SAYS HG Failure" - again !!!

Yup. The K18 motor is a powerful, flexible and vibrant motor, but very critical with temperature regulation and driving attitude!

Hammil spells it out in his book!

Gud nite every one. See you all 2moro!

Stewart W - Cape Town.

I have to remind you, as others, .... you are encroaching a 'Family' here ....

Please leave us peacefully .....

As in Africa. An injury to one, is an Injury to the family ......!

My 'Kitty Cats' are interested in you now! ?? Your choice.... ??

Hi all. Phew that was a lot to digest.

Im in the UK (minus car obviously) for my birthday and have actually been trying not to think about this over the weekend.

The Swiss garage have my lovely (and evil) LR and Ive sent a mail today to ask for more time before a decision so I can digest all this info and get my head around these posts.

Neither Swiss LR nor the garage that the car is at right now seem to know this issue well enough to fix it and so Im worried. At this point rather fly somene from th UK and fix it - probably be cheaper. Its such a shame its stuck in Switzerland and i cant get it back to Guy Salmon, Sockport. Im screwed really. Ive only been in Swiss since Jan and dont know that many people there and for anyone who has been the local Swissies are a very closed group when you are an expat and especially if you cant speak Swiss German.

Options are still> 1. Scrap a 4 year old beautiful car.
2. Fix for 3,700 CHF and drive to UK, fix windscreen (not under insurance as I have no UK insurance now. Swiss have quoted 1,400 CHF), get UK MOT (probably new tyres needed), it all works out more than the value of the car

argh

I cant speak to the Swiss German garage to get any futher sense out of them / I just know they dont want the car - its no ue to them right handed and thez say it would never sell apart from for scrap. Im not sure there is a good way out of this one.

I really appreciate all the (sensible) posts and advice. Even if I got the recommended book - this Swiss guys wont be able to read it and woud probably do their own thing anyway.

Damn. I just want my LR back up and running. I love that car.

Ive tryed to ge the users BB details etc - but cant see it. Stewert Ive sent you an email.

If there was a way to get the car to the UK it would be ideal but a the moment I think Im pretty screwed. Other option is get a good LR guy from UK (like SteeleUK)for cheap, fly to Basel and get it fixed (on driveway!!!) - would that be a possibility????

Thanks all

Im still following the post

Apologies for typos - Im on the oldest PC I ever saw with a v dodgy keyboard

Hi Mitch

Hopefully someone will help you on this forum, my advice would be the same as Stu's, in that I would put it on one of the European Ebay websites. I sold mine on Ebay UK, and funny enough it was bought by a Polish couple who were working in the UK, they came to collect it with a car trailer, the husband was a qualified mechanic, its now somewhere in Poland. Europe is a pretty big place, so there maybe someone who may be looking for one.

Or why not get your dad to hire a car trailer, and tow it back home.

The decision you have to make is a hard one, I was in exactly the same boat with my Freelander, you were very, very unlucky that the headgasket failure happened in Switzerland.

Hope all goes well.

Hell Basel brings back memories, I stopped for a night there and camped on my way to Zurich as a teenager travelling europe on my motorbike. got very drunk on a local brew called drip, made from apples!!

Cant help with the LR I'm afraid (long time since I was a mech and that was on heavy plant :-))but good luck with getting it sorted.

Steeleuk

You or anyone else do not have to read my posts!

Just ignore what I am saying, if you do not agree with me then this is the best option.

But I certainly will be voicing my opinion, when someone says they have had no headgaskets failure in 2.5 years if the new modified gasket is fitted correctly. This is not what my local garage are saying. And Mitch's Freelander is testament to what I am saying! Yet another headgasket failure, and who repaired her previous headgasket failure? A Land Rover dealer, if he can't fix it, who can!!!

I agree with Stu, this 4x4 has brought much happiness and lots and lots of misery when it goes wrong! And if you had one like mine its going to cost you £££££'s we are talking in the £1,000's

Cut out the bad language please!

if you buy the book that tells you all the tech advice you need to know ,as to the best up to date way of temporary fixing the k series engine ,so if thats the case what is the point of having a forum on the subject ,its to try and help people get out of a hole like mitch is in ,it seems like a close club or family on here now where if you dont agree with what certain members think you become a outcast and have the cats set upon you ,lol
