Where has all the 126 chat gone? I miss my daily dose of news from the bizers! If you don't have a whole discussion but want to say something stick it here to save 'Preloves most popular car' becoming just a list of faults. Hope to hear from you soon!

Ah, Hmmm,
We've now got three chat 'Discussions' going. Is this getting (or going to get) confusing ??? I really don't want to have to post "I LOVE 126s" three times !
BTW, Purdey, how's the roofless 126 coming on ? Done any welding yet ?

Progress has been slow on the car. I've been putting some time into getting an engine and have just had a couple of disapointments so still looking. I haven't even taken a picture of the car yet as I just had to piled a load of stuff on it so I could work on my other car (who'd have 'em eh?).
I have just made a model of how I want the 126 to look when its finished. It's not a bad first stab, but I wouldn't buy one so it more work required!

Dodo, how is your handy work coming along?

Hi Matt,
Handiwork ?? Do you mean the Cinque model ? I have remodelled both back and front and finished the rear screen area. It looks OK, but I really need to have a convex rear screen to adequately blend with the original roof line. I've been looking at any coupes to see if they have the right sort of screen/ tailgate. What I would really love to get is the rear window from a Vauxhall Tigra. Also I noticed that the windscreen from a Daihatsu Hijet is just the right shape.
I bought a K reg Panda 1000ie the other day, so now I have either the donor for the Dart Firefly kitcar, or a 1000cc engine for my tatty 126. Now if I were to fit a Strada 105 TC engine to the Panda, I could do both. Dream on.

You sound to be as bad as me! Another reason my progress is slow is I have to keep working on other projects as well. It would have been handy if I'd finished others before I started this one.
Which one of your projects is going to get priority then?

Hi Folks, hope you don't mind me chipping in! Its my first time on here (although I am in the top 10 posters on the 500 club chatsite). I saw mention of a roofless 126 ??? I've got one that was professionally converted from new & its a Bis. I also have an aircooled 126 but thats off to a new home soon, & a convertable Fiat 500. Might see some of you at the MicroManiacs run this weekend if I can get the car ready in time!

Cheers, Mitch

WOW so its all go for everyone! I am still waiting for Fiat to send me a choke cable because mine SNAPPED - woops. They said they dont think it will be ready for another 2 weeks and I have already waited 2 weeks GRRRR. Its times like this when I begin to lose my Fiat faithfulness and think "maybe I should just spend the money on a vw..."! Its terrible - especially since I went to a VW meet on sunday and saw a BEAUTIFUL little Lupo and I could reach the pedals too :)
Its also my 21st birthday and have been given some money.. darn parents! I think they're hinting at getting rid of the "pile of rust on the drive" (Molly) and getting something newer so I dont have to borrow mum's tank ("The Dragon")! Its a diesel Seat Cordoba- the MOST boring car to drive!
AH well, someone please restore my faith in Fiat..

Happy Birthday Mouse! I reckon you you put a VW engine into your fiat. That way you have the character of the 126 with the reliability of the VW. Sorted. Not really the easiest option I guess, but you can't just leave us! It wouldn't be right. I have the fiat as a second car which seems to work quite well.

Thank you Purdey!Well, i have a 1.3 polo engine which I could put in my 126 -whew I could go really fast then! heeheehee :)
I would like to keep Molly even if I get another car as a project so we'll see how it goes when i get the choke. My issue with another car is that fact that I dont like driving anything other than Molly because she's SUCH fun when she's going.. I'm sure you all know what I mean!
Anyway off to work and I'm out tonight for a few drinks just to celebrate being 21 ARGH!

Hi Mitch,

Welcome to our site, I'm sure with a collection of Fiats like you have you will be more than welcome. Can you make it to the meet this weekend in one of them?
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the welcome Mike & Happy Birthday Mouse. Its a long time since I was 21 (back in the sixties!) but what is significant is that I had just got my first brand new car... a Fiat 500. The attraction of little Fiats is still there now.
The run at the weekend...If I can replace the exhaust, swap some dodgy seatbelts & do a bit of rewiring on the headlights before then, we will be there. Hope its fine, the convertable has a hood but the doors have no windows or sidescreens!
Good to see this site...Too many 126s have been scrapped to update a 500 (I've done my share) & they are already quite rare. One third of all 500s made are said to be still around, bet you can't say that about the 126!
Hope to meet you all at the weekend,
Mitch

Hey Cardigan!
There are often a few on ebay but i'm always wary of that - rather look in the free ads and autotrader - and of course this site!

Mouse :)
P.S Guys, today I got a shock - i found a REAL mouse in Molly ARGH! I have no idea how on earth it got in there but it had muched through a roll of toilet paper and ate some of my sweeties - and as i opened the door it jumped out and ran away! Luckily it has not eaten the seats!!

Heehee:) Well I dont know yet because I am STILL waiting for my choke cable assembly from fiat 4 weeks later... then Molly should be squeek and mouse free! I think what may have attracted a mouse is the fact that my nickname is mouse and i have to soft toy mice on the dash board. Maybe the real mouse thought they were companions? Bless.
Mouse :)
