Hi, I've just bought a water cooled 126 but am desperate for more performance, in this thread there are a few pointers to an engine swap, this is something I'd like to try, however are there any "easy" swaps, ie, larger Fiat engines that will bolt on to the 126 gearbox casing and require minimal fabrication, obviously engine mounts and exhaust manifold?

FSM 126 Wiring Diagram

Hi all, i have an australian version of this car, ie. a Niki. It is 1990 model 650 aircooled. I am wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram they can email me. My adress is "juraj at smartchat.net.au" - sorry about the ugly email, but trying to avoid email harvesting robots.

bye

Hello Lunatics ;)

I also have a nice Fiat 500 with a 126 engine. Mods include: sport camshaft, lightened flywheel, Panda head, Dellorto 40DHLA and a Giannini style exhaust plus a 5speed gearbox, disc brakes etc etc etc.

So I went the classical way and found that overheating is really an issue. After doing 140-150km/h for 5 or 6 minutes engine gets too hot and have to stop. So now an oil cooler project is to follow. After complete redesigning of front suspension, after going upward with ccm, after lightening the body...

You can check my pics here:

All the best to everyone.

Hello,

My name is Cristian and I own a 1972 Fiat500R. I have some
problems with the engine and I found a Fiat Panda30 engine to buy.

I would appreciate if somebody could tell me if I can replace the Fiat500 engine with a Panda30 motor and what modification I have to make.

Thank you!
Greetings,
Cristian

not sure if this is the right place to ask but hay i may as well ask .
iv got a 126 and I love it I really do only it's recently developed like well alot of problems .
car skips out of gear .
backfires .
somtimes the car jsut seems to have asolutly no power then a little later liek the next day it'll have the power back .
also the car constantly does this thing of when I go down a hill the engine turns of then when I get back on flat road it starts it'self back up . also the engine keeps runnin after I turn it off for about 10 seconds .

anyhow im takin it to autoitalia mechics to be checked out and fixed as best as possible in the next few days but any info on what could possible be causein that stuff would be great thanks alot!!!

(this car was australian delivered) i got the car in november of last year and since then, i have slowly worked on the car to bring it up to its current level.

here you can see all the work that has gone into it, from when i got it, to its current level. i just bought some new hankook tyres for the front wheels. the car will finally get on the road on this wednesday, funnily enough, on my 18th birthday

Great to see people still modding and loveing their 126's!
I rebuilt an NCF Blitz off road buggy which uses all the running gear from a 650cc 126
http://www.grothy.freeserve.co.uk <- my web page about it

I wonder if any of you have seen the tuning pages here-> http://www.blitzracing.co.uk under the Fiat Tuning section
- It is quite frankly the best tuning guide for these engines I've seen., Mark has been experimenting with twin port heads and using motorbike carburettors on the engines. I have some pictures of a nice Abarth engine on my website with a twin port head and a Weber DCOE-40 carb.

all the best
Matt

Hi Christian

The Panda 30 engine is a development of the original Fiat 500 engine, which was uprated and used for aircooled 126s and then Panda 30s. In theory, you can fit the engine, but would require some parts of a 126 engine to do it. Try calling Middle Barton Garage and ask for Tony, who's also trying to do the same - he may let you know what your chances are and what parts you may need. Nice engine - 30BHP - nearly double that of a stock 500.

As far as I'm aware, the most of the engine is internally the same as a very late 126 aircooler - its the twin port head and carb that makes the real difference. So if the entire engine is too big a problem to fit, keep the head and carb and bob them on a 126 engine, which will take it up to about the same performance. The fan casing on the 126 engine will need modding, or you can safely trim the head to the 126 profile. Note: the Panda head won't go on a 500 engine - the barrells are too small.

My first time to this site and i felt i should join in, I have a 126 BIS, runing a lightly modified engine as follows

Gas flowed head, oversized valves (three angle cut ) custom made. Skimmed head increeasing compression. Custom inlet manifold running horizontally apposed 1 1/4" strombergs with 3" ram pipes ( no engine bay modifications what so ever). brand new AP clutch. lightened and rebalanced bottom end, on a fully needle roller bearing crankshaft ( got sick of eating through big end bearings after the third one in 100 miles lol) and a full custom stainless exhaust that runs across the bottom and returns acroos the back of the car and exits out a custom silencer ( Imagine loud harley!!)

Also i am running 13" speedlines in white and a suede steering wheel. I can take pictures if anyone wishes to see the setup on the engine

keep up the excitement everyone Doug
