Hi. The power steering was probably just a bad connection, it is a common fault.
The speedo could be the speedo drive, another common fault.
The ECU warning light could be because of the above faults.
Has the ECU been read for fault codes, if so what were they ?

Fiat never said anything about my ECU, they said a new speed sensor and a new steering shaft. But the mechanic i had look at my car knew some one from fiat and he looked at it as a nixer and said i needed a new ECU. The garage didn't say i needed one when the car was read. So how can the mechanic from fiat see that i need a new one? i dont know who to believe. I wonder if i just get my speed sensor replaced will everything be ok. That will only costs 30 euro for the part, its better than paying loads for a new ECU. My p/s light is back on too.

I have a 98 Punto 60sx which has developed a 'whirry' noise between 2000 & 2500 revs when the engine is cold.
It usually disappears when the engine is hot.
It sounds to come from the fuel injector area but is difficult to pinpoint.
It doesn't seem to affect performance but sounds awful.
Any ideas ???

punto 188, 1.2 8v... PAS light can be caused by faulty shaft sensors meaning replacement shaft and ecu unit, or caused by road speed sensor error. as far as i know the sensor is not modidfied but an additional wiring harness is used as there is a problem with the power line to sensor. remember due to the digitally shared information this error will show in engine ecu and PAS ecupunto 176, 55 or 60 ecu errors are usually coil failures with obvious missfire punto 176, 70 ecu errors are usually coil with missfire or water sensor causing high idle remember though all should be checked and ask the dealer for a examiner print of sheet.

Hi. Tha PAS light also comes on because of poor multiplug connections under the column, best to check these before you pay a garage for diagnosis.

Hi
I checked the two connectors ( fixed to the power steering control unit) - i belevie thosde are the blue 2 pin and black 10 pin - but still the p/sis not working , Fiat garage in my country says the fualt is from the p/s control unot , and as the whole assemlyof the p/s is built in (one unoit ) so i have to replace the whole p/s assembly which costa about 5,500 LE ( 920 US$ aprox ... can any body advise ????

Hi
I have checked the blue and black cables attached to the p/s control unit and still the light is on and p/s not working , fiat dealer says the scanner reads and error on the p/s control unit and the whole p/s and steering bar assembly need to be replaced as the whole assembly id built in ( compact one peice) it costs about 5,500 LE ( 950 US$ aprox) can u plz advise

THE RED POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS CAME ON IN MY CAR THIS MORNING AND STEERING IS VERY HEAVY! IS THIS LIKELY TO BE AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM OR WHAT???
HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE BEFORE???

Yeh i see the posts my dad was taking it to a fiat gargage today but they have let us down its costing £68 just to look at it!He is taking it to a local guy he knows who says he has an analyser thingy will this help do you think?

He has probably got a code reader. The first thing to check is the connections under the steering column failing that look at the BBA-REMAN site.

Hopefully he will ive only had the car about a month! got it privately im a bit worried this might cost a lot to fix!my dad has a punto and the light came on on his before but it never done anythin to the steering!

MY CAR IS A 2000 I THINK! I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WAS FINE LAST NIGHT THEN WHEN I TURN IT ON THIS MORNIN THIS HAPPENS THERE WAS NO LIGHT ON LAST NIGHT! AND NO HEAVY STEERING????!!!!!

I mean if Fiat had fitted electric power steering on earlier cars they would have ended up the same way as Rover, mind you that wouldn't be so bad, we might still have Rover then. The Italians should stick to cooking and ice cream.

Same way that a bulb blows, got to break sometime. That's the problem with electrics, Not normally any warning that it is about to pack up.
