could any one tll me what the orange light above the 'your lights are on symbol' is for it comes on when i start my cr then goes out part way down the road. please can anyone give me any clues

Hi. Best bet is to look in your handbook, if you don't have one then can you describe what the symbol is.

Hi, I have a 2002 '52' plate Punto Active 8v which at some time in its life has had pretty much every fault known to man! but at the moment has an intermittent issue with starting... Its fine 9 times out of 10 but occasionally it wont start just turns over and doesnt fire. if i leave it 10 minutes and come back to it it will start perfectly or...... if i Bump start it it again starts perfectly.
Now i know a little about cars (Well i say a little i restore classics as a hobby) but very little about modern engines and electrics. I do feel fairly sure that it is not the battery as it turns over like a trooper not stopping for breath. I am leaning towards this Crankshaft sensor thing at the moment but wondered if there was anyone out there that could support my assumption?

gas probe in exhaust pipe is probably at fault tells ecu mixture is too rich and then either shuts down or goes into limp home mode

Hi,
Iive had my fiat punto for 4 mnths and already have had to have a new head gasket. Now there is a light on the dashboard, an orange key with the word code under it. What does this mean? Its a 51plate and I never got a manual, ta,

My daughters 02 Fiat Punto has been regularly cutting out lately and takes around 15-30mins before it will start again. A trip to a local garage came up with diagnostic test codes of unknown origin so they referred her to the main dealer who charged her £80 for finding nothing wrong. She broke down on the way home late last night and then twice this evening coming home from work. Britannia rescue were called out and the guy couldn't believe that the main dealer found no fault code, he did spot a small oil leak coming from the cam pickup and thought it could be leaking onto a sensor so the computor thinks the cars on fire and shuts down. I,ll certainly let you know if it is the problem but somehow I don't think it will be.

Reply to terri-anne.I'm having the exact same problem... i have no idea what this symbol means. I do have a manual but it doesn't mention this light/symbol at all and it is driving me mad...if anyone know's what it is or if u have found out can u please tell me!

Well in reply to my own query it was the crankshaft sensor at fault, I have replaced this and my starting issues have gone away.

think its something to do with head lamps my goes off iff i hit a speed bump. someone said i had a lamp out went over a bump head lamp came on light on dash went out

Adendum
Daughter broke another three times during the day. Rescue man didn,t even bother trying to restart, just towed her home as he thought it might be the "oxygen sensor", I,m reluctant to take it to a garage because I,m sure they will not diagnose anything and charge a fortune for the privellige. Really don,t know what to do. The car will cut out at anytime while driving along (which is potentially dangerous) preceded by a slight surge forward. Anyone any ideas?

have you checked for dirt in fuel line try red ex in fuel it mite help
sometimes if the fuel pipe has a pin head hole in it it causes this prob

Hi. It should be easy yo find the fault if the car is not running, if the car is running and there is no fault logged then the garage would possibly need to try to make the fault occur. It may be worth getting the fuel presswure checked if it has not already been done.

Used the car for work myself this morning and after about 5miles (can be any distance) with no warning at all and whilst driving along the engine cut out, it didn,t cough or sputter, just simply died. I was able to turn the engine over immediately after but it made no attempt to start. I left it for about 10-15 minutes and then the engine started (???). I guess because it didn,t cough and splutter I,ve excluded any thoughts around fuel, each time after this happens a symbol of an engine stays on for a day or so.

Hi. If the light is on then there should be fault codes logged.

Hi, please can anyone help? I have an S reg Punto and the fuel injection light keeps coming on which makes my car cut out if stationary/in first gear driving slowly or it kangaroos all over the place when driving in higher gear. This happens pretty much everytime I drive the car and is obviously getting quite annoying as I have to turn the car back on everytime I stop at traffic lights.
I have taken the car back to the garage I got it from, they put it on some machine and then told me nothing was wrong with the it. I'm not sure if they're only saying this because they gave me a warranty on the engine for 1 year and so they'll find the fault when the warranty has expired..not that I'm cynical or anything!! Hope someone can help?

my fiat punto reg Y (2001) wont start, then sometime it does start, so went to garage for computer checked, and it doesnt show any faults, so he had a look and think need new ECU and a throttle body whichs cost 800 pounds altogetheir, so i cant afford it, so i got rid it, and planning to get new car, as its not worth it to buy new part into punto, plus i had loads problem with it such as window wiper , back noisey, engine cutting out etc...............ill neva buy fiat cars ever in ma life hope this will help you...and good luck with punto!

I took the car to my friends garage. It did cut out while he was testing it. He renewed two sensors (nearly two weeks ago now) and it hasn't cut out yet, touch wood (i,m holding on to my wooden computor desk!).
Sorry to hear about your troubles, mind you, I haven't had the bill yet, but I hope its cheaper than replacing the car.

thats your immobiliser key code the key you start the ignitio with should either be red (original) or have a red square in it this is the master key and is needed to start the car eventually the immobiliser might kick in and stop you car all together
