There is two LED's one that can indicate low petrol and another above it on the left hand side of the dash, it hasn't got a symbol next to it... it is just a red light.

symbol looks like front of car, midway along cab to front bumper, with bonnet up, no wheel or wheel arch.

Hi all,
In a real tight spot. Just bought a 2001 punto ELX. It started perfect at start, but now the engine management light comes on when i turn the ignition and it won't start. the engine will tick over but nothing more. Unfortunately i've only got the blue key? If anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.........

Yes FIAT , Fix It Again Tommorow . ECUs are £170.00 easy to fit no special tools needed , to reset Engine light after fitting warm up car fully , engine light will be flashing all the time , then rev once to 5000 rpm . ECU will recode its self and work perfectly.

Not heater matrix as later ecus are on the side of the throttle body , usally due to high resistance in the high tension ignition circuit , coils/plugs / ignition leads , this causes the ecu to have to switch & shunt more current.

my power steering has gone off apparently fiat wont help well there haelp is yes thats 600 pound for a new steering column yeah ok. i have heard that the problem could be my torque sensor but dont know were to get one anyone help send me an email if u could thanx [Log in to view email] cheers

Hi. I am afraid it is a very common problem. Find an independant garage it should cost around half of Fiat dealer prices. Why do people use the main dealers ?????????????????????????

Hey Terriers,
Im gettin a 02 punto active 5dr now in about a week on Finance
I'll have it payed off in a year. The Dealer sed he wud gimme 1 Year warranty, So i want to get it as a first car and then sell on @ the end of next year, so Hopefully anything that may have went wrong the dealer shud be able to fix! (Sumtin tells me thats obviously not going to be the case) I have read nearly every post here and The main ones i think to look out for are: The Steering column - The E.C.U and the coils - Gearbox - and maybe the clutch.
What do you think the Dealers Warranty will cover, and what Do u think I shud make sure I have covered on the warranty Before agrreing on Purchasing the car. I havent had a test drive yet and The dealer sed he is giving it a service now to be ready for me next week. Its only done 33,000 miles. Looks Great too!
Any advice Terriers Will B Brill Help, You seem to know your stuff!!

Hi. Dave,
Thanks for the compliment, Firstly you have just about covered the major problems with the Punto, what I can't understand is if you know about the problems why buy one ? A warranty is ok but it doesn't prevent the inconvenience of breakdowns and not having a vehicle.
If you are still going to buy the car then go to the dealer and ask to see the warranty documents and check what is covered, the maximum amount per claim and maximum claims per year. I personally would avoid Fiats at all costs but it's your money.

Thanks terriers! Will keep in mind. Am goin to get the car maybe next week, So gonna give it a gud check out b4 i Buy it! Lol, ya prob think im mad going for it, But its only 3,600 euro with 33,500 miles, 1 year warranty, N.c.t (thats M.O.T. to you ;) )until 08/08.
Its my first car and its not too dear and not too cheap. Just incase i wrap it around a lamppost or sumtin :) Will have paid for it at the end of the year so I can sell it if its too much hassle and wont really lose money considerin the price im getting it for! and the price i can sell it for when im finished paying for it.
Thanks for your help though, Really has put me wide bout alot of things.
So dont be surprised if im back here soon lookin for help bout the Punto. (Fingers crossed) luk on the bright side, Ya can say ya told me so!!
Really good forum this, Shud deff be alot more like this.

My g/f also has the problem with her PAS on a Punto 1.2 and we've already been through the gearbox/clutch scenario (£500+).
I'm going to change the fuse to see if that will cure it. Can anyone give me a clue which one it might be? Is it one of the maxis or the minis. Incidentally, the horn isn't working either so I'm wondering if they're on the same circuit.Oh yes. Where might I buy them from as my local motoring diy shop doesn't stock all the different types?

Hi , my horn isn't working on my punto 1.2 either. If you find out it is a fuse, let me know which one you have changed and i will try that on mine.

Air bag warning light has come on my fiat punto. I have checked fuse and its ok. Can any one shed sum light on this matter? The book says take car to garage but i would like to fix it my self if possible.

Hi. Due to the nature of the airbag system it is not advisable to work on it unless you are competent, if you feel you can do this then you MUST disconnect the battery for at least 15 minutes before working on any of the components.
There will be a fault code logged which will possibly be a seat sensor or pretensioner fault, obviously it is best to locate the fault first in which case you will probably need to take the car to a garage anyway.

Hiya guys I recently brought a Fiat Punto (X) 2000 mode. I have been driving it around comfortable since I brought until 2days ago when I drove it home and the next morning I started the car and a light on the dashboard came up, it was the steering wheel light and the wheel felt really heavy. Then soon after my car alarm start playing up so I had to lock the car manual until I got it fixed. I got the Alarm fixed and the garage assured me that the steering wheel will now feel light and would give you no problems. As soon as I get home and switched off my car the same problem occurred therefore I called the mechanic and he came down and took it away for further testing. He calls me a few hours later suggesting the Issue is gone. I would jus like to know what an issue is and if that is the real problem? What could be the problem please help!!!

Hi. It could be linked to the alarm but it is more likely to be a steering fault.

Yes, If all the electrical connections to the motor etc are ok then it will probably need a new assembly.
