hi i have an x reg punto 1.2 with what seems like the same problem as most other punto owners! The engine management light came on for a couple of seconds on a few occasions but there were no symptoms to anything being wrong. finally after starting the car the car would only reach 30mph with my foot to the floor on the accelerator pedal. Then after about 1/2 mile the power suddenly kicked in and shot me forward nearly running me into the back of the car in front! It has done this on a couple more occasions and finally i thought enough is enough and luckily for me my dad is a mechanic who looked at it. His diagnostic machine firstly hinted at the ecu so he sent it away to a diagnositc place who specialise in ecu's they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. So dad decided to change the coils, this still didnt work. the diagnostic then said it was only running on 2 cylinders so he replaced an injector. this seemed to do the trick for all of one whole day! not wanting to risk spending a fortune on a car only worth £1000 second hand i have told my dad not to waste his time or anymore of my money soi have had to buy another car. However i want to try and get my punto working again but cheaply if possible. I want to be able to sell it as a functioning car to recoup some towards the new car ive had to buy. What else is there left to try with it?????

hi iv got a fiat punto 2002 and my key snapped how much would it cost me 2 get a new 1. i also got a red seatbelt iwarning indicator on an its always on. wat do i do? thnx

Have had a Fiat Punto 2001 for 3 years. 2weeks after purchased, engine management light kept coming on and had to get ECU changed as engine cut out whilst driving. 1 Year later, back windscreen wipers kept coming on intermittently and car would then just stop in middle of the road with engine management system light on. Took it to the Fiat dealership who could find nothing wrong with it, cos of its intermittent nature. After much fighting with them, they finally found a faulty plastic valve which caused this fault. NO Problems till - 1 Year later - engine management light kept coming on intermittently and car had difficulty starting but other times no problems. Car engine intermittently cutting out whilst driving. Been into 3 different garages last year for 6 weeks. Fiat dealership a complete waste of space! Local mechanic fixed spark plugs, HT leads, lamba sensor and changed battery. Car worked excellent for 3 months. NOW engine cutting out every 5 minutes and every single warning light is coming on when this happens.
I have bought another car.
My Fiat is sitting in the drive whilst I consider how to dispose of it.

Hi Terriers, I have an 03 Punto, coming home tonight revs started going up and down on their own when at idle in traffic and when i pressed accelerator revs go thru the roof (uncontrollable)pulled over and turned off engine, when i restarted it first revs go right up to max (without touching accelerator) then fall and constantly go up and down of their own accord between 1000rpm and maybe 1500rpm (acc not pressed) and engine light flashing i know i need to get a diagnostic check but is there anything i can check before i do that, read posts about maybe a vacuum hose has come off or something thanks for any assistance

Hi, I hhave a fiat Punto 51 plate, this morning the engine light came on (just bove the fuel light) its a an orange engine shaped light, I have cked my break lights which all seem to be working, can anyone shed any light on this for me please.Grateful forever

Hi All, I am new here...
I have a 2nd hand X reg punto which runs very well. Although when driving and breaking (mostly breaking) an amber warning light comes on. There seems to be no difference in performance but I am getting very concerned about this as it is flashing up more often now.
The light is like an exclamation mark in a triangle.
Can anyone give me some idea what this is indicating me to..?
Is this the engine management light from previous posts..?

can anyone help. I have a 51 plate fiat Punto, the engine mamagement ligt came on this morning as haas remained on evver since. My sto lights are fine, does anyone know what this may indicate?The cars running & starting fine touch wood!!! But help Please

hi jp, you need to check the brake fluid as the light onyour dash is telling you that the brake fluid level is low..please do this asap..cheers..moz.

iv got d same problem my engine managment light is on and u have to go to the fiat dealrs to get it of. your car would drive fine but get it checked out, maybe some of your sensors have gone.

hey moz, not sure if you replied to me?? Im new to the forum! My engine mamagement system light which is orange is on and has been for 2 days, can you tell me what this may mean? or is it the brake fluid? The car seems to be running ok cheers

Hi! I bought a K&N induction kit for my Fiat Punto Sporting (2002) and it has been great. The only problem is the fuel management light has come on. I have now scrapped the induction kit and returned to using the normal air filter it came with. However, the fuel management light remains on. If I take it for a long drive i.e. round the M25 it goes out but is back on within a couple of days!! Has anybody any good ideas for a more permanent fix please? I know a guy who can put a computer on it for me but was trying to avoid any more costs.

Hey, My fiat punto mark 2 Horn isnt working, I've checked the fuses and they are fine, cleaned the contacts of the wires and the horn itself but to no avail. There is one thing im noticing though, When u press the horn, at the fusebox under the bonnet there is a clicking noise coming from one of the big black square things, not sure if they're fuses or somethin but they're 12v n there's a couple red ones there too.
The noise is coming from the 2nd black box down, its to the left of the small fuses on the right hand side if thats any help?
Would that have anything to do with the horn not working??
Any ideas people??

Hiya, I am not sure if your key is a remote central locking key? However, I replaced mine with FIAT in Feb 2008 and it cost me £157.25. Ring your dealer beforehand and they will request a code card, once it arrives you take your car to the dealer and can wait whilst they synchronize the key with your car. Unfortunately, there is no cheaper alternative than using your FIAT dealer. Good Luck!

I Fixed the Horn. It was Blown, Wired it up to the battery and it was dead as a dodo!! Bought a Brand New one for 10euro and replaced it! Working Fine! Thanks anyway!

i was woundering if any one could help me i have a 02 fiat punto sportin its done about 67,000 miles the engine light came on a few days ago and it just stays on and some time flashes its not idle right eather and when i drive its spluttering and i dont ave much power out of it a friend said it might be my ecu but another friend said it my be my erg valve or my air mass sensor or somthing does any one have any ideas plz

the hose symbol is refering to injection , so i suggest you get the ecu scanned to see if theres a fault , it is normal for this light to de displayed on occasion but if its staying on or on and off a lot of times get it checked , most likely its injection ecu

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me.......i know nothing about cars, except how to drive em!!!
The oil and Engine light stay on when my car is not running, even without the key in the ignition. The lights seem to go off when my engine is running???
I have checked my oil which is fine aswell!Thanks anyone.
