To check the temp sender for the gauge you need a meter. when cold you should have around 1750 ohms this drops to around 130 ohm. You are looking to see if the resistance changes as the temp changes. The gauge live feed is shared with the rev counter & fuel gauge. So if there was a fault here the other gauges wouldn't work either.

Have had our H reg 416 gsi with honda engine for a few years now has always run no bother, but lately have had real probs starting, been checked by both mechanic and electric guy who both can find nothing wrong. Still a problem starting though. Engine turns over but won't fire, no chance early morning but by mid day if you try again it will catch not while you are turning key in iginition but just as you let go....curious, Any ideas?

In other words, its missing, check distributor cap- rotor arm-HT leads and possibly the coil..any one of these could be breaking down under load

some people seem to think additives are the be all and end all of problems in an engine,IMO your best bet is to get it stripped down, most petrols would contain enough chemicals to sort out your problems anyway, but as it has not, a stripdown is in order

BUT today it was doing that more frequently and also i was driving and it seemed to switch of the engine, Wouldnt start again as i kept trying whilst rolling downhill buut eventually did with the engine strugling. Any ideas on what it coudld be. Also it seems that there was a clicking noise coming in the bonnet somewhere.
