i just recently bought a rover 416 1995 petrol, i drove it almost 100 miles to get it home and had no problems what so ever, next day it started fine and i drove 5 miles before parking, left for half an hour n when i came back she woudlnt start properly, engine woudl come on but just no revs or idling.coughing and cutting out-no chance of moving it. called the breakdown who discovered my petrol had flooded, released that then checked all my spark plugs etc but still non starting, only responding if revs are up to 4000. he towed me to garage where it has been checked over for all common faults and idled for an hour but wouldnt restart. i am reallly frustrated and uspet as i have only had the car since thu n its bin in garage since fri morning looking fro the cause. mechanic thinks it may be the computer? or electrical fault? would this be likely or would he be barking up the wrong tree all together.? he has dun whatever he does with his computer but it showed up nothing. i really need to get to bottom o this cos i have four year old daughter who travels over 4 miles to nursery and back every day, and a disabled mum. ___________________ www.2wit2woo-owlrescue.co.uk/
Had to call Greenflag out when it died at a set of traffic lights (5.15 pm on a Friday in the centre of Sheffield). The Greenflag driver said the coil was OK but I was getting "a weak spark". He said the engine was running a bit "rough". He suggested it may help if the distributor cap and rotar arm were changed. Did this but no joy. It has been suggested that the ignition module in the distributor may be at fault, as this would cause the engine to run "rough", over rev and make starting difficult. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you
Thank you
Can you throw light on another problem, please, that has nothing to do with starting or running? I had a new radio/CD fitted but cannot get the tuner to work (except for static). Is the problem a disconnected/damaged aerial cable, or that the radio needs a booster, as the fitter says? The car has an external aerial. I feel it's an aerial problem. Thank you
in responce to my previous question, it is now nearly a month later and i have had my car back for a few days, teh ecu did indeed appear to be my problem after nearly four weeks and goodness knows how many ecus my car is now back on the road and running smoothly, and i am over the moon. think th ebiggest prob was coding the fob? i don tkno bur i hav my car :) ___________________ www.2wit2woo-owlrescue.co.uk/ Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free

Some advice would be appreciated for intermittent fault on 214. Its sons car and has to get him to work at 5AM so starting would be usefull. Sometimes it just refuses to start, could be from cold or after a stop or simply cut out at a junction. Then it might restart immediately or, once, not until the next day. There seems no patten. I 've checked all the obvious like fuses and connections all seems fine. The starter motor operates, it is just dead as if no ignition. When it stops it stops cleanly so I suspect it is not fuel. Bizarrely (?) on two occassions when it refused ,pulling off No1 spark lead had it immediatelly fire up on 3 !!! Coincidence? Its a really nice car, only done 50k, so to scrap would be a shame. But it is useless at the moment. ECU unit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Please forgive my question but after buying this Rover i dont know if i have a problem or not, you see the car runs fine, it starts fine and cruises on the motorway fine but it is VERY slow to pull away in, it just really creeps away or seems to, i feel like i need to stand on the gas and press the pedal quite hard to get it to pull away without holding everyone up behind me, does this sound normal? Thankyou.
There is a distinct difference between the 2 cars regarding pulling away, its very very noticable.
