I have just bought the van and am having trouble locating the switch to chill the fridge from 12 volt. There is a recessed switch in the front of the cab and was wondering if that is used to switch to 12 volt? Or am i missing something simple here.

Hi
What year do you have? My G reg has all fridge controls on actual fridge panel above door. Is it Electrolux 3 way?

I have just returned from a 1800 mile trip to France in my Talbot Express (Autotrail Mohawk) and the engine seems to be terminal. No obvious problem with the bottom end and the tappits and pushrods seem ok as do the injectors (it's turbo diesel). Does anyone have a clue? Also the clutch now appears to have disintegrated and all moving parts have jammed! I may well need a replacement power unit and gear box so if anyone out there has one just lying around doing nothing I'm your man! Cheers!

Well how about relays.
My Van which is 1988 Talbot Express 2.5TD has the following relays under the dashboard.
MP Italy Type: 231002 12v 7E 4off
MP Italy Type: 236001 7D 1off
Mafer Torino 7F MF760 1off
Any help in finding equifs would be very thankfull.
I want to replace them before it's to late and I'll be stuck somewhere in the wilds.
Let's hear from all you brain'ies out there, I hav'nt one, carry it under my arms.

Can anyone give me some advise on the waterheater for the Talbot Express G Reg. Do you know where it is situated and any tips on getting it working.

I HAVE TWO SMALL PROBLEMS :
1. MY ELECTROLUX FRIDGE IS SHOWING A 2 VOLT DROP BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE SWITCH AND PROBE, MAYBE A BAD CONNECTION BUT WHERE? SUGGESTIONS REQUIRED
2. THE ENGINE IS MISSING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM IDLE AND OCCASIONALLY BACKFIRES AND PRODUCES A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLACK SMOKE. PLUGS, POINTS OR LEADS? ANY SUGGESTIONS? THE PETROL FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED. BEEN THERE BEFORE!!

My Talbot has a nearside skirt locker just behind the cab, don't know if this is a standard fitting.
Inside this, fixed to the underside of the floor, is a screw type block terminal in the wiring loom from the engine compartment to the Zig unit, again I don't know if this is unique to mine.
There appears to be no reason for this connector apart from creating a fault liability where wires can corrode & drop off. The 12v supply to the fridge almost certainly runs through this.

Can't really help with engine prob, except that as ignition is electronic, it is unlikely to be points! I would change plugs. ( I cured a persistent flat spot by changing carburettor for another S/H unit )

I've just bought a 1984 petrol 2 litre Autohomes "Excalibur", 51k miles, which wont go over 55 on the motorway without running hot. Stick to less than 55 and it seems happy. Is this normal? How do they get up long drags???
Regards

We have just bought a Citroen Talbot Express High-Top, 2500cc Diesel, 1992 K reg. Long wheelbase model of Motorhome but need to re sell as it is Manual and I want to share the driving, and can only drive an Automatic. We will take £3990 for a quick sale. The van is white with a Dolphin on the front, and as the former owner was a Master Carpenter is fitted to a very high standard. It is a two-berth with a shower, fridge, cooker, sink, water heater and toilet compartment! Taxed, and MOT' d till June 2006...this is a GREAT BUY!!!!.e mail [Log in to view email] if interested.

Hi
Anyone know where I can get:
1. 14" Wheel trims for my 1990 Talbot Express camper.
2. Suitable paint to repaint my plastic skirt on this Autohomes Bedouin. Car sprays would cost a fortune.
Thanx
Chris

Colin,

If you tried a washing mashine pump I guess the van was stationary at the time! So no airflow through the radiator until the fan cuts in.... I have never had an overheating problem with my Talbot but years ago a MKI escort I inherited, suffered chronic overheating on motorways, I changed everything + backflushed radiator (very good flow ), nothing helped till in desperation I fitted new radiator, problem cured instantly. I assume some of the cores were scaled up as car had stood for a couple of years.

Hope this helps

Hi Steptoe
And they fitted OK?
They need to be a good deep fitting or the foul the wheel.
Even my auto factors say they will be difficult to get.
Thanx
Chris

Hi Chris,

sorry for delayed reply, been away for a few days, ( must save up for laptop! ) returned with all wheeltrims!

I do see what you mean regarding the deeply dished fitting, I guess I was just lucky with my choice, the design was criss-crossed radial spokes, something like wire wheels, the fixing lugs were 1" long, and they were supplied with a circular springy ring to secure them.

The only time one fell off was when I kerbed the van; if you ever come to Norfolk on holiday the Friday market stall in Dereham Cowper Road car park stocks them.

Best regards, Steptoe

I have a friend who is thinking of buying a motorhome but is not very mechanically minded. Please therefore give me some more technical information on your Talbot and some idea of its mechanical condition. Also would you have a photograph and would you let me know where it could be viewed if he is interested?
