I have just checked with my nephew, who is an MOT tester, and he says that a failure cannot be issued on the basis of faulty coil spring assisters alone. The tester must fail the leaf springs first and then may make an advisory comment upon the coil spring assisters if he so desires.
Theoretically, the coils could be popped out without affecting the MOT. In practice, this is easier said than done.
If the tester has used a bit of discretion, (For example, he thinks the leaf springs are a bit suspect but effectively corrected by the assisters.) he might be doing you a favour as it is easier and cheaper to get a couple of replacement springs from someone like Graystones than to replace the leafs.

Hi B.K. Fuel Tank arrived to-day from Beevers. Not opened it as am querying invoice and "box" which says : Parts 25-26-380 DUCATO. 93/D(?) 0(?)IT.C25 Diesel Tank -
As you know we have a Peugeot Talbot Express 2.5 Diesel.
Thanks for comments re sender . We picked one up Sat.a.m. as one main peugeot dealer said they were no longer available so thought when we located one better get it "just in case". Fuel gauge reading fluctuated - we always have good idea what fuel is in tank- but often rectified itself for no obvious reason( bit disconcerting though) Wondered if might have become disorientated when tank was cleaned! "Mechanic" now on hols, lucky --- until week today!! Will keep you informed. We did try another local chappie but his lift not robust enough to safely raise our 2.3/4 tons; so back to square one.
Regards, Den

Hi Den. Essentially the Citroen C 25, Fiat Ducato and Peugot ( Talbot Express in the UK) are the same vehicle. Made as a joint venture between the three manufacturers. Beevers will no doubt confirm but if the year range is correct there's a good chance it is OK. Kind regards

Hi, I have a Peugeot Talbot Express van which I am trying to replace the gas struts.
The company i'm dealing with needs to know the part number from the strut, but of course mine has worn away! I would be most thankful to anyone who could post any numbers printed on their strut.
Cheers, Seb

Help!!
Hi there, I have been following the forum for a while - until now as a keen observer but now have had a bit of bad luck - so Hi to all!
The clutch has gone on my C25 - whilst the garage was putting my van on the tow truck, the guy slipped the van out of gear and it leapt forward into the back of the tow truck - denting the bumper and grill..... great!!
Anyway, the garage has just called to say that they can do the clutch but they would charge 10 hours labour as it is so hard to get to? I know it is quite inaccessible, but is 10 hours right?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Alex

Hi, autodata says 9hours 10mins for 2.5D ,so i guess 10hours is about right. My friend just had a quote for £1000 to change the clutch in his volvo,so we bought the clutch for £200 and fitted it our selves. well worth doing yourself if you know someone good with spanners.

Im sure everyone knows this but fuel thefts have increased a lot lately and im sure our vans would make easy targets to the scum that take it.i had my cats and exhaust stolen from my 7 series bmw at the weekend, you wouldnt beleive what people will do.i still dont beleive it.anyway its worth watching out for as round here they put holes in the tank or cut the lines so it the cost of fixing them.

Alex, Given that they have already damaged your van and, presumably are replacing the damaged parts, a court would probably award you some additional damages. The law expects you to receive competent service and the accident you describe falls far short of that.
If the front grill and bumper were previously in good order you are entitled to replacement parts of similar quality. If you are settling for repairs to your parts, there should be some allowance made in the charge for doing the clutch. That allowance should not be less than the difference between the value of the now repaired parts and the value of the parts immediately prior to the damage caused by them.

Hi B.K., Thanks for info. Beevers very brief answer to query was "correct tank" - Still have item in our garage as mechanic away until next Mon.! Took today off to celebrate an old friends birthday. Showed him the info you, and others, have freely offered. He was very impressed. As an ex-employee of Rover he almost wishes he had a "problem" so that he could join the discussions!! ( Not quite- but amazed at the time and trouble people have freely given) Thinks you are " a guy who knows what he is talking about" and says the site appears fantastic. Would recommend it- as I certainly will.
Not able to get flow/return pipes from Peugeot dealer - no longer stocked ( very expensive even if we could) but imagine we could possibly obtain equivalent elsewhere? Will keep you informed.
Cheers, Den

Hi B.K. On opening box tank appears to have been dropped on bottom right hand corner - lowest corner double flange fixing is bent. Have notified Beevers. But we need tank for Mon. next when Maestro returns. I feel I can "hammer dinge out" but the oracle says" paid for new with 12 month guarantee and if tampered with will negate guarantee- have taken photographs!! Any suggestions?
Have advised all friends to keep away as we must be jinxed( and like a "virus" could be catching)
Did I tell you, Maestro prior to hols. informed my wife that he was very disappointed in WYN Rep. whom he had known for years!!! I leave you to imagine her reply !
Still smiling - just- Den

Hi Den, I have never dealt with Beevers personally but a number of people on this site have recommended them in the past so if it were me I would contact them first thing Fri AM, explain the problem and if you can send the photos by e.mail. If they have another one in stock it should be no problem arranging delivery for pre 10 am on Monday from a pick up Friday PM. The sticking point as always is cost and who pays, but if the box you received was undamaged ( I presume youve taken pictures of the box as well as the tank); then its probably fair to say that the carrier is not at fault. In that case the goods supplied by the company are not fit for purpose and My understanding would be that they would be required to provide a replacement to your door at no additional cost and they would be required to arrange and pay for the return of the original to themselves. If the item was damaged in transit then presumably the box is damaged also, the answer here depends on whether you signed to say the goods were in an acceptable condition. If you did then you are out on a limb a bit. I personally wouldnt touch the tank till youve spoken to beevers. If they have another new one its probably better to get that from them and send the damaged one back, even if you have to stand some of the transport charges. Beevers will almost certainly use the same carrier(s) for all their work and if the carrier is at fault they will have far more clout with them than you will and so may be able to get them to deliver for free or reduced amount.
Kind regards
B.K.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get replacement front brake hoses for a 1987 Talbot express? And would I be correct in thinking that there are 4 seperate hoses for the front of the van? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi B.K. Beevers Brilliant - replacement arrived next day. Stewart organised everything - that is what I call " customer service" the old fashioned way.
Will get back to you -- moment of truth will be Mon. 30th June -- if our mechanic has had a good holiday he may be in a fit state to put our 'van on the road!! At present "she who must be obeyed" is threatening to send me off on my own to try it out -- I shall have to cook!!!.
Many thanks for support and advice - will keep you informed.

On the bonnet of my 1991 ducato there is a grill below the windscreen, when you lift the bonnet there is a trough underneath which collects water that drips thru the grid, in the r/hand corner is a small outlet with nothing fitted to it so any water would go onto the engine, I have fitted a temporary funnel & hose to drop the water below the engine.
Can anyone with similar type motor tell me what is supposed to be fitted to the hole?
