Hope this helps Kind regards B.K.
Can you please tell me if you can supply me with a new or nearly new cab carpet for my 1994 L reg Talbot Express Synphony,i have posted a want it add on here if you want to see the sad reason for me wanting a replacement. Please do get in touch if you can help me with this problem. Thanks Brian.
Its interesting you say that as the problem does get worse the longer you use it. I'll take a look. Once I have recovered from the nightmare experience of driving it on our weekend away on Devon. Apologies to anyone who was behind us on the A361 on Friday evening! I replaced the HT leads last week, and when we started off it seemed to be behaving, was just about to take a sigh of relief when it started again, and got worse. Anyway next job the air box, I'm thinking of possibly taking the carb apart and cleaning it as well. Thanks for everyones advice. It may yet have to go in for attention by a garage. Robbie.
Obviously they weren't able to help but I called the AA who took me to a parts place who said it would be here next day 10.30, I was given the option to be towed home to Worc's but thought a better bet would be to get the cable in the morning & get it fitted. So we stayed the night in Quickfits carpark! It was on a busy road so we felt fairly safe , Next morning I fetched the cable but couldn't get any local garage to fit it so the quickfit boys volunteered & we discovered the cable was too short altho it was the correct one. apparently there is a short threaded extender piece fitted to some models & it was this that broke. So I called the AA again & had a job to get them to return even tho I had saved them the huge expense of towing me home. They said they aren't allowed to fit parts supplied by other than the AA even tho the AA man took me to get it. They eventually fetched a manager to the phone & I pointed this out but they wanted to send some independent breakdown company who no doubt would have charged me a fortune whilst they drove round the country trying to get me another cable & clocking up the bill After some arguing they agreed to send another AA man who simply did a temporary repair of the old cable to get me home, I wish the bloke the night before had been more on the ball. Nevertheless we are grateful to the Quickfit crew who were so helpful. On my return I made a new extender on my lathe & fitted the new cable. So beware & check the cable as it may be on its last legs!
Funny thing is, that my wife took the van out today, reasonable journey about fifty miles, and she says it behaved. No kangarooing on hills. So its possibly sorted itself out? Time will tell of course. Rob.
I bought my Fiat Ducato 1984 motorhome in Jan this year from a dealer as a trade in to clear. It had a very bad misfire/backfire & driving back home was not very pleasant, all 70 miles, hill climbs too were bad & that was on a motorway with plenty of time to build up momentum to get her up & over. Anyway once home I set about trying to find the fault & turned my attention to the fuel side of the engine because on the ignition side I used a strobe light plugged into each sparkplug lead then ran the engine to check & all seemed fine. As the exhaust pipe came out on the right handside I decided to test drive & as I was driving I looked down at the exhaust using the side mirror as I floored the throttle I noticed black smoke at the point where it started to misfire, choke was fully in. Back home again I checked & checked all around the carburettor the engine sounded fine on tickover, then I noticed the engine breather hose coming out the left handside of engine it was flat & felt mushy so I took it off the carburettor & ran the engine & the misfire was gone. It started to misfire again two weeks ago so went to halfords & bought a new oil filler cap at £2 fitted it & once again misfire gone. she is now a dream to drive I had her up to 70mph on the by-pass & the engine runs so sweat, the acceleration is really good & thats with three adults plus water etc. It has on the button starting, before it took a few cranks to fire up. So don't give up, on your camper. Also the peugeot 505, 504 use these engines. Good luck.
I don't want to give up on the van, its just confidence has been severely dented by last weekends trip! I found the air intake flap, and have stopped it from fully closing. I also sprayed in carb cleaner via a hole in the air intake tubing whilst running and although it may be my imagination it seems more sprightly. But problem is still there. Does anyone know if it should have these holes in it? It looks to me like something is missing?
any ideas thanks matt Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free
First gear is the hardest on mine also, I think Delfin can improve it with a modification
Came across this article whilst researching, may be of interest: http://ezinearticles.com/?Does-Your-Car-......ckfire?&id=2855 "Does your vehicle engine run ok? Or does it cut-out on you sometimes when your are going to visit your in-laws? Does it *spit* and *sputter* and *backfire*, then start running ok, again? Symptoms of this nature can be several things. You could have a sparkplug wire shorting out. You could have an electrical wire shorting out. You may have some water in the fuel tank. Lets take the most common of these three mentioned. Over the years you cannot keep they fuel tank full at all times. With a fuel tank half full, the upper part can cause condensation. This condensation will slowly build up and run down into the bottom of the tank. When you start to pass another vehicle you call upon the fuel pump to give me more gasoline. The fuel pump starts working overtime and picks up more fuel, then the water goes into the line along with the gasoline. The fuel filter catches this water and since water is heavier than gasoline, it drops to the bottom of the filter. After awhile though, you come up behind me, and Im not driving quite as fast as you would like to go, so you floorboard it and go around me. What happens when you floorboard it? Right, you are asking for more fuel. With the filter partially full of condensation, water, some of it gets picked up into the fuel line and goes to the carburetor or injector. Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug, Pow! Purr, purr, purr. See what happens? You can solve this problem, most of the time, by changing the fuel filter two or three times a year. Now, if you have just filled up at the pump, and your car starts acting this way, you may have to take the fuel tank off and clean it out. Or, pay someone else to do it!" I havent had me tank full (to the top) for a good while, so I think I'll heed this advice and see how we get on. I'll keep you updated ! Stan.
I am going to install sound proofing and either kinspan or fibreglass for insulation followed by polythene sheeting fixed with double sided tape. Now I know why it was not very warm last November in the Daebyshire hills during a snow storm. Regards Fred

Just bought a Talbot Express Hillsider Conversion and would like to find a Manual for the electrical distribution system. The unit is a Plug in Systems Power Management System. Their website is defuct. Details of other manuals would also be much apreciated. Cheers
Hi Had my 1991 Talbot Express 1300D Highwayman fail its MOT on a fractured spring. Purchased new 2 x 5 leaf springs, but need info on fitting them. I remember a few years ago I downloaded someone's detailed account on the best way to go about it. Of course, now that I need it, I can't find it. Can anyone help me out with this? Many thanks.
I now do the same with my car and motorhome.
Today, bought new plugs and fitted them. Does any one know what difference the wrong plugs would have made as the ones fitted were Champion RN9YC, not N281YC. (Now have the correct NGK equivalent fitted, BP6ES). Not got time for a test drive yet. Possibly later. Cheers Rob.
The R on the plug code stands for resistive i.e. radio supression for interference so should not of effected the running, the rest of the code equates to the heat rating of the plug and the dimensions of the plug. A hotter or colder plug could foul up and give you a missfire as could a plug wich did not reach into the combustion chamber correctly and give a slow or partial burn. So you are correcting things one at a time slow job I know but you can now cross them off the list of potential causes. Keep it going the satisfaction of getting the problem solved is a great feeling. As an aside the NGK is one of the best plug manufacturers out there. Hpoe this helps cj
