hi been reading some of the comments on the exhaust stud problem .
try motor shops or factors for fire stop they use it on furnace pipe joints
you can use it as a manifold gasket even if the manifold is warped
just apply in the hole & along top & bottom of joints to the head
it can also be used anywhere on you exhaust system..

hi white been using fire stop for around 10 years as needed it lasted around 3 to 5 years on an old peugot 505 with a exhaust manifold that had badly pitted. i had used a grinder & made a mess of two ports the fire stop was around 4 mm thick to cope with the gap it sealed & was never a problem with mots or changing exhaust downpipe solid as a rock as they say used it to seal water joints like thermostat gaskets if you get some its the tube paste not the tin powder that you mix i would use it without doubt

Dear Talbot Express Motorhome Forum,

Due to a senior moment I have broken the opaque toilet window of my 1990 Talbot based Elddis Autoquest 270 motor home.
It measures 16 inches (40CM) wide and drops down 24 inches (62CM) from its metal hinge plate. It is marked Roxite 04 D398 and I have tried using this as a keyword on the Google seach engine. It has pulled up a few close fits (but not close enough) from Ebay and I have searched through other caravan breakers lists without success. I will start telephoning breakers yards Monday. Does anyone know of an Elddis Autoquest 270 autoquest being broken for parts?

Regards, Ted.

Hi, recently bought a 1984 Talbot Excalibur with a 2 litre Petrol Engine, and I have a problem that I have failed to solve. That problem is engine to body vibrations and they definitley aint the 'Good Vibrations!'
When the engine is running, everything shakes/vibrates, even when the van isn't moving. Rev the engine and it's worse. Changed the engine, gearbox and differential mountings - no difference. I've spent ages lying on my back under it trying to figure this one out but I can't see any part of the engine, gearbox, or exhaust, touching the bodywork. Has anyone else come across this proble, and, if you did, what was the cause? Or are they all like this??

Welsh Wanderer:

Don't take this wrong but is it actually firing on all 4 cylinders? Vibrations of the magnitude you describe suggest it isn't.
No they don't vibrate excessively, and of course any minor shaking at tickover instantly disappears as the revs come up.
Regards, Steve

Hi Steve. It is firing correctly on all 4. In fact the engine sounds and feels OK, it's just that it seems that there is a connection somewhere where the engine or gearbox is touching the bodywork, but I just can't find it. I thought that changing the mountings would cure it, but it hasn't. They mountings that came off were pretty worn out, so they needed changing anyway, but the vibration continues. It's as if the engine was just resting on the chassis!

Hi Welsh Wanderer

Can the exhaust move freely? As I have heard of someone who bolted their exhaust up minus the rubber hangers ending up with the same problem you describe.

Hope this helps

Hi regarding engine to body vibrations, I had similar problems which turned out to be the clutch cable touching the heater air intake box under the bonnet, in fact anything touching this box seems to make quite a noise inside the van on my Rambler. I cured it by using cable ties to secure everything to the large air filter housing on top of the engine.

Hi all,

This is such a superb and valuable site for all talbot owners, is there anyway we could have sub threads off the main one. There is so much info but it is difficult to keep the threads going??

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Doc for the suggestion re the exhaust. I've spent ages just lying on my back underneath, staring at everything, and one of the first things I did was to check that the exhaust wasn't touching anywhere and in doing so found that the rubbers were partly broken, so I've replaced most of them. But you have me thinking that maybe they're the wrong rubbers and they might be too tight or something - have to check and find out what sort of rubbers are supposed to be on it.

Thanks John G for your suggestion - it's something that I had honestly not thought of! Checked almost everything but didn't consider the cabling. Sometime tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll have to check the cable - and the exhaust as suggested by DocSavage.

Hi welsh wanderer.
Regarding exhaust rubbers. the exhaust should have 4 off partco number UNR 4 . Also make sure that somebody hasnt previously replaced the long studs and springs arrangement where the exhaust downpipe mets the manifold, with nuts and solid washers. this joint should be able to move slightly. There are a couple of places where the exhaust can run very close to the body and can touch and cause vibration and noise if it is slightly out of position. Incidentally I have also added a hanging exhaust bracket right at the end of the tailpipe where it hangs below the edge of the body just to help take the weight and leverage effect of the tailpipe sticking out at right angles. hello

what a wonderful mine of info! We're motorhome virgins, having just picked up a 1993 Talbot Express Autosleeper Symphony. As the guy we bought it from was selling it because his wife died and he'd never used it (it was her's) we have NO info on anything! The Zig unit is a mc-3000 (or that's what is written on it) and we are trying to find out whether this is a dual system charging set up? Is there an easy / obvious way to find out? Also, is there anywhere we can get hold of a Symphony manual? I've started to read through all the pages in this thread and am up to page 11, taking notes as I go, but 180 pages will take sometime. We're really excited about our new baby and looking forward to many happy times in her.

Hi white28, I bought 2 captain seats out of a ford galaxy and adapted and fitted them. I've got the two seats I took out, which are in good condition & have head restraints, the passanger one is modified to swivel. you can have them for a bottle of wine if you wish.
