Hi Steve & Jaybird,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the '3-resistor pack' the speed control for the fan, rather than a thermal cut-out? Yours, Steve, looks like an electronic version of the same thing; the 184degC being the 'rating' - i.e. its maximum working temperature. I cant see the need for a thermal cut-out other than for protection, and the fuse does that.
Comments invited!
Best regards
D

Ref Fan Control: (1991 shown, Russek Page 160, Grid 38, Item no 859 ( and the switch immediately above it...item no. 183). Both the switch and the resistor pack are on the Earth Side of the circuit. The 12v positive coming from the ignition switch via fuse 9.

Resistor Pack has 4 connectors, 3 out and 1 in ( or the other way round depening on how you view it seeing as it is on the Earth side :)

The 3 resistors (in the green block) are added in series depending on which of the 3 outputs(/Inputs) you have selected via the fan. But ALL flow though the thermal fuse connected to the single input (/output). You can check the item on the RS components website (search for 184c) it is virtually identical.

The rotary fan switch has 5 connectors: 1 is not connected (the OFF position). The one on the far side is connected directly to Earch by passing the resistor block for Full(!) power. So.. the thermal fuse (small thin silver cylindrical thingy in the previous photos) is in play only when the resistor pack is being utilised .....

Best wishes, Steve

Hi All

I am looking for advice please. I want to fit a Fiamma type backbox on the rear panel under the rear window of my Autosleepers Talisman but I cannot find any information for locating the fixing points, i.e. any support struts between the outside fibreglass body and inner wall. I do not have a towbar but do have the stainless steel tube rear bumper as fitted at manufacture. Autosleepers were their usual helpful selves!!!!
Any advice welcome please.

Regards

G

Hi George.

Perhaps the attached photo will help as it shows the position of my Bike rack mounts and you can draw lines from the window and ridges in the bodyshell to work out exactly where they are. You'll need to take out the cooker and maybe part of the sink to mount it, and you'll see the support bars from the inside when you do that.

Its a real shame Autosleeper are no longer helpful. When I got the van many years ago they were great, especially their parts dept, but I believe they were taken over a year or two back and perhaps that is why their attitide to the older vans has changed. Its very short sighted of them in my opinion as we may be looking to buy a new van in the future and they'll lose a lot of potential customers.

Best wishes,
Steve

Thank you for the pic, it did not occur to me to dismantle equipment inside to look for the support bars, isn't old age wonderful!!

As for Autosleepers, I think you are correct, which makes sites like this invaluable.

That'll be my winter project then, thanks again.

Regards
George

Hi,

I found this information in an archived post from this forum, the post was made by a user callled keef. Does anyone know if the XUD engine will bolt into the talbot express?

According to my "peter russek" manual, the express gearbox accepts 5 various engines [u25,u25turbo,xud,xud turbo,and...?!].The xud is widely known to be "bombproof" and regularly outlives the car its fitted to-just have a look on ebay to see how many are out there! I have started taking my engine/g.box out to asses compatabilililility with an xud. Waddaya think?

could be that you may have air in the heater matrix as its high in the system and air may get trapped here there should be a bleed screw at the left of the air intake for the heater .
i undone mine squeezed the rad top hose in with my finger over the end of the bleed tube released my finger and then put in over the end again repeated it a few times not allowing any air into the system through the bleed screw tube on the last squeeze keep the hose squeezed and replace the screw top up cooling system if need be this worked for me .
one other point is the fan working?. also is the engine reaching correct temp ie fan for the rad coming in at around 93 it takes a while to come in from cold but then should ( when ticking over come in and out around every few minutes) then you know the water for the heater matrix is hot if all this is ok and you have a thermostate in thats working correctly in the engine head then the matrix for the heater may possibley be blocked
hope this is of help mick

Our 1992 2.5 diesel has a door in the middle & as with yours the shower is off to the right as you go in the door the kitchen area is also to the right of the door as you come in & opposite the shower/toilet.
Facing the door is a long sofa & just inside the door, to the right again, is a single seat.
The table is a fold up type which stores inside the wardrobe which adjoins the shower room.......is this anything like yours? If so...ours is an Autotrail Mohawk

Had the same problem with my L reg Auto Sleeper Exec which is a 2.7 l diesel. Also could nor distribute warm to one place as it still seemed to come out to the screen and was told that the seals on the distribution box had shrunk over time and were not sealing properly. Also that a diesel runs cooler than a petrol engine. Partially solved the problem for the winter motoring by having curtains behind the driver and passenger to give it a smaller area to heat + sealing the vents in the door down the bottom. Closing the vent control also helped.
Better but not as good as a car.

Hi white,

When I first got my van (winter 07) I had the same problem. I back flushed the heater matrix and did notice an increase in heat in the cab (this was when the van was on the drive). When I took it out for a drive it was just the same as before-freezing!! After much investigating I found the cause to be tin rot under the windscreen (large holes) which were letting in cold air from outside when travelling. I had to take the dash out and get these holes repaired (along with replace scuttle panel and seal the windscreen properly) and I now find that the van is much warmer when travelling. I also replaced the rubber seals around the front doors and sealed the vents in the bottom of the door cards.

All the best...
