hi all concerning driving with the gas turned on common sense is the main answer. i drive a 44 tonn truck for a living the night heaters in these cabs is capable of heating a big area like the rear area of a motor home & would only cost about 30 pence over a 10 hour period most are diesel but can be petrol which would be more expensive. driving a truck we are not allowed gas cookers in the cab because of the gas cylinder but can carry them in the side lockers until we have to use them the heaters in the rear of these old motorhomes were designed for stationary use as the have a vent underneath which could easliy blow out the flames inside the heater disconnect your gas bottles for saftey

mgplumb, a pair of seat belts are on EBay at this time, search Talbot Express seat belt; however the receiving part is not shown on the photo worth a call though. The other parts you require will depend the make and model and year of the conversion, again EBay may be helpful. The Self build motor caravan club website has a number of suppliers on the links page search SBMCC. Regards, Alan

Hi Richard, my vents are in the side, totally sealed fom the cab & additionally, unlike your burner - all the appliances have flame failure devices, so if they do blow out - on my fridge, cooker rings and heater, the gas is then turned off. QED no risk, but as I said in my reply the other day a very emotive subject with lots of preconceived and polemic reactions.

Hi all,
I'm sure someone out there will be able to help!
I have an F reg Talbot express Autosleeper with the double doors at the back and would like to get a bike rack for it. I have done a bt of research and have been told that the D200 rack should fit but when you check in the catalogue it no longer says anything about fitting the Talbot Express so I wonder if the fittings have changed slightly.

I'm not bothered about buying a new one (2nd hand would be prefered)so if anyone can tell me what I need and a possible source for buying one (ebay being one I would try) then I would be very grateful!

Thank you
Amanda

we use a halfords rack its for 3 cycles we have a highwayman on a talbot base vehicle
not the same as yours but thay have straps to make it fit and only takes 10 mins max to fit then we just put a lock around it all if parked up in a public area
the only down point is that we cant use the rear doors whilst its attached .
but its only to and from where we are going then it packs flat and stores away under the camper.ps you can add extra straps to make it suite different situations.
hope this helps

i didnt reply before as i see you are decieded in your view ,as to welders bieng killed with compressed air and tyres i believe it proves the point i was making .
remove the risk as much as possilble
risk assment / method statement / safe working practice common sense
remove the risk /reduce the risk to yourself and others morally and legaly its down to the person incharge and thats the driver to ensure things are safe you know insurance companies like a get out and not adering to the manufacturers instructions is a good point to start i dont think they say turn off the gas because they want people to freeze!.
i did say rupture of the cylinder or the valve being damaged we all know its the 1000's of times its ok but just a few small minor points add up then there you are.
or on the other hand who cares i won't do it you make the choice for your self, see if you can get the vid from boc of a 19 kg lpg gas cylinder in a van going up !! or if you have a strong stomache they have the pictures where a van / contractors curtain sider has some lpg cylinders that catch fire and vent !! yes lpg cylinders have a safety vave disc in them these lifted and added to the fire in the end cylinders ended up falling from the sky into a school play ground over a mile away i sew the pictures at a safety course and we had to look away all normal guys .
enjoy your camper

Mike,
i am not denigrating anything you say, but even carrying LPG in cylinders is potentially dangerous, only the strength of the cylinder and the regulator connection, Petrol carried in vehicles Plastic fuel tanks (I thought the change from metal to plastic would have been resisted by Insurance companies but no.) is dangerous. Travelling on the Inside lane of a motorway, at 55mph boxed in front and back by 44 tonne foreign trucks only inches away from your rear to my mind is infinately MORE dangerous. We live in a dangerous world.
my wife thinks i am a 'grumpy old man' but i am beginning to rebel against 'petty' restrictions to our liberty while far more 'blatant' dangerous (but bloody obvious) practises are allowed to continue.
sorry, rant over. Ray

I don't know if this is a common occurence or not but was rather surprised to read an article today !5th Oct. in an Aberdeen newspaper, the website link as follows:
http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk

It was about a family who were booked into caravan site for four days holiday but when they arrived at the site in what was a new and expensive Hobby motorhome were turned away, the reason given was
" their vehicle was banned because a large number were owned by travelling people." and also
"They say they were told privacy was also an issue because the Hobby’s door is on the opposite side from other popular models.
The reason I post the link to this article here also states the following:
when the motorhome owner phoned "Perthshire Caravans, which owns the Arbroath site, to complain and was told the park did not allow Quest or Talbot vans on site either.
I wondered if this sort of info might be useul to anyone thinking of touring in that area but maybe it's a common problem I just don't know being new to all this!

Re: the refusal parking for the Hobby. The caravan park had accepted the booking. Unless they notified their restrictions prior to accepting the booking they are in breach of contract under the sale of goods and services acts. The family are entitled to compensation.

Hello Evangel
I completely agree with you, I hope the family in question will not let the campsite get away with this.
As I said this information was only from a newspaper article which took me quite by surprise when I saw the photo of the motorhome & the fact that it was new & had cost over £58,000, but when the article mentioned that the campsite owners told the newspaper when they called that they don't allow Quest or Talbot Express motorhomes either, I thought it worth mentioning on this forum in case other Talbot Express owners might be interested to know that some sites may have strange rulings.

We've recently bought our first motorhome, a 1992 Talbot Express based which we're really happy with ( but ancient in comparison to the rather 'posh' & brand new Hobby that was turned away), so far we haven't stayed on any sites & hope the policy of that Arbroath site isn't a common one .

We go away to campsites every other week and have never had any trouble with any of them. Our MH is a Talbot also 1990. Infact we have just arrived home from Folkstone CCC watching the Seafrance ferry on strike. To be honest if these people are so far up them selves would you want to spend your money with them.

Hi White28 there is a way to seal these at no cost just time
Firstly do you know where around the door the draft is coming from?
If you can feel where the draft is coming from this is the commonly used method used in car body shops,
frist pull the rubber seal with both hands of the ledge it sits on only pull of enough for you to work on , get a piece of wood to use as a drift and with a hammer tap the drift on the ledge outwords long the length of the gap where you think the draft is coming from only tap the ledge out about 1mm , push the rubber seal back on to the ledge and tap it home with the hammer , doing this pushs the rubber seal closer to the door when it,s shut and curing the draft you might have to try this 2 or 3 times but it will cure the problem at no cost i would be intrested no how you get on. regards briroe

Hi white28 I htink we might be getting a bit confused here . we are talking about the pasenger and drivers door on a tal bot express cab, If yes there should be a rubber seal around the door frame and not around the door itself.
If there is no rubber seal around the door frames you will have to buy them a earlier posting by wynsurfer said there is some on e bay failing that go on e bay and type in the search bar talbot express and only talbot express or you will get the wrong page when you get there their are. 10 pages of talbot express spares you might find some on there lets me know the out come , hope this helps briroe
