Yes, this is Rudd, in Holland who David was talking about in a message a little earlier. I don't think that you will get tyres any cheaper than his, or at least, I haven't seen any any cheaper!

Can anyone help with a jelly mould problem?
I've bought three new jelly moulds for my 1986 Silver Stream but they don't fit. I need the ones that fit on with a nut, my husband tried to remove the nut to fit the jelly moulds but they're solid and just won't budge from the fitting that attaches to the rod. Are they supposed to be removable or are they part of the same piece? Does anyone know what I need so that I can use the jelly moulds I've bought?
Thank you.

Hi Diane,I have had exactly the same problem with jelly moulds for my silverstream pram,David sent me three but they didn't fit, another "prammie"is sending me some off a super burley pram,I just hope they fit.I was able to remove my one remaining jelly mould with a spanner, the nut was attached to it,the other three nuts are minus the jelly mould, when I tried to remove one of them, the nut snapped off, I think I am going nuts myself trying to resolve this problem! If I do manage to sort it out, I'll let you know. What I'd like to know is how did they come off in the first place????

What a wonderful site! I am a lifelong prammie, just didn't know there was a name for us! My four children enjoyed the freedom and security of coach built prams, SX and Marmet and my rock musician husband overcame his early reserve and became a committed pram pusher come rain or shine, in park and school playground!
I am now starting to renovate a black SX 40" coach built for my soon to be born great nephew and would love to identify the pram. A friend bought it in 1989 in great condition and it was used for three children, and borrowed for several more! It has spent the past few years in a dirty old barn and is very musty and has a torn hood lining, both hood and apron are badly faded and missing fastenings. The tyres are skinny and worn. There is moderate rust on all chrome parts but the body is in superb condition, the handle is discoloured but intact.
The lining is white with tiny grey leaf/pale blue flower motif, there is a white trim with a thin chrome strip.
Can anyone tell me what this pram was called and the year of first sale?
My instinct is to order new hood and apron, bed unit and wheels from SX but this is expensive. Am I being silly and is there a better way?
When I had my prams in the 80's and early 90's there was a marvelous shop on Mitcham Common full of filthy old prams and parts and the wizard there could fix anything! Sadly he is long gone, is there anyone else in the London area practising this dying craft?

I know what you mean about them coming off in the first place! It doesn't make sense does it? I hope I can find some, maybe one day someone will have some for sale on eBay. I'd love to know how you get on with yours when they arrive.

Hi suzie,
Unfortunately Paul Cottam, of Mitcham, I believe, no longer restores prams. He was very, very ill some time ago. Too ill to carry on the business. Shame, he was very good. You could contact Alisons Prams for a quotation on full restoration. But it is not cheap! No change from £1500 I am afraid. Put a pic on here so it can be identified.

Hello, thank you for your message, yes it was Paul Cottam and he will be sorely missed for his skills , knowledge and value for money!
I have spotted a pram identical to mine on Ebay, item no 250277722756, Vintage SX Coach built pram, in Sutton, it is navy and mine is black, otherwise the same, it is only described as being from 1984, I am not at home today so can't take pic but this may help identify it.
Thank you so much for any help you can give.

I have been restoring my Silver Stream? but one of the top bits of the lining of the pram bed has a tear which I have tried to repair but I can still see it. the colour is navy blue and it is from the 60's do you have any bits from the pram that you are breaking to fit this if it is navy.I can never remember what they are called but it is the padded bits that go over the edges of the pram bed. I have managed to recover the hood and have bought another apron so that I can take the one that I had apart and still have one to copy.

Does your pram have the lining like the one (upside down!) on eBay? This lining first appears in the 1980 catalogue and was used for a couple of years before they changed it. This model was previously called the Wilson Silver Shadow, it had the huge wheels and first appeared in the 1966 catalogue. In 1980 the wheels shrunk, the Wilson badge became Silver Cross and the brake lever was moved lower down the chassis. It sounds like yours is an early 1980's model. Mine has a sticker under the bed with the date of manufacture so yours may have too.
I hope this helps.

Hi just wondering if you have ever taken a whole pram to this chap in holland? Does he accept such renovations as I have an old marmet that I was going to have a go at myself but having read the entire thread from beginning to end maybe it would be better to let the pro's do it. It's a very old wooden bodied Marmet, maybe from 1930's, with everything to do on it. What would be your advice? Any help would be great as I am brand new to this prammy lark and dont want to make costly mistakes if I can help it. tks in advance

Just wondering if any of you prammy experts recognise this pram? Its a very large boat shaped wooden bodied Marmet but instead of having leather straps it is suspended from the chassis by two coiled springs which attach to the rods which go straight through the pram. It looks like its a bit art deco as the pram hood handles are that style. In every other way it is like the carriage prams with the same boat shaped body and huge wheels. I have looked to see if this is an adaption but it looks totally original. It is not like the detachable chassis prams, much, much older. I am a new prammy and dont have the experience to date this pram I would love more info if anyone knows more. tks lynnie

Hi Dave is it? Having read through this thread I wondered if you could answer my query plse? I am new to prm restoration, just attempting my first, an old wooden bodied Marmet from the thirties I think but could be wrong. It has a plywood veneer which is lifting at the end where the pram handle is. I thought to remove this damaged bit and either glue or nail with pins into the wooden body and then sand and respray. Have you ever attempted a repair like this and could you advise me if I'm doing the right thing. The paint is flaking and crazed in places and I was going to rub down with fine wet and dry and then respray. Would the crazing come through do you know? Tks v much in advance lynnie
