Hi jackie, is the cradle the chassis? Like a large c laid on its back? I think the handle may be a later one as it is in ex cond no rust etc so maybe its been replaced. The chassis has a brake which you lift and then slot into a small metal plate with a notch in it, the brake lever has a round knob. The hood levers are straight and have a sort of bulls eye design, it reminds me of art deco stuff I have seen which is why I thought it might be from the thirties. It has a funny drop down section like a pram bag with a zip at the top, this folds into the pram is is secured by a chrome catch, its made of gaberdine type material. i wish I could get a picture onthe site to show you tks for your interest linnie

almost sure you have a 60s pram linnie...the extension is at the end of the pram[with the catch] for sitting an older child at this end, and there little legs would go in this section, and the baby at the other end,,if you look on ebay at the millson portman that is for sale...it shows the foot extension regards jackie

Well I remember the prams from the sixties, I had my first Marmet from the early 1970's and this one is much older, the ends are raised as in your forum picture, and the materials are much older than my Marmet which I had for my firstborn. I dont think its a footwell as its not very big and has a top zip, it reminds me of a pram bag, as its square when its pulled right out, while the drop down foot wells seem bigger and lower, but I bow to your greater knowledge and it might be. Although thinking about it the baby would have to be siting on the top of the pram to get its legs into this. Ill have a look at the Millson tks for the llnk and your thoughts.

The pram is in my place in Yorkshire and I'm in London just now but will be back at the end of the week, Iv'e looked at the Millson and it is similar but square not a triangle shape, although my pram is very similar although the pram upholstery is much older. It has cream pleating about four inches wide like the older car seats had on both ends. The Marmet pic u sent is different in that the body shape of my pram is a very deep boat with really big wheels and hood, much bigger than the silverstream I had for my first grandchild. Best thing would be to get some photo's but I will have to have a lesson on how to do it first! thanks for playing Sherlock!

Hello Twinnylinnie The springs you describe that attach the chassis to the body were used with the tubular chassis Marmets in the 50's and early 60's. Is it like the picture I've posted? This is the Marmet Lomond and I think the foot extension was available as an extra.

Hi Diane No, the lining in that pic is quite Laura Ashley isn't it? Mine is white with tiny grey leaf/pale blue daisy motif, I think later 80's, it was bought in '89 by a friend for his son, he paid £500 and it was immaculate, he moved to the country and it became a real outdoor pram, lots of sun and rain and lived in an outhouse, did 3 babies and then was lent out a few times, I have dug it out of an old coachhouse where it has lain for at least 5 years and is so musty! I fear the smell is permanent and may require a new bed! I am a real re-cycler but we have a baby coming for this pram in 4/5 weeks and I think I may have to bite the bullet and go for the bed/ hood and apron from Silver Cross! Ouch! What do you think?

Hi yes indeed!! The pram wheels seem a bit smaller but this is how the pram is attached to the body. I cant see the hood levers but are they a straight bar with bullseye detail in the middle. Does it have a well with a stopper stamped marmet in the middle? Do you have to lift the brake handle and then drop it into a metal plate to engage the brakes? Isnt this fun, Ive never dreamt there were so many people which such a wide knowledge base, I never thought doing up this old pram would be so exciting. Tks for everything.

suze..there are a few tricks on how to get rid of the pong...i have had some really smelly prams in the past..bicarb, fresh lemons etc..the pram will eventually take on your own home smell[meant in the nicest way] as we all have different odours on our houses..mine all live in the front living room now and a couple upstairs..they have all lost that awful odour lol

Well would you believe it! Practically neighbours, my sister lives in Hull and I often visit. If you are on your way to Brid for a paddle drop in for a cuppa, you can then see the monster for yourself. I was thinking of shipping it to that chap (Rudy?), in Holland to do up but it seems a shame not to have a go, although it needs lots of work. I think you are right about 1950's 60's as its like the picture posted here for me. £100 but is that fitted or just the rubber parts supplied? I have learnt so much just trawling through this link, it has taken me 6 hours to read it all, and I havent done a stroke all day.

Just a thought, what about one of those neutradol jars, they seem effective and as they are really inexpensive worth a try. Good luck
