Hi again
Its a strange and addictive pastime! So much fascinating stuff to learn! What decoration is on the side of your pram - coachlines in a crescent shape or something fancier? And yes, this pram has all the things you describe, including the hood arms. I live in Leeds and Jackie and I are friends via the pram world!

Thanks dreamteam as I think you may have identified my pram, it does have the little drop down bit which iI'm told is a foot well. It looks older than the sixties, as I can remember the prams then as I pushed my brother around in a pedigree, but maybe they made this model a bit earlier? It needs lots of work but is it worth doing? I dont want to spend a lot as its just for grandchildren but it would be nice to think that it had a value when its finished that would reflect the work needed to restore it. I need to replace some of the ply at the footwell end as its rather badly damaged, would I glue the replacement ply with a contact adhesive or panel pin it? Have you any ideas where I could source really thin ply board which would take the shape of the 'boat'? Tks again lini

Definitely worth doing. Definitely hard work. Prob cost a fortune! I'm just dashing off to my daughters but when I come back I'll post a pic of the old wreck of this pram that I'm restoring in honour of the one my Mum had for me - yep thats me in the pic. Summer 1956.

Oh good so it looks like its a Marmet Lomond, nice name, I once lived nearby Loch lomond so I should remember it. The sides are coachlined in a double fine line around a raised profile of a crescent, which is coming off in places. I was hoping to sand it all down and glue back the profile bit and then respray it in black, as I would prefer that to the blue, the hood is a really heavy material, like gaberdine and has four spokes, it fastens with a chromed metal cross type fitting. There is an old Marmet badge at the back which looks like its lost it chrome as its brass. The footwell has a detachable board and the other two ends are fixed and covered in a sort of oilcloth with tiny stars printed on it, are yours the same? Fancy you knowing the other lady, its a small world in the prammy circle isnt it, do you get together at all?

Thanks Jackie, that would be lovely, have you a pram collection for me to admire? I have loved prams for ages but this is my first foray into restoration. I have a few older dolls prams which needs loads doing to them but have been a bit lazy in getting them done. I bought this Marmet 14 years ago for my first grandchild from Baitsons, which I expect you know. I ended up buying a silverstream for him and the Marmet has been gathering dust ever since. Ive just rescued it from the mice in the shed and Im hoping to do it during the winter. Would it be possible to get wheels from that chap in Holland? I know you can do short trips from Hull to over there, but I dont know where he is , do you know him? Also do you know a good rechroming place in Hull?

I have often thought it would be nice to have a pram push at the Walkington Hay ride, it would be a nice day out. When I get back I will phone you and perhaps we can arrange a 'viewing' tks for all your msg br linnie

Hi that's a lovely picture! I am a twin and the pram my mother had for us in 1951 was enormous. She had a big sun canopy for it and she said it looked like a ship in full sail. She took the hood off for her third girl in 22 months and we all were pushed around until we were ousted and had to walk. although I remember sitting in a twin tansad pushchair with my sister if Dad was available to push us whilst Mum pushed my younger sister in the big pram. I have a picture somewhere which I might be able to learn how to post on this site. You could try and identify it for me!!

I certainly have, there are two ways to do it. Either have a comnplete new side made out of boat quality ply, or chip off as muxh of the damaged ply as possible and use wood filler. You obviously have to spend some time rubbing the filler down. But with a pram of this age it is well worth doing. After all it is a tangible piece of nursery history,

Thanks for that. I will try the chandlers for the ply as its so thin I dont think ordinary diy will stock it. I think I will cut out the piece and then join in and sand down and then fill in as the damaged bit is quite large, probably from a bag or swinging feet. Do you advise glue or panel pins for the attachment of the ply board? I have heard this pram may be a Marmet Lomond, and is proably about mid to late fifties or early sixties. It seemed older to me but what do I know, I bow to the experts. tks for your msg

Jackie
I would imagine the jelly moulds would be the same as a Super Burley as they are the older ones from the original company. The newer ones are a different fitting. If you have some going spare I'd be interested in buying them. Thanks.

Hi Suze
I think you might have the same lining mine has, the identical pram actually. Mine was filthy dirty and faded so I stripped it down and cleaned and polished and was surprised at the result of just cleaning. I used liquid shoe polish on the faded hood with great results, no running when wet and no stiffening of the fabric, it worked a treat. The handle I cleaned with a 'Magic Sponge' which was a tip I picked up on here, it worked like magic too, it just lifted off the ingrained dirt! I touched up the paintwork with paint from Silver Cross which actually I think is a rip-off at £10 for a tiny pot, you could get enamel paint since the pram is black. The bed is easy to remove once the hood is removed and you may find that sticker underneath it. The lining on mine looked awful and I thought it was beyond hope but it was just ingrained dirt and it looked like new after cleaning. I use cream cleanser on tyres and shoe whitener when they need it to keep them looking good. Go for it and try cleaning it first, it's much cheaper and you'll feel great once you've done it! Good luck!

Hi again Twinnylinnie: firstly, DO go see Jackie's prams, they are gorgeous. And so is her husband, but thats another whole story. There is another possible model, the Gazelle, but the bars sit under the body rather than going through the body on the illustration I have. It does show the foot extension though. The old wreck I have has the star printed oilcloth on the base
