Pinksapphire83 I used Asda Instant Shoe Shine, you know the stuff in the bottles with a sponge on the top? I diluted it 50/50 with water and brushed it on. I had a piece of spare fabric to test it on first so I was quite confident it would work okay. It was mentioned on here a while back that there's something I think called shoe magic, maybe a Clarks product which I think comes in more colours, I'm sure someone will add a message about it to let you know. Someone also mentioned that they used a product from Halfords for the canvas on a soft-top car, why didn't I think of that?! It was more expensive but probably perfect for the job!

Hi again, thanks for posting the Lomond, if you think thats a wreck wait till you see mine, seriously though its a nice looking pram and I think worth the effort to do it up, it will never be the star of the show but it will be my first attempt so will always be special to me. Thanks for your help in identifying the pram, I'm so pleased to know what it is. br lini x

Hi Diane Great tips and I really want to try but the lining of the hood has a huge jagged tear, the result of a toddler ripping at it while out for his garden naps! No chance of repairing that and I suspect that re-lining would be more costly than the new hood! How would you suggest dealing with the smell of the bed? I have had a split vanilla pod in the cavity for a few days now (saw that on this site!) but it still smells like an old damp cellar, not a newborn environment at all! Do you know someone who re-lines hoods and stitches aprons? One of the corners has come apart. I must sound inept but I actually have a busy shop in Guildford called Neal's Yard Remedies which is my area of expertise and right now this pram obsession is taking my attention off my game! I was born in Leeds and pushed in a coachbuilt, I think it was a Royale from the pics, my parents were not well off right after the war but a decent pram was considered essential for me and my brother, was that a northern thing do you think? We also had good tweed coats from the local Burton's factory where relatives worked, they were copied from whatever the royal tots were wearing! How times have changed!

Hi,
Just to let you know when I've had to repair split hood linings I use the repair kits from water beds. It's definitely waterproof is flexible and the glue is good to work with and doesn't leave coloured marks on the vinyl.
There is a lady called Pat Holgate (I think) who does good hoods, but you can always send them to Rudy. Has anyone thought of tent dye (from camping shops) to do hoods and aprons.

Regarding musty prams - someone told me to sprinkle baby talc inside and brush it into the lining, it not only smells nice but also removes ingrained dirt and grease. A bit like dry shampoo on your hair I suppose. I have tried it and it does work.

Can any of you "experts" help please - what is the difference between Silver Cross and Wilson prams? I thought they were by the same maker but not sure, does anyone know?

Hi Lucy, I've tried this and it does make them smell gorgeous, better on cream linings than navy or black. But if a pram has been stored in very damp or frankly wet conditions, the pram bed padding beneath the lining is likely to be mouldy which causes the smell. I wouldn't use the pram in this condition for a baby: better to replace the upholstery.

Hi I can see how the talc would work like a dry shampoo but from experience,( I got a proper ticking off), baby talc is now considered taboo as baby can breathe it in and apparently it is not recommended anymore for health and saftey reasons. Fine if you are not putting a new born in it but dust will be released I suspect with all the lovely bouncing that goes on when out for a walk. Both of mine were lathered in the stuff and both lived to tell the tale,.. personally I dont know where this modern thinking comes from, but I pass on the knowledge and you can have a laugh or chuck the tin in the bin accordingly. I swear by neutradol for pongs and someone elsewher onthis thread blames the horsehair which will need to be ripped out if its damp etc.

Yes you're right about about the talc: I should have said to brush it well into the corners then vaccuum it out after a while. Current advice isn't to avoid talc altogether but to use very carefully and not to use on the skin in the first 6 weeks.

Hello all fellow prammies On the subject of 'talc' I am now in my comfort zone! The issue is with anything containing talcum with is considered potentially carcinogenic. The only safe body powder for any human being is cornstarch based and at Neals Yard Remedies we do a safe baby powder. It is useful for damp little creases and amazing at the beach for getting sand off damp children before dressing! Absolutely agree, unecessary for newborns, as are most 'products'! Thank you for all your tips, I have just had the bed liner out and found quite bad rust inside the body! As this is not exquisite vintage I am pausing to re-consider. I may be better returning this 'borrowed' pram and investing in a better example. Ebay here I come!

everything in moderation i say!!! i use bicarb of soda, to rid of pongs and fresh lemons, they are not there for the baby to inhale or eat!! but purely as an alternative...the old ways are usually the best i say regards jackie

I hope you wouldn`t put a child in the foot extension. That is so that an older child can lie down in the pram!
