Hi,
You will find it hard to find a chromer who will do pram wheels, theres a boy in Leeds, firm named Midas Touch, done a lovely job on my 2x 18 " for a Wilson. Its an expensive job £40 each then hubs £10 each, but it will be more the bigger they are. You will need to take all the spokes out and really have new ones put back in, approx £15 a wheel or you could buy a set of 2nd hand wheels of ebay for approx £100 , classybabycarriages or pizces24caz Same person) always has good wheels for sale If you need the Balmoral/silverstream size, this would be a much cheaper option.
Hope this Helps
K

I bought two black brake pads for a Wilson/Silver Cross pram from a guy on Ebay. There are both white and black sets advertised just now, and I think they are cheaper than I paid. Link is: http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.d......brake+pads+pram

Hi
You need to find an electro plater or chrome plater in your yellow pages or go on yel com. You can also by the scootering mag where loads advertise. It is not a cheap thing to do, you will also need to take out spokes and have them put back in and the wheels, and they will need relined, its best to use new spokes, you will also need new tyers. You could shop around for prices but ave for 24 inch is £60, 18inch £40 + the Hubs at £10 each. You will need to pay carriage as well if not local.
If you cant be bothered to do all the running around. Alisons Baby Carriages will get the lot done.
For those of you that are interested, Alison is having a pram sale in July some time, you can call her for dates on o1406 426007.

Hi
I recently bought a London baby coach pram . It was in the Jack Hampshire museum and has the name and number stamped underneath the carriage. Its a beautiful pram, on a C Chassis, but it is supposed to be navy and in some lights , one side in particular looks dark green.Everything else - hood, apron , chassis, is dark navy.I was told that this sometimes happens with paint on old prams, but I have never seen it before. Apart from the colour, the actual quality of the paintwork is fine. Can anyone tell me what I can do - I can't really afford to go to a professional pram restorer - as it is a wooden bodied pram - can I get it done by a car resprayer? Has anyone any idea of approx costs including getting the coach lines redone. I would be grateful for any ideas - is there any way I could attempt it myself or would this be a recipe for disaster?!
Thanks

Hi,

I have just become a new member to this wonderful web site and I cannot believe there are so many of you restoring old prams - it's brilliant.
This message of yours that I am replying to is back from 2006 so I hope you are still restoring prams.
I was wondering what I need to do to clean up the chrome chassis of my Silver Cross Carlton pram. Just bought it and it needs a bit of work so thought I would start with what I can do at home. It is pitted. I have read wire wool - is this correct? I don't want to scratch the chassis and am worried this is what will happen. I have cleaned the wheels up with a brillo pad and they are really shiny.
Any help would be fab.
Thank you for reading.

Hi Barb,

Just read that restore old prams as a hobby. I have bought a Silver Cross Carlton that is in ok condition. I have found sites for hoods and aprons but I seem to be struggling with what to do with the chassis. Please can you help?
Wire wool and then polishing - brillo pads - worried about scratching the chassis. It is pitted but no rust as of yet. Also - what would you polish the paintwork with? There are a few scratches that I need to touch up. The lining of the hood has been replaced and doesn't match the rest of the pram. The hood and apron are in fab condition so I don't really want the expense of buying new ones - do you know how to replace the lining or know of someone who would do this for me?
Sorry for so many questions - excited to get started on my new project.

Thank you
Georgina

Hi Barb
I wonder if you have any suggestions for a bald hood corner? I've bought a beautiful black Silver Cross Tenby which has cleaned up really well but one hood corner is bald. I wondered about the hood corner protectors for the upper corner but I'm not sure it will work as they are shaped and not flat. Have you any ideas? The pram is about 25-years-old and so is the stylon fabric.

Hello diane,
Re your hood problem, I think hood corners are the best way forward, recovering the whole hood is quite expensive, if you ring Alisons baby carriages on 01406426007, they will give you any advice you need without any obligation, or you could email on [Log in to view email] I hope this helps. p.s. they do renovations and supply most spare parts you or anyone else might need. good luck, Graham
