Hi everyone, have just bought a beautiful silver cross pram it's the Evesham model. I think 70s-80s. It could do with a bit of restoration, especially new tyres. Does anyone know where i get some new tyres made and fitted in the manchester area? I've spoken to the guy in newcastle but i would have to then fit them myself, is this possible? Thanks.

Hi Jan Ref Canopy Frames.
Theres one on ebay at mo its £20 1st bid and its only a fan frame.
You will not get them cheap I,m afraid. I have to buy old tatty ones to recover all off ebay, i pay on av £50 + PP for 21", 22" frame, a 19/20 a bit cheaper. I have to compeat with many others and its luck if you get one.
A lot of these peeps get them at boot fairs, but there seems to be more coach prams and bits for them in certain areas of U.K and where i live is not one of the places. Well perhaps if i got up sparrows fart on a Sunday and trawled the booties then i might find something.
Xx

My Osnath pram is Black with a white line along the body, and has a cream interior and cream handle, it also has a canopy if i can locate it, we are decorating a bedroom at the moment and have decided to clear out the loft and as soon as I can get to it I will put it together and send you a photo of it. It should be in reasonable condition for the chrome wheels have been covered in vaseline, and wrapped in paper and the body has been carefully wrapped as well. It was my pride and joy, last used for my youngest son born in 1973. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi I am new to pram restoration too. I have found this website which is an inspiration. http://www.coachbuiltprams.org/index.htm
I contacted the lady that owns it and she has been sooo helpful. (Thank you Sandra). She has recovered hoods and made bags tooo. I am about to try my first hood and apron. The site includes some lovely photos of coachbuilt prams. a great way to while away an hour or two!

hi there..just use a tyre lever to take them off, and put them in a bucket of mild bleached warm water, not hot, leave them for a day..and i used a gentle nail brush on mine and they came up quite white.. had to get my hubby to do mine and put them back on..it is quite easy as the water makes them more pliable thanks jackie

hi,my hubby was messing with an old pram i have and he used a fine sand paper on one of the tyres, and it came up quite nice, you could also use shoe whitener stuff, the type you use on canvas shoes.
let me know how it goes,
dawn.

hi dawn, have tried very fine sandpaper but it scratching the chrome, and as for the tip about using canvas shoe whitener to whiten wheels i have been doing that for many years as i have had the same pram from new since 85 when it was bought and had 6 of my own children in it and other family members have used it aswell and now its used to show my reborn doll and wheels still look white, its a good affective way that doesnt cost the earth to keep tyres looking clean and white, thanks ayway, diane

I find that Cif cream cleanser works very well on whitening tyres, along with a green kitchen scourer.

Hi everyone, I'm glad I've found your site! me and my girlfriend are expecting at the end of this year and as a gift for her i've bought a vintage silver cross pram that I intend to fix up a little!

First of all i'm having trouble identifying the model, can anyone identify it from this? -

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s304/Chr......rcrosspram1.jpg

Also, i'm looking into respraying the metal base and reupholstering the apron, hood and interior. I've read every post in this discussion and have found this that I am interested in -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Silver-cross-co......1QQcmdZViewItem

Is re hooding the apron something that can be done by myself or would it make it cheaper to supply the material to someone who can? also does anyone know anyone in the cheshire area who can do this?

I'm at a loss as I would like to do as much of it as possible myself however I am on a very tight budget with this but I also don't want it to look like a bodge job!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for that Susan. I believe you sell the hooding material, Do you still supply this? would you say it is a job that can be done with little experience?
