Hi everyone. I have the PowerMax 155x which started making strange high pitched noises last night but it eventually stopped. Shortly after, I had a bath and everything seemed to be okay. However, this morning it locked out and stayed locked out despite numerous attempts to start the burner by setting the switch to off, wait 10 seconds, and switching it back to timed. I have opened the top panel to have a look inside and I observe the following when I try to restart the burner: 1. The motor on the right hand side spins okay and appears to be working smoothly. 2. I can hear the normal clicking sound when I do the reset. But no green light (burner) - just orange (lock out). This is the first time this has happened. I have neglected to service the boiler as it is in a fairly new property. I guess the boiler is about 5 years old now, from the time I moved in. Can someone here advise? Sean perhaps? Do I need to call someone out? If so, any suggestions and any idea on costs? I'm in central Edinburgh.

I have a powermax155 boiler which is about 3 years old. We've had a couple of lock out problems in the past by they were fixed by Heateam under warranty. I had the boiler serviced last week and all appeared fine until the plumber turned the boiler back on. The water works fine but the heating doesn't. After playing about with it for a while he said that it was the control panel which lost all of it's settings when it was powered down for the service and which would cost me about £30. Since then it has been ordered for £94, although a week later it is still not here. I'm just worried that I'm either going to have to pay for something that the engineer broke or I will have this problem every time I get the boiler serviced. Any ideas?

The room stat didn't click but the engineer rewired "something" to a permanent live so that the heating is on permanently and controlled by the thermostat

SeanYou seem to have solved alot of problems for people who have the powermax boilers, hopefuly you can point me in the right direction. I have just moved into an apartment that has been vacant for sometime and is fitted with the powermax 185. I've tried starting up the boiler with little success. I have the users manual and have followed the instructions. When switching from the 'O' (off position) to the 'Cont' position the fan starts up (as mentioned in the manual) but the green neon remains off, suggesting the burner is not firing up. I have followed the instructions to switch off wait about 15-20 secs and try again but to no avail. I've checked the Gas meter and it is moving so I believe gas is being supplied..............any suggestions?

To anyone having problems with your Powermax boiler I would advise contacting the Heateam on 08706096096. It cost me 260 pounds to get my boiler fixed and they changed loads of stuff. It also now carries a 12 month warranty for any other parts that might fail. Peace of mind.

hi how old is the boiler.in the bottom panel you will find the burner and the electode, pull off the lead and see if you got any spark. make sure you pull the lead off without turning it. hold it close to the burner to see if it sparks, it should be a constant strong blue spark for about 3 seconds let me know sean

Powermax 185 Problem Fixed?I posted some time ago about the problems I'd been having with the system locking out, but it only seemed to be a problem during the colder weather. I've had the boiler serviced by my usual engineer, and once again mentioned the problem, once again said he did not know what the problem was, I suggested the things that Sean mentioned. After the service he said the only thing he could find wrong was the gap in the ignition plug (not sure if this is the right term), which he corrected. We have since had several days of cold weather so far all is well with no lock outs!!! Thanks to Sean for the pointers. Mark
