Hi i'm new to this forum and after some help for my friend
she has a powermax 140 not sure if sealed or vented when she turns on it goes to lockout and trips the circuit breaker sometimes it will stay on for a while and then do the same thing go to lock out and trip the circuit breaker. she got an engineer around to take a look and was told it was the gas valve yet i can't see how lack of gas would make the circuit breaker trip. any help would be much appriciated thanx

Cheers sean, checked the pumps they seem fine. when the boiler does decide to work the pressure starts at around 1 bar and gradually rises to 2 bar at this point the boiler locks out and trips the circuit breaker so still none the wiser any ideas????

I have just moved in the flat and have no manuals for Powermax 185. I like to know how to fill the system as when heating starts, lot of noise in the radiators. One gauge shows '0' and other shows 1.6 bars. Thanks Jinja

Hi Jinja, The manual for the Range Powermax 185 can be found at: http://www.partsarena.com/baxi/System/index.htm You will probably have to right click at the top of the screen and install active-X then go through the menu system as follows, selecting > Range Powermex, then > Boiler, > Powermax, > Powermax 185 Thermal Store, > Installation Instructions, > Powermax 185.
This manual is for a vented system, it sounds from the description you gave that your boiler is on a pressurised central heating system and may be a later version of the model which came about when Range was taken over by Potterton and then Baxi. Your best bet would be to phone the BAXI POTTERTON GROUP as I did Tel. 08706 096096, they are very helpful.
I hope this is of help, Callum.

Hi Callum,
Thanks very much for the info. I have dealt with normal boilers and central heating systems. This type is my first time. I will follow it up. Yes it is very useful.

hi, I have a powermax 185 and am experiencing loud noises coming from the boiler. I do not have the user manual and was wondering if someone could send me a copy of the manual and recommend someone to call to service the boiler. I live in Ramsgate in East Kent
thanks

I would not use the term unique boiler ,maybe infamous ! BAXI do offer a fixed price service on these appliances, prices seem to vary from region to region.

Hi I have come up against a powermax 185 with hammering when hot water is being used. Is this a problem you have come across as a common fault, for instance does the small expansion vessel act as an anti hammer device and is liable to break down, or do the thermostatic blending valves have any tendancy to break down. Thanks in advance to any helpers.

Help please!
I have a Powermax 155 boiler which is now on lock out. No hot water or heating. Have reset it 5 times and still no luck. The fan fires up and there are a few clicking sounds like the igntion is about to start but no luck.
Sean i have located both the red overheat buttons you mentioned and tried pushing them in but they dont budge at all!
Any other ideas?
Thanks
