Sean - I have called a couple of local firms today but they only appear to want to sell me a new boiler. I cannot see the point of that when it is working, just not starting up without some 'encouragement'.

I have also spoken to a couple of my neighbours and one had the same issue with the non-starting in the morning. His was down to the PCB (as you suggested). I presume that I could buy this myself and install it but would you know the part reference or point me in the right direction to find it ? Many thanks, Lee.

I have the same problem with my boiler - did you get a response to your message?

Hi yes sean replied to say it was the clock and it was! We by passed the one on the boiler (as this was in an en suite so inconvenient to get to when we needed to alter it) and replaced the downstairs thermostat with a programmable one which does the job perfectly.

Thanks for your reply. You seem to have had the same problem as me in that the boiler is on (HW and CH lights) but does not ignite (no green burner light) and I have no heating or hot water. I have had BG out today and they have condemned the boiler and said I need a new one as the heat exchanger has gone and they cannot get the part. Great new year this is turning out to be! Still no hot water or heating. I just wanted to check that BG were not spinning me a line..

Hi Dewar,

Sorry for delay - I also had BG involved when my 185 kept cutting out around this time last year. They also tried to condemn my boiler (and did condemn my neighbours around that time) and told me parts not available, it was unsafe etc etc, but failed to spot (despite about 12 visits) that my boiler had never been correctly installed - I was deeply unimpressed with their level of expertise, am no longer with them and would not use them in the future. If you call Pottertons (HO in Warwick) suspect they will be able to help you track down parts.

Also saw that Sean had sent you a message on this site - do contact him he is very knowledgeable about these boilers and was a great help to me.

Let me know if you need to know anything more. Hope you have made progress though.

Hi Jcm,
Thanks for your response. I got a local firm out last Friday as I did not trust BG opinion. The local guy got the boiler working again just by relighting it and thought cause was due to the fact that we had been on holiday for two weeks during really cold weather of late and I had left the boiler on timed only for 2 hours/day and they think that this caused condensation to build up in the burner. Fingers crossed, it has been working fine ever since.
I know Sean is very helpful as I have asked him for his advice before and he has always responded. I only wish he lived in my area!
Thanks for your response - it's good to know that others have the same experience of BG. I have now cancelled my Homecare agreement with them and will not use them ever again!

can anyone send me a powermax 185 document, i would be most grateful as it may stop my wife from nagging at me about the lack of hot water when running a bath.
Could this be blender valve problem or a faulty stat, and where can i find spares for the powermax 185.Many thanks Rob.

Hi Sean,

I have a PowerMax 140 that has recently stopped igniting.

The orange mains light is lit. I can hear the automatic sparking and the fan is turning (I've taken the top off to check).

The pressure gauge is showing 0. It's a daft question but how do I make sure the system is full of water? I live in a flat so have no access to the loft to blow down the vent as suggested before?

Cheers
Gary

Hi,

I've seen the post you made on Preloved about your Powemax bolier. Did you get it fixed. I have the same problem with the red lights being dimmed and CH and DHW not working. How was it fixed and what was the problem?

Cheers
