Sean,

I have started a new thread, but in case you see this first.

I have to powerflush a 155 ov at the weekend and can't remember how to isolate the store so I don't have to flush the entire contents.

Cheers
Rico

Hi Sean,

What a complete nightmare we are having (nearly 4 weeks later and 6 engineer visits from Npower! I nearly died when I saw him but they sent the same guy this morning who came 1st (the one you said needed to stay away!) ....Anyway as at this morning we had heating and some hot water - seemed to be able to get a bath in the evening without adding cold and 30 seconds of hot water at any time in the day. He arrived at 9:30am - after doing pressure things again as it was up to 3 he turned the boiler off, moved the blender valve as apparently pointing in the wrong place! turned the boiler back on for it to go on lock out! He said that was all he done - everything he could see was working right but it wont light up now! He then took the screws off the top to look inside at the burner gaskit and apparently one was stuck so he had to drill it off! They now have to call out Baxi as apparently need a certain type of tool to put it all back together! I cannot believe it, we had heat at least this morning and now nothing again in the snow!! Baxi are coming Monday and I am hoping they actually know what they are doing - the engineer has written on the sheet - Damaged burner gaskit and missing burner fastener! I am now as you can imagine at my wits end! He was saying that his boss just want to get the job done and they they haven't made any money out of this job! (only due to their incompetence!) I am just thankful I took the option of a fixed price repair and not pay as you go! Do you have any comments about what it could be that was worng as the engineer in his words said I am not an incompetent engineer and I have to hold my hands up and say I just dont know!? How infuriating! Tina

Hi Reeve,

Best advice get Baxi out first all the others have not got a clue. Paid £300.00 and they will come out for a 12 month period, fixed my problem at 2nd attempt. Engineer knew what was wrong straight away.

Been looking at this site for ages and apart from Baxi, Sean is the man in the know, take his advice as well.

Hi,
I got powermax 185.
Having problem with hot water in the shower. some times comes ok but other times we wait and wait and no luck, It used to come immediately and also in the tapes hot water for few seconds and then just about warm. central heating is fine. Don't know whats wrong. Tried to take cover from British gas and swalec - refused due to make of boiler. Have not got a clue whats is the matter with this make and when ring the engineers they seems not happy to deal with powermax.
Help will be appreciated.

Farooq

Hi all, came across this forum while trying to identify why my powermax only provides heating at full blast for all of 5 minutes and then conks out. Hot water provision is fine but obviously incurring huge bills as have had to get a few electric heaters in. If anyone can advise I would be very grateful. To date BG have done a service but didnt manage to get heating going on demand, also had a local maintenance guy in and he was a joke. please help as the gf is doing her nut. thanks

Hi there I have a powermax 155x installed yesterday it went in to lockout I turned off the boiler at the mains and restarted but it locked out after a short start sequence. After some digging I found the overheat thermostat had popped so i reset it and started it up and all was working fine CH and HW but after 5 minutes it started to make a bubbling noise i noticed if i turned a HW tap on it would stop and then once the tap was off it would build up again. In the end the overheat thermostat popped again does anyone have any idea what the root cause of this fault could be cheers.

Hi! i have just found this site after 'googling' to see if there is any advice out there for Powermax sufferers. we inherited our 155CP when we moved just over two years ago. the heating side is fine, the water to shower and bath not brilliant and the taps are scalding - but our biggest problem is the noise that wakes us each morning. it starts with a two minute burst around 4 am and then kicks in for at least twenty minutes as the boiler fires up. it sounds like a very loud whistling kettle, a constant noise that can be heard outside. we have had it serviced three times by BG and mentionned the problem, only to be told " oh it shouldn't do that" - but they had no idea what was causing it. the previous owners fitted a thermostat in the hall, so the boiler is set to 24hrs and controlled by the thermo downstairs. has anyone else experienced this, and if so was it sorted?

Have just found this forum due to my powermax 155x failing over the weekend and having read most of the post it seems that if you need some answers then this is the one to post on. Not mentioning any names.

Unit is open vented and is just over 5 years old.

Boiler ignites in hot water continuous mode and supplies hot water fine, but fails to ignite when in timed mode when both water and CH are in demand.
The lock out light does not come on at any point.

I have changed thermostat for old one to check, no joy, and the fact that the water demand doesn't make it ignite leads me to believe that the problem lies with something in the boiler itself, maybe the PCB?

I would be greatful for anybody's thoughts and/or confirm my suspicions.

many thanks

Hi,

I need to descale my 185. I have bought some X400, X100 and X200 but need to drain down the boiler. Is it as simple as turning off the inlet valve and running the hot down?. Do I add the X400 to the loft tank?.

Any info would be grateful.

Thanks

Hi,

just tried bypassing programmer clock having read through discussion further but although hot water now works in timed mode I still can't get central heating to work. Maybe my fault lies with both programmer and ignition controller. Any thoughts Sean? I have managed to source ignition controller from makers for £75 inc vat but am rreluctant to part with cash until i'm a bit more certain.

thanks

Janet,

Any chance you could give me instructions for bypassing the in built programmer please.

I have been looking at the circuit diagrams for a couple of days now and my brain is fried.

thank you
