Q) bypassing the built-in-clock wont cause any further probs with the boiler will it ? would any1 be able to recommend a reliable digital thermostat (manufacturer &/or model) would like a good balance been price and reliabilty ; ) thanks R : )
I called British Gas thinking they could fix the problem with my powermax 155X boiler. It got locked out and would not restart as the pressure gauge would not increase from zero. The engineer did a brilliant pitch on telling me my boiler is nearly 15 years old and needs replacing and that parts are discontinued. He fitted a couple of parts but could not get the flow switch as I have a leak which is making the pressure gauge fall to zero. They wont service my boiler now but have charged me for the labour and parts they have fitted. The boiler is running but it will go again as I have a leak. Any ideas where I can get a reasonable flow switch from? and any ideas who can help to fit this for me on the cheap. Already paid nearly £200 with British Gas, dont want another large bill. Really appreciated.
I hope you guys can help. I have had various problems with my Powermax 140 boiler losing pressure. I had the pressure valve changed and it was OK for about 3 months. The pressure dropped to zero a few days ago. I upped the pressure but it got to about 3 bar. I then used the pressure valve to release a bit of pressure and it is now at 2 bar but there is water flowing out of the overflow pipe outside of the house. I have no leaks anywhere and cannot understand why it keeps dropping pressure and have no idea how to stop the overflow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the price, that seems like a good price. Thanks
regards
I checked the expansion vessel and the pressure on that is 2.1 bar. There are no leaks there, no water coming out of the nozzle when I checked pressure. Any other suggestions?
I have a problem with a Powermax 140. Basically the clock/programmer has just started to "buzz" when CH is selected. We can still get hot water by switching from timed to hot water only. I have ordered a new unit after reading previous advice you have kindly given out. My querie is though, that previous to the buzzing, we have experienced a problem, were by we can only get constant hot water, whilst the heating/burner is running too. This was fine during the winter months, but its not ideal as we approach summer, having to have the heating on full everytime we need hot water. Could this have been a sign that the programmer was on its way out....? We also had a leaking flow switch replaced six months ago, by a company who didn't really fill me with a lot of confidence. Thank you Pud (Lincolnshire)

Thank you for the quick reply. The arrow on the switch is pointing down, and the wire is coming out of the top!! We've had the muppet back a couple of times since, and he's failed to spot this... Would you recommend getting someone in to swap this around, or do you think it's something I could do myself without having to worry about having to set anything up afterwards.....? Thank you once again Sean.

You're a superstar!! I can't believe that before I read your advice on here for the first time this morning, I had about come to terms with laying out good money on a new boiler. I've just fitted the new clock, and now have piping hot radiators almost instantly! Can't believe the difference this has made! Thank You for all your help.
I've got a problem with a sealed system Powermax 155. I moved into the flat a few months ago (the building, and presumably boiler, is 10 years old). Since I've moved in the pressure gauge was always at 0, but this never stopped the system from working. Around two weeks ago, the boiler locked out. Naturally, it seemed as though this was a problem with the pressure. I filled up the boiler with water as per instructions (i.e. open the black valve at the top) and then gently fill up it up until the gauge hits 1. There was a whistling initially when it was switched back on, but that finished after around 4 minutes and for two weeks it worked without a hitch until yesterday. The boiler again locked out and the pressure dropped from 1.5 to 0 over 24 hours, at the same time there was a definite rubbery smell in the cupboard where the boiler is situated. I've since refilled the boiler, however this time the gauge went up to 2 almost immediately (around 5 seconds after turning the tap on). The boiler still refuses to ignite. There aren't any apparent signs of a leak (i.e. I can't see any water). Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?
