Cheers, Mike the Boilerman
I have got a British Gas engineer visiting tomorrow morning to look at it, and have been sold there homecare package! Although I feel sure when they realise it is a powermax they won't want to cover it. Here is praying it isn't terminal!!
Thanks for your help. I found out the room stat was not working, wire had come off.
British Gas engineer cancelled for tomorrow, £100 safely back with me!
I have a Powermax 185 boiler, which is serviced annually. However, lately I have been having many problems with the boiler igniting. The fan runs, and it attempts to ignite, but does not do so straight away. Sometimes, it does not ignite altogether, therefore no hot water or heating!! Could someone please help. Any suggestions welcome. Many thanks
Thanks
Telephone: 0844 871 1545. Hope this helps
I have had a heateam engineer come out but was unconviced he knew what the problem was, firstly he pointed to a green ignition box inside the boiler a (pektron timed ignition sequence unit), and said he believed it to have a hairline crack said he will order parts until then he has issued an unsafe warning and told me not to use it. How ddoes that expalin the whistling? Many thanks
The majority of posts suggest that its the gas/air mixture valve thats at fault. As for hairline crack!!!! How could he possibly know that?. I've also had the ignition problem and it was down to the main circuit board CAP had blown (a very common problem).
I had posted a message earlier. BG came out to look at problem and changed the PCB board. Have water and heating finally! but now we are experiencing a loud bang every morning, waking up the whole house. I believe from reading the other posts that it may be kettling. Could someone please confirm if it is and if so, can it be fixed and how? Son Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free
Keep the circuit board and look on the net for a company that repairs them (cant remember who they are now!). It will save you loads of money and you have a spare!!! Take the time to read the entire thread if you can. It will give you an idea of what to look for if something else goes wrong. Dont quote me on this but banging can be caused by faulty or dirty electrode.

hi i need advice for my Powermax 140 boiler. i am with BG homecare and i have had 12 tech visits and still my boiler is still not working properly. it was whistling / locking out / and now back feeding throught the header tank in the loft and out through the open vent over flow. i have had new turbolators fitted, gas valve, room thermostat, fan, pcb board, and CH pump fitted. The whistling has stopped, lock outs have stopped (well i hope!). when the boiler reaches working temp, i hear gurgling noises through the pipes and radiators and thats when i notice the water is back feeding through the header tank in the loft, after it has stopped i notice there is alot of air in the system and i have to bleed some of my radiators. the last visit i had a manager out with a tech, and they are playing the joker card saying there is some sludge in the system and this could be causing the back feed and of course the power flush is not covered under the contract-they want £600 to flush. im not convinced and think there is something else causing this. Any advice would be most helpful, i hate to comment on this but i think the BG techs are not clued up on this type of boiler! any advice sean or mike?........anyone please helo...ta.
Reading the other threads- does it seem most likely that the Bleeder valve is at fault? We do not have a water softener- is it likely to be choked up with calcium? Hope that someone can help please? Thanks in advance. We are in the west London area.
