I had the exact same problem with the hot water trickle. The blending value is the culprit and boy was it blocked with limescale. I'm supprised it worked at all. The so called anti-limescale device just below it dont work otherwise the blending value wouldnt get so furred up. Once I replaced that the hot water just chucked out full blast. Almost like it was brand new. Having said that, I replaced it just over 18 months ago and guess what, it looks like the value is furring up again....GGrrrr

I have a powermax 185 , its 3 years old.We had the display panel replaced 1 year ago when it just went off. now out of warranty it has gone off again. got hot water but no heating . Is this some thing i can do or replace my self ? When i press all the buttons togather the display pops on for a second then go's back off
Have been reading about the not so great powermax boiler and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Have drained the system down and moved a radiator and the system fired up ok. the next day drained the system and moved another radiator but when i tried to fire the boiler it tries to start and wont fire up. i did try to drain the system the second timewhen the boiler and radiators were hot and was told by a plumber that its a mistake and i should not do it when the system is hot. any ideas on what to do now??? I have a powermax 155 and live in Norwich
THANK SEAN
Also as my boiler is about 7 years old and has only been serviced once ( by some cowboys) i have some leaks on my pumps and the mixertap. plus the very slow run of hot water on the bath. If you turn it on fully it becomes cold. Any ideas what is the cause and is this a job i could do myself or should a pro be called in?? If so i live in the Norwich area so anyone you could recomend?? Thanks again for your help
Have you looked at or replaced the blending valve?. This causes slow (hot) water feed in the majority of cases.

Sean, is there a way to stop the amount of limescale building on the blending valve. I live in a hard water area but I'm replacing/de-scaling the valve's every 18 months or so. Can you recommend anything to least slow the limescale process down. Many thanks
I have recently moved into a flat with a Powermax 155 installed. During the summer I have had no problems with the central heating, however now approaching the colder weather I have tried putting the heating on. If trying to switch the heating on directly I get the red lockout light appear after several attempts to "fire up". However if I switch on the hot water 1st and leave it for about 15mins before putting the heating on, it appears to work fine. The boiler sounds like it tries to fire up, but fails, and then after a few attemps locks out. I also have to open a valve at the rear of the boiler on a regular basis to "top up the system". The pressure dial on the from t of the boiler also is showing we have very little pressure (hardly registering on the display) I live in a hard water area, and would appreciate any help on how to resolve this quickly and cheaply before we enter into the really cold weather. I have read the forum and it appears that this is a very common fault, however is there a cheap answer that works long term? Thanks in advance.
I have located the AAV, but do you want me to open the top valve (with a red cap) or the bigger valve. This seems very stiff to move so I will wait to hear which one to turn before I try a little harder. Thanks
The valve at the very top is already open. It does not seem to make any difference when i close it. I do have to occasionally release another valve that is at the back of the boiler that tops up the system with water. Can you suggest anything else to help with my problem. Thanks.
