I am pretty sure that only Cellnet and Vodafone SIMs are interchangable. Although the same model of phone is available for different networks they are not the same internally. It looks like you are stuck with one2one.

There are 3 places I know you can take you mobile phone to, and they will unlock your phone and make it Dual Band. Once they do this job, you can put in any sim card. One chap is at Dagenham Sunday Market, one chap in Romford Market and the 3rd at the Hackney Sunday Market. 2 of them charge £15 and the other £20. The comments of the other 2 postings are both correct.

Am I right in thinking that cellnet and vodaphone are both low band networks and therefore both work on the same phone, and orange and 121 are both high band and they can also be interchanged?

So I'll then be able to buy a second hand mobile off someone without having to worry about having it unlocked because it might be on the wrong network?

When you buy a mobile phone from say the BT Cellnet shop. After you have had the phone for 1 year they will unlock it for you free of charge. One 2 one do the same but Vodaphone and Orange are not nice companies, they are greedy *!#%!@ and may not offer you this service. I have 4 mobile phones 2 on BT and 2 on one2one. BT have just unlocked my phone for free after 13 months. When you buy a phone you should only and always buy a unlocked dual band. Some companies dont like you to get a 2nd hand phone and use the excuse for not unlocking them as that you are not the original person who bought the phone. Try and stay clear of Orange and Vodaphone they are the horrible ponses. Bigpaulh

I have just had my lovely new Nokia 8210 stollen, it was my second one as well, after my first one 'somehow' dissapeared too. To replace it I would like a Nokia 3310, but wanted to buy one from cellnet on PAYG. Will this accept my Cellnet contract SIM card or will that also need to be 'unlcoked'?

My sister bought a 121 PAYG and put her 121 Contract SIM in it and that worked fine.

Are they just network locked or something else???

Mail me direct please as I don't get chance to read this forum [Log in to view email]

Many thanks

If you have a BT Cellnet sim card that was in your 8210 and you go into any BT Cellnet shop and buy a 3310 phone from them. Yes it will work.... You will have to register the hand set to the sim card with BT Cellnet, but the shop can and will do this for you. The locking of phones by these companies is a right old con. But will BT Cellnet after a 1 year's term with them they unlock your phone FREE of charge. Vodaphone and Orange are *!#%!@ and rip off con artists. BT Cellnet are the best and most genuine out of all the companies. Take it from me I have dealings with all 4 major companies. Keep clear of Vodaphone and Orange they are 2 bob outfits. One2one are just exeptable but there service coverage is [Log in to view email] BT are the best of a poor 4 companies. In the USA, Germany and Holland and other European phone companies, they have virtually hundreds of different providers giving different contracts. We are still rip off Britain with our mobile phones and tarrifs. The Germans and Dutch dont suffer the Bo**ocks we suffer. Good Luck. BigPaulH

Yes but if I do that they will realise I am trying to con them, they will then try to make me buy the same phone SIM free and no doubt £100 more. Or do I register the PAYG SIM and not mention my contract one?

If the contract sim card is valid and in your name. You can apply to BT Cellnet direct and explain your position and buy a 3310 directly from them at a discount price. They will register your sim card to your phone and do it all for you...

It is mine yes, I have not yet recieved it through the post. But the reason I am having to do this is because my Nokia 8210 was stolen (boo) and I can't afford another. I like the look of the 3310 yet it still is very expensive.

I want to view the contents of a bt pay-as-you-go Startac (flip-up) phone but do not have the access code. If I guess and get it wrong three times the owner will know as it will "lock-up" I think - anyone know of any code you can put in to by-pass user code or any sites that might be able to help [Log in to view email]
