Doe's anyone have an idea of a valuation of a Ford Sierra XR4i 2.0 DOHC 91 H reg in mint condition? Need help with this as feel that my Insurers are not coming across with a fair settlement as some idiot stole it 12 weeks ago and it has never been found.

Sorry to hear about your car, car thieves should be herded up and shot at by a blind pensioner! I think you will be shocked when you find the value of your car, i was told that my immaculate m reg fiesta si is only worth £2000, according to a garage, robbing gits!! Looking through fast ford classifieds id say between £1500 and £2000. Its very rare you get the condition of the car taken into account due to the fact its your word against theres! How much have the insurers offered?

Sorry to hear some lowlife nicked your car.
If your insurer isn't taking account of what you feel is the excellent condition of the car, you could try asking your garage to write an official letter confirming the condition at the last service and their idea of its true value. Never tried it myself, but it might help your case to have backing from an independent party.

Receipts for work done and photos including tax disc (or other proof of age of pic, like X plate car in background etc.) might help but I think if a car is worth more than normal for its age and type then you have to agree it with the insurers beforehand. Good luck.

Thank's James. I think you are being extremely polite by saying what the thieving lowlife should get IF (Aye Right) they are ever caught. I personally would probably spend at least 3 - 4 years in prison if I ever caught them. Anyway getting back to the serious shut - the car was a Ford Sierra XR4i 2.0cc (DOHC) Version with 90k - 91 on an H Plate - lowered all round with Koni's, 17" Venom alloy's, serveral major work reciepts (probably totals £3 k for the 2 yrs I had the pleasure of owning it). The car it'self went like a bomb and was running sweet as a nut. My Insurers (If you can call them Insurers) have offered £1500. I feel with all the hard work and time spent on the car it is worth well in excess of this. I have already tried photo's & what reciept's I can get my hands on. Also the car contained my baby Son's car seat (£150), buggy (£100) and various other stuff. I makes me so mad to think that my Son has also lost out by some thieving twat who must have known what he has doing as the car was like fort knox - 1 alarm, 2 imobilisers, steering crooklock, handbrake crooklock, cut of switch - the only thing that was missing was a 20 stone rotweiller!

He/ she obviously knew what they were looking at. Even if you had the rottweiller they probably would have hypnotised it or something!
The b*****d will get what's coming to them one way or another - what goes around comes around and all that.

Its a sad fact that insurance companies look down on people who modify there car! They just dont understand why we do it! were the insurers aware of the modification done on the car? If not then they are extremely likely to say hard cheese, heres the value of a standard car, now piss off! If on the other hand they took into account all mods at the time you purchased your insurance, then they have got a responsability to pay up! Get onto the ford XR owners club who may be able to offer advice on the best plan of attack.

WWWWHHHAAASSSUUUPP James!
Yeah I did declare all the mods to the Insurers as I have been stung before when a set of wheels on a previous car (Series 1 Turbo)went walkies and my car grew a set of bricks under it!!
Have already spoken to a really helpful wee chappie on the XR Web sites but no one can come up with hard evidence of getting an independent value done without having to get the AA or RAC to do one which would probably cost the earth.

Never accept the first offer from the insurer. They offer less than they are prepared to pay as a matter of course. Refuse to accept at least the first 2 offers and they will usually come up significantly. Back it up with all the stuff you've mentioned. Insurers are no better than the low life who nicked your car - they just wear a tie while they're robbing you ! Good luck.
