I have been offerd 1 of these stering pumps electronic 1 for £80.00 .I have heard that it is a diode problem i am going to stripp mine to see if it can be repaired.My punto is in poor health needs new engine

Anthony,just beware that if you do buy one of these second hand,there is every chance that the part could also be no good,as you can see,this is a very wide spread problem,hope you get it sorted soon.

Had this problem,from the day i brought it home.I have a black punto sporting,had it as a pressie for my birthday,did have a warranty on it,but only for £300,as i found out only when i needed to use it.But all in all,its cost £355 to get it fixed,had to get it done quickly,as i have baby in the car all the time,when the power steering light comes on the dash,you just cannot control it.Anyway its done now,dont know how long it will last,but at least with BBA REMAN,hes on the web,you get 2 years guarantee,with the problem being so widespread,i might just need it.Keeping my fingers crossed,because the car is fab,in great condition otherwise.sue.

This discussion is getting a bit beyond a joke. The same thing over and over. BBA have bought shares in Fiat. Dawes probably works for BBA. E-bay make more money than anyone cos they sell. The BBC watchdog obviously barks but has no bite. Fiat have been producing a faulty steering unit for almost 10 years and watching this discussion they still are. No one will do anything about it because there would be alot of mechanics without work, its most likely another thing to bring down the level of unemployment. If you take time out to read this whole discussion you will find this out for yourselves. Generally I believe that its just a cheap computer set within the car itself. But what do I ask within the price of a punto. Hydraulic steering would be better. I have no use for a navigation system and a dvd player screens all over that car manufacturers are offering today, I just want a car to go from here to there safely. When the punto passed the crash test it was obviously done on a straight road, they didn't need a steering wheel. How many people have actually sent an E-mail to the fiat company to complain, BBA or BBC do not produce the fiat FIAT do.

Thanks for your comments. If I worked for BBA Reman I would not be replying to comments on this website.
This problem happend to the car I bought for my wife.
That is MY experience.
If you have nothing better to do than slag off people who are trying to help others I suggest you crawl back under that stone you came from.
I am passing on my experience of what happened, how much it cost me and whe I had to do.
For your information, I did go to FIAT and have the documentation to prove it.
Basically they told me to F**K off but politely, so I will do the same to you, go forth and multiply

i was 'slaggin off' no one but the people who expect something for nothing we can all sit back and do nothing. Hasn't anyone realized that the steering goes after 2 years anyway.

i would just like to tell yous all it is that goes down on the steering is a dioade. and how come some thing can not be down about this if any body can remember fiat called in the mark1 puntos in a few years back cause off corroson on back brake pipes.So i think there should do the same thing as this problem its all a come in my eyes . so that was a danger so same goes as this problem with steering failing .

Hi There are different reasins why the Power steering fails on Fiats, not just a diode , What some of you fail to realise is that it is not just Fiats that fail but most of the electric or electro/hydraulic steering from all different manufacturers, it is just that Fiats seem to fail more. Have a look on BBA's website and you will see the parts they sell are wide and varied. Also take a look on the other forums and you will see it is not just Fiat owners that have problems.

I've written on this forum previously that i was booking my car into Fiat to get the Power Steering Problem sorted but i never went ahead with it because the failure stopped happening. Now the problem has reared it's ugly head again i rang Fiat to book my car in - they told me since i had my quote in Feb 08 the part price had increased by 10% and i would only get 12 months guarantee with it.... what a rip off!! I'm so angry that Fiat are getting away with this and are not recalling the cars. has anyone heard from Watchdog.... i haven't!

I have the intermittent failure and have decided to go down the BBA route since being quoted £700 by my local garage! Quick question - BBA ask for the 'part number' when ordering, what do they mean by this, and how do I find it (note, I know pretty much nothing about cars), or should I just phone them?? Thanks! P.S. I have also contacted watchdog

If you have a look through the steering colmn adjustment lever you will see the part number.
If I remember correctly it sould be something like C107 or something like that.
You dont have to take the whole steering cover off to find this, you can just about see it through the adjustment lever with a torch...

i its the box that u replace on it and the barrell i got one from scrap yard for 40 pound. other scap yards where wanting 80 to 125 for one

hello, my punto lost it's power steering about 6 months ago, I have now learnt to live without it. However, my MOT is due and I was wandering if my punto will actually pass without the original power steering?? wb thanx

firstly, what is the name of the part i actually need to repair my punto's power steering??
And secondly is it best to buy the part from BBA Reman or off ebay?? (with ebay isn't there a chance i may get the wrong part or it won't work properly?)

I was charged £230 for a recon pump supplied and fitted and a diognostic check at the fiat dealer in Leigh Lancs.

hi every1 i have a fiat putno active 2004 which has been giving me alot of problems i recently had the clucth and brake pads replaced i also had a recon- gearbox total cost £1500 i am now having problems with the steering a red steering wheel symbol appears and steering is heavy iv been to the mechanic they cant find a problem the car starts up and then cuts out i have to rev it to keep it started can any1 pls help me out. thanx.
