Geoff, go to Ebay and put in the search part fiat punto power steering - it will bring up BBA Remain. If you buy off the auction it will owrk out slightly cheaper. Also, PLEASE report this to BBC watchdog as they are investigating this. I have had emails from them

Hi Geoff, yes Dawes is correct, It does work out slightly cheaper with bidding on ebay, but as I wanted to get mine done a.s.a.p I just went direct to BBA Reman, just Googled the name and the site comes up, the phone number is there. Mine has been fine since, although it is quite a costly job. Here`s the number for your convenience. Tel: 01773 535638 Opening Times: Monday - Friday 9:00am-5:30pm Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm regards Sue

Hi just a quick note, anyone who is thinking of buying a power steering motor, then fitting it themselves, beware, because it needs to go onto the compter after to set up. This I found out, after taking my car to the garage to have the accelerator motor cleaned out, as the revs kept on sticking, when the guy took it for a test run, he told me who ever put the power steering motor on, to keep hands off in future, as it was pulling to the left and driving bad, as it needed setting up on computer after job was done.

Hi Anthony, I had the motor cleaned out and the computer set up, with a total price of £70.50. Told me it was around £60 have motor cleaned, so I submise he charged me a tenner to have it set up. Sue

We have never had this problem. We got the motor from BBA via Ebay, had a garage fit it and sorted - no computer involved...6 months now and still working great

I too got my power steering motor from BBA reman,I neither had any problems, just when I took the car to the garage to have another problem sorted, (the garage specialises in Fiat), he asked if I had noticed that the car was pulling to the left and not a nice drive, which I had. He just said that when new electrical parts are sometimes put on, they need to go on to the computer after. Was just giving the advice I got Dawes, not to say everyone would have the same problem. The garage only charged me an extra £10, so i`m sure he was`nt just trying to rip me off, or the fee would have surely been more. Whatever he did the steering is loads better.

I have a punto that is seven years old, it also has the same problem for the second time in its life- first time it was still under warranty. The problem seems to be the electrc motor that drives the power steering, its very expensive to get it mended, in fact it will cost more than the cars worth- not good when you consider its age.

Hi. Have a look on Ebay for a new steering assembly from a company called bba-reman Item number 150280428283 if there aren't any listed then go direct to their website just google the company name, then get a local garage to fit the part for you it shouldn't cost more than £300.00 . A lot cheaper than Fiat

I finally decided to get the steering done after months of it sbeing off and on. I live in Corfu Greece and its not so easy to get things done here. Fiat wanted 1000euro. Went to my local mechnic and he took it to an electrician. Together they fixed the steering giving me a 2 year warranty for 250euro. They replaced only the mechanical parts of the steering and put extra sensors, a method they found on the web. My car steering is a bit heavier than it was before but at least I have the city button if I need it, if anything the steering was very light anyway on the punto in the beginning. I'm quite happy with the result. I'm sure if a small island like this can find the answer everyone should be able to.

It doesn't have to be a cold day but it always when I turn left ! Just been out checked all the fuses which were abit loose sorted that out seems to be working OK for now shall see how it goes.... Maybe we should all contact Watchdog seeing as quite alot of people are having this problem ????

Hi, I'm having the same issues with my V reg Fiat Punto... Wish I hadn't have got rid of my Corsa!!!!!!!! Although my Punto doesn't constantly have the problem, it happens regularly, especially if I drive over about 50mph or if I drive for more than 25 minutes consecutively. Does this sound more like I need to recharge the battery or that I need to replace the whole lot? I've looked at the parts you're recommending but don't want to spend unnecessarily, my student nurse bursary doesn't stretch this far!!!! Kayla

find yourself a good auto electrician preferable a younger one and the chances are he will fix it for you at the half of the price that fiat want if you drive the car alot then it shouldn't be your battary unless its an old one (Have it tested)
