I am seriously considering buying a 97/98 saxo VTR. The main attraction is the insurance rating and the performance which can be attained with a bit of mild tuning. Does anyone have any experiences of the VTR. Either good or bad, i would appreciate any feedback.

Hi James,
I currently own a saxo vtr which i am trying to sell. I can tell you that they are great cars and very sporty considering the low insurance costs. I have owned mine now for nearly six months and have only just last week seen one in the same colour as mine (limited edition british racing green). I have been given an offer of a car which i cannot refuse (a v reg ford puma for £6,500!!) so i am afraid it is time to sell the saxo.

for any details you may want.

The Saxo used to be one of my favourite cars. (I got bored of them rather than found something wrong with them). Anyways. Good cars with great handling, IF you leave the wheels alone. I know several people that have put oversized wheels on them and alright it looks good, but the exceptional handling goes out of the window. My friend nearly wrote his off when he tried going into a corner at the speed he usually did but after having larger rims fitted found himself hurtling towards a brick wall. Worth remembering.

Two of my friend have VTR's - both on T Plates - They are super cars to start you off - I have yet to drive / be driven in any similiar sized car which can beat the VTR for handing. If you want throttle responce stick with the VTR - The VTS lacks the same responce.

If you do get a Saxo, make sure you modify the brakes, they are shockingly bad! But, so are most of the parts on Citroens.

I have a T Reg Saxo VTR that is due to be part exanged in 2 weeks (thank god!). Although I love the car (its really fast and economical) it really is a nightmare.

It had depeciated terribly, and as soon as you go over 40,000 miles, things start to drop off!

Low insurance is a bonus though.
