I absoloutly am in favour of having pit bulls non-muzzled unless obviously dangerous. I know god knows how many staffies pit bulls rottweilers boxers and all are loving and caring dogs, although these dogs have been brought up with people who want a family pet not a mean monster to terrify. Being sixteen myself i agree with the fact that they should not be legally owned by anyone under this age as the lack of training and responsibility from my age group is terrible! Pit bulls can be lovely so long as brought up nicely (as can any dog)

I disagree strongly with your comment "that a pit bull will never turn on a child." I have seen tv footage of children being attacked by pitbulls for no obvious reason. Most dogs when they attack can be stopped but when a pit bull attacks it just keeps going and will even turn on the person trying to stop it. I think these dogs should be only kept by experienced dog handlers. I think the breeds of all fighting dogs should be made to die out. But then I suppose someone will cross breed another devil dog!

as a bully owner of and a parent of two,how can anyone say a pittbul will never atack a kid,, whats so sad is a little girl got killed dont worry about thay had to put the poor dog down after a child has been killed, i know the owner of the pittbull as a granmother whould have never thought her dog whould have ever killed this poor little girl i chould stick up for bullys all day long as a bully breed person i have seen pittbulls slep with babys i have seen kids ride my english bull terrier like he is a pony my dogs love kids if you read about staffs thay all say thay love kids,,,and i beleve most do,, but kids have been killed and bit by staffs and pittbulls and lots of kinds of dogs, my point is in the wrong hands these dogs chould be killers and this has been proven, now choul someone tell me about pittbull laws, now i have heard loads of diffrent staments that pittbulls are not aloud to be breed in england, not aloud to be brought into england to,what year did the pittbull law come into england and was this law ment that in years to come say a pittbull lives to 16 years old say from the date the law came out to the date in 16 years time there should be no moor pittbulls in england, please please lets stop the bull and think about this as a parent and not just a dog owner sam

Its all to do with how the dog is brought up, i blame the owners for this pit bulls attack, i wouldnt trust any small child left alone with any dog let alone a pit, ive worked in a boarding kennels for years and have looked after peoples dogs whilst there owners were on holiday, i was looking after a red pitbull id been taking it for walks for about 9 days and the following morning i went into it kennel to get it out to talk it and he attacked me, i thought i was gonna die, lucky enough i ended up with just scratches to my right arm and was shaken up a bit, if it wasnt for my friend working with me i might of died, the dog was put to sleep due to the fact he had attacked.

it doesnt put me off other pitbulls though as like i said its who brings them up, you have to show them from day one there dogs NOT humans and little kids, respect them and they will respect you, it will all blow over soon wait till another breed like a yorkie attacks a small child will they ban them??????????

pits are not banned in the uk but YOU DO NEED a liscence to own one.

hi i noticed this discusssion and never knew youhad to have a licence for a pitbull,i own a full breed white beautiful pitbull that is absoutely great with other dogs and humans, but while its great i would never fully trust her not because shes a pitbull but because shes an animal and no one can ever fully 100% trust an animal, i even had my mum go on to me saying she saw that little girl on the news the other day who was killed by a pitbull and she wanted me to get rid of mine because i have 2 children i then went on to tell her that shes never left alone with them and if there was any sort of aggression i wouldnt hesitate in letting her go, i even reminded her that when i was round her house one day her little yorkie actually tried to bite my daughter probably because its not used to children. it winds me up when people comeonhere and say that these dogs are nasty animals when infact they are actually one of the smartest friendliest dogs around just like bullies, how many dogs can climb trees.
im not trying to cause arguments coz everyones entitled to theyre oppinions like my oppinion of yorkies is that they are silly little yapping dogs that you cant have as much fun with on a field as a bigger dog like a pitbull like wrestling with a rope etc,ut thats my oppinion and ive noticed that other people dont like pitbulls but i dont go as far as to say they should be banned or killed off.
this is what makes dog breeds great for everyone theres so many great interesting breeds, anyway anyone wanna chat about how great and how bad pitulls are and send some pics its always nice to see other pitbulls, i'll try and post mine if somone tells me how to,thanks glen

glen how you doing, its nice to hear from a family man that owns a pittbull, first i whould like to say things you have said is what any good dog owner whould say, thirst not given any big dog 100percent trust,a bully now lets forget about a pittbull we will say a bully a staff a english a pittbull and now we have the irish staff that everyone is talking about which i will go into later, first a bully even the best of bull terrier that loves kids chould jump and knock a child over the dog might lick the child when over but a bully dog is powefull and can knock a child over so the not given the dog 100per cent trust is good ownership, people must not get the wrong vibe that we dont trust our dogs we know that thay can be playfull,, when i first got my english bull we all went to the shops and we got every toy you can think of and of course we got him tuging toys you know small ropes you pull with and most of these toys are all frilly so my george loved them have a tug of war was his play time he loved it? then one day i had him around the park and my mate came around with his daughter. well the next min my george jumped up at the kids hair she had a big scrunchy hair band and he thought it was one of his tug toys well i tell you what he got the hair band and a bit of hair now that is the type of thing that choul happen without even noticeing,,my dog has never ever bit anyone and he is nine years old and he has never had a fight with another dog,but how whoul i have told someone i never new. my dog was playing.sam

what is a pittbull type , i think we all have to look more into the law of owning a pittbull because i think a lot of people dont know the real laws,, the law states you cant breed pittbulls in england. you have to reg your pittbull thats if you owned one when the law came out any dog that is crossed with a pittbull is a pittbull type which is banned in england, people are breeding pitt types and calling them irish staffs now there is irish staffs but not every one owns a real irish staff some people own a pittbull type, now if a vet says your dog is a pittbull type the law will say put it down, first of all i thoght i am a owner of a irish staff, after i read all about the irish staff i thought my dog dont look like a pittbull that a lot of people are saying that a irish staff is just a new word for a pittbull, so i took her to my mate who is a vet and asked him what he thinks took my dogs papers with me and told him i am worried that my dog is half pitt and there is a chance of her geting put down. now after all our homework photos and checking it turns out the father of my dog is half amrican bulldog and her mother is pure staff,so first of all my dog is safe and has the right to live thank god only because my mate sold me this lovely big staff bitch and if you see her photos she is lovely but she ant a staff she ant a bull dog she ant a pittbul she is a staffbull just like my mate i bought her of a load of bull

A friend of mine has a staffy crossed with an american bulldog. Now he is an adult dog he looks like a pitbull but he's not a pitbull. His temperment was ok with older dogs but not with puppies. I wouldn't trust him with my children although I know he has been brought up in a loving family (with kids) environment. Unfortunately with no paperwork on the dog if he attacks someone he will be labelled as a "pitbull".

staffy/amrican bulldogs the goverment are trying to bring in new laws as the same as the pittbulls,a male staff/bulldog grows to be a big powerfull dog a lady by me has a male when her son brought him home as a staff mum said lovely when the dog was 3 months old she was telling people it was nine months because it was so big and people were thinking it was a pittbull, now the law says amrican bulldogs are welcome by kennel club staffs are welcome by kennel club, so crossing the two is not breaking the law?but the dogs are very big and powerfull and the same as the rest of big dogs in the wrong hands can be problems,,so if the law comes out we have to muzzle our dogs have then spaded chiped and tatto to keep our dogs then its the best thing we can all do, all the real pittbull owners done it, and most people who never done it know that thay dont own a pure pittbull it a pittbull type which is not aloud in england and a high chance your dog will have to get putdown now.iread a bit about pittbull laws as no one seemed to be able to tell me the pittbull laws and someone says that no reg pittbull in england can be under the age of 14 years old because thats when the law was started it did not seem that long to me can anyone anser that one for me

i live in northern ireland and my friend owns a staff and she is the nicest most well traned dog i have ever seen shes black and tan and lives with two young chilren she,d never hurt them shes lovely ,a pitbull is a cross between staffs and another bull breed there is no such breed a pitbull there are called so because the fight them in pits ,just another example of MAN ruining another species as man as always do he just hasnt the convictions to own up to wat hes done to mans best friend, they should not be bred, and any decent staff owner shouldnt breed his dog to produce a pitbull .my opinion

i dont doubt your dogs are all good pets, the magority of them are, there are many exceptions to the rule here in ireland there is a pit bull amnestiy going on so all people with pit bulls can ahnd these dogs in if they think there pit bulls, pet owners with pitbull type dogs who think there dogs are good pets wont hand in a family member and to be honest i prob wouldnt either but its not the pet owners there targeting, its the people who use these dogs for fighting or scaring people, and it happens thats why these dogs are getting a bad name ,i own a boxer and although shes a good family dog, shes also a DOG .

here we go. ignorant ppl seeing the name pitbull and giving there opinion on something they know nothing about. pitbulls granted were and are bread for fighting. what most ppl dont know they are also bread to be friendley with ppl as the owners of the dogs wash each others dogs before a fight. how many dogs would let a total stranger wash them. please note i am totaly against dog fighting and think anyone who takes part in it should be strung up. hate to say it but there was a lot less fuss about the rotty before christmas. the so called pitbull in question was five and a half stone and less than 12 months old. now thats big for a fully grown pit so looks like its a cross breed hence it being labled as pitbull type. mongrel would not make it sound half as exiting. the lad who owned the dog was a drug dealer that was most probs a druggy himself so what chance did the dog have of turning out ok. none!!!!!. anything in the wrong hands can kill a child. there are far more dangerous dogs out there but none of them make as good news as the dreaded pitbull. all i am trying to say is please do not pass judgement on something you have never known or had like these mp's who dont know what its like to love or own a pet and think it can be handed over to be put to death as if it were worthless. imagine what most pb owners are going through at the moment at the very thought of some one coming and killing something they love very much as only a minority of owners are complete wa****s and not the majority. ask your self as you must have pets as your in a pet forum how you would feel if someone wanted to destroy something you considerd to be part of the family.
ps. my heart goes out to the little girls family as i have a daughter myself and could not begin to imagine what they are going through.
