spot on mate, these people see the news, never owned one and think theyve got the right to say they all should be shot because of a few idiots who think its clever to fight them, that dog that killed the girl by the way is being tested for steroids what sort of proper loving owner would do something like that,i feel the pitbull will always get a hard time in the uk because of the negative press it gets, look in america its the most popular dog and the majority of police forces use them, thats got to be saying something. does anyone remember in the late 80s or early 90s when rottys where seen as a bad dog and where always on the news and where almost banned, they are great dogs too but these mindless people again whove never owned one but may have had a bad experience with one in a park ecause of it being theyre fault and not keeping theyredog on a lead or the other way around, please dont say bad things about pitbulls beingput down because i own one which is loved by a family which has two children in it that has brought it up to be a very loving affectionate dog,how would you like it if people kept saying youre dog should be put down because of other people who dont know how to raise a dog properly

i have had a bad experience with a pitbull and it wasnt in the park or my dog wasnt even there ,a woman was walking the dog and i was walking going to town and the dog looked a nice dog and i was along side her i asked wat sort he was and she said a pitbull he was on a lead and i said how old is he and she say 3 yr old and i said is he funny with strangers and she go no he,s soft and i asked could i stroke him and she says yes so i did and was stroking him for a few minutes and then backed away to stop stroking him and the dog jumped at me and grabed my hand 3 stitches i needed ,the dog i didnt want put down as he was a family pet ,and told the owner if she trusted him after wat he,d done then to keep him which she did for 2 mths then he bit her grandaughter and was put down,i own and dogs and i would definetly under any circumstances have him/her put down if they bit my kids ,and they are like family to me.maybe m just lucky with mine iv has them for 15 yrs and not had any turn on me or the kids, the dog has to be trained from 6weeks to respect you and if he dont then your in trouble, its amazing how many people spend £400-£800 for a dog then dont bother there bum to train it then they wonder y the dog is nasty, its not just pits and bull breeds ,my daughter had a rotty and she was the sweetest ever,if small dogs were large the amount of damage they could do you wouldnt believe.

hi there davis, i just wanna say i totally agree with ur comment, i dont actually own a pitbull i own english bull terriers but i would never blame the dog for attacking people as its the owners that bring them up that way my 2 bullys have never bitten anybody but are very protective towards me and my 3 children and could possibley go for some1 in the future if they or us feel threatened, but all this in the news i really do feel sorry for the dogs as some of them could be just family pets that are soft as s**t but still cause of havin the name pitbull terrier they will b put 2 sleep i just think it is so unfair the owners should b the 1's 2 b punished and never aload 2 own an animal ever, i found a forum the other day by accident i was searchin 4 history on english bull's and it brought up a forum about dog fightin i couldnt believe what i was readin there were some sick b*****ds in there i dont understand y peeps wanna pay all that money 2 fight them knowing they will lose there dog and jus imaging the dogs losin there lifes 4 money makes me feel sick, anyway i think i had better go cause i could b here all night moaning (as i am a women hahaha) lets hope things will soon calm down about these poor dogs.

i have a full staffy bitch with no papers and liv in lpool i have been pulled by the police several times because my dog is larger than a normal staff she is a bout half an inch taller than the breed standard states although she has rosetts from shows i think the authorities have to be very carefull as to how they approach the seizure of dogs there has been a ban on the breed wheras the ban sould be placed on the breeders and owners of the dogs bred for fighting and not those who own perfectly normal family pets. anyone in lpool interested i breeding either english bulys or staffys with mine plz contact on 07765112163 asap as she is due in season soon saucy sam ur dog is soooooooo cute lol

to be honest with you i sort of agree and disagree . i live in ni and have met quite a few pits . and in my time have only met one that hasn had form or shown agression it was only 4 months old . and owned by an older couple but sayin that the others were owned by young men whoacted like tough guys and thought the idea of owning visous dogs was gr8 . so in a way yes i agree it is some times possible it can be they way the dog is taught but not all are owned in this way so maybe just maybe there are a few out there that aint visious child or animal malling maniacs but i still wouild never want to be alone with one and thats just my opinion and im sure the parents of the kid that was bitten so savagely wud whole heartedly agree

if pitbulls are gr8 with people just not other dogs why are they a breed registered under the dangerous dogs act . maybe they are misunderstood as iv met a few nice friendly pits in my time but also know of a few very savage ones also . mayb its the owner to blame on both counts one for not muzzling the dog and two for training it to be a leathal kiling machine . but there is so many different sorts out there its hard to know a true pit when there advertised as loing legged staffs or big build staffs or irish staffs anyone cud be confused into buying a leathal dog . even in rehoming centres there are rescued pits taking away from such people i myself have come across with my sis and she has been told they are boxer cross or som otha breed an it so apparent there pit bulls and x fighting dogs just from appearance and the wounds to the body theyre shud be more awareness out there on what a pitbull looks like cos im my opinion any type of dog crossed with a bull terrior is classified as apitbull or pitbull cross

i think most people dont even know what a pittbull is? people think a big staff is a pittbull, dogs been seized are of pittbull type, what is a pittbull type, well its ment to be a pittbull bred with any other dog, half pittbull half sausge dog ect ect, think what a lot of the troble is people dont know there dogs, now if we look at the amrican pittbull terrier which is liveing in the u.s.a, now is it common for them to attack people have there been loads of attacks we dont seem to hear about it out there,,, and im shure thay have drug problems out there, so lets find out,, i think the pittbull is one of the largest breeds in the states and the breed is not baned. so i think dog attacks in england are not from pittbulls but pittbull types which can be anything,,i dont own a pittbull so im not sticking up for the breed as a owner i do think the pittbull is takeing the blame for other bad breeding, no pittbull should be under the age of 14 years old liveing in uk

am writing to you to ask for your help regarding our campaign to bring an end to breed specific legislation. The recent death of Ellie Lawrensen in Merseyside after an attack by a Pit Bull type dog was a tragedy that few of us can comprehend. However, the response to that tragedy is in danger of causing the deaths of many innocent animals belonging to responsible dog owners. Merseyside police are planning an amnesty in which owners of Pit Bull type dogs may hand their dogs in, free from the fear of prosecution. These dogs will then be killed. We strongly believe that an amnesty will not achieve its aim of making the area safer from so-called "dangerous Dogs". Those who are deliberately breeding and keeping Pit Bull Type dogs for fighting (and these dogs are undoubtedly those with the most potential for dangerous behaviour) are not going to hand in dogs after all criminals do not generally participate in amnesties, they are operating outside of the law and want to use dogs for fighting. Those who don't know they have pit bull types won't think to hand their dogs in. Those who might hand dogs in are those with a dog which looks like a "type" (and the DEFRA guidelines used to identify "type" are based purely on looks in which a Labrador scores 90%!) Most of these dogs will be Staffordshre bull terriers and crossbreeds handed in by scared but responsible owners. All this will do is target innocent animals that will be killed unnecessarily. We are a group of responsible dog owners, rescues and organisations who, with the support of organizations like the kennel club, dogs trust and others, are campaigning to change the laws regarding dangerous dogs. We want the government to change the current legislation and introduce new legislation that truly protects the public from dogs raised by irresponsible owners who may become a danger to people and other animals. Regardless of their breed or type.
There is no doubt that the current DDA is a flawed piece of legislation, it is not even clear that it has helped to reduce dog attacks as there are no reliable statistics kept. Instead it imposes a blanket ban on breeds and does not target bad owners whose behaviour is very often the reason why dogs are anti-social. The onus has to be put on owners to ensure their pets are well trained and responsibly cared for. Breed Specific Legislation targets the wrong end of the lead! For more information about our campaign about why breed specific legislation and blanket amnesties are wrong and unlikely to be successful please visit our website http://www.deednotbreed.org.uk Here you will also find articles and letters of support from well known trainers, dog magazines and from the dogs trust and kennel club all opposing Breed Specific legislation and amnesties. We are encouraging everyone to sign the e-petition to Tony Blair which can be found at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/deedNOTbreed/ Finally, we would like to pass on a message to your members asking for their help and support. Thank you for your time and any help you can give us. Yours Sincerely, A Parker on behalf of Deed Not Breed

if youou cross a english with a staff you dont have a pitt . if you cross a staff with a boxer you dont have a pitt, if you cross a staff with a amrican bulldog you dont get a pitt, people in u.s.a in certent parts dont reconise a pittbull in the kennel club, some people say a pitt bull is not a breed. but i have seen pure pitts well i have seen a good few pitts, but thay never looked like the so call pitts that people are walking around with now thay are not pitts, now why do or did thay breed this dog to fight because this dog is loyal to human the had that feeds it, a pitt chould be in the pitt fighting near death but yet he still loves the no good person who is making him fight the scum, but the dog does not turn on the human who is puting him though near or death, i think ,,the so call pittbull of today is turning on people because he is not a pittbull he is a pittbul type,i own a english and a staff i dont own pitts but i ask myself and i ask others why the dog is turning what starts them of and what dog is this.sam

heh i thought these forums was for peoples opinion nt for us dog breeders to fall out over lets just say we have uor own opinon on these things and for us as breeders to convince the genearl public on the fact its the owner thats trained the dog,had him from pup in most cases, who is in fact to blame when the dog does bad,and bites someone ,but it has always been as i was growing up that if the dog bites the child then the dog is put down, what about the owner do he get away scott free ,in my opinon he should be made to pay for what hes sdone the dog after all was his dog.

so a randy jack russell monts o staff and she gives birth to pittbull pups, and a staff mates with a gsd and we have a pittbull pup?of course we ant, now the last post makes sense, if you can show your dog is no danger to anyone then the dog is fine,, and it makes sense ,any dog in the wrong hands is danger,,,and if a dog is danger it should not be here, you dont see so many guard dogs no moor like in yards or building sites, i rember years ago kids climbing over building sites and been bitten by a doberman,, when the pittbull laws came in loads of dogs were taken by the police and loads of them were not even pittbull terriers so if the kc are trying to ban staffs that are over the standed sizei think we have a problem, because it seems to be there are a lot of big staffs around today ,most people can tell a staff but there is a lot of people who dont know what thay look like,,the guys who breed boxers do you dogs jump high, my mate had a boxer boris was wis name he was as soft as a lamb but he used to jump bloody high and a few times he knocked his little girl over in the end he was lucky his bother took him as he had no kids , are boxers very jumpy or was it just his one sam

my m8 has a boxer called dextor and he is one of the softest friendliest dogs i have ever come across and he is like a coiled spring. he has bust my nose sevral times. also he has a 5 year old daughter that he is so gentle with, you would think he was a diffrent dog. just like to say some of the nastiest dogs i have come across have been boxers but there is no way on earth i would tar them all with the same brush. dextor comes from a loving home and is treat like a child. one of the other dogs was owned by a meat head bouncer that looked like a boxer (dog that is) at the bottom of our street. doesnt this say it all.

alot of my boxers can jump so hogh they are like a coiled spring your right, even my 10 mth old at 7 month old jumped out of a 8ft run, they do need to be trained not to jump on people, also if 4 of our dogs r all playingfetch our 5yr old can walk in amongst them and take the toy of the most dominant dog,the way there trained again, the jack russell catchng hold of the staff =pitbulls is laughable the uspca here in northern ireland screened a programme on ulster tv bk in sept ,time saying any other bull breed crossed with a staff =pitbull so dont shoot the messenger. society now days dont like to blame the nieghbour if thier dog gos wrong so who do they blame THE DOG.

Hey there I thought they were banned. I didn't know you could have them as long as they were chipped and licensed as far as I was aware they were banned in the 80's. or something. A ban is a ban isn't it? I'm not a pit hater by the way I love them which is why I am curious to know whats what??

hi gem i thought they were banned also but there everywhere,it seems to most people on here that the uspca/rspca dosnt know wat a pitbull is ,or how there bred, there was a programme on in ni, that clearly stated that the pit bull was a xbred dog, that was created by crossing and other bull breed with a staff ,now mayb they all wrong or a select few on this site is ,i dont know who r but yes your right a ban was placed on them in the 80s stating they had to be chipped spayed/castrated/muzzed in public so excuse me if im wrong there shouldnt be many left if the rules had been carried out .no matter how much of a loving family pet they are.

it is really sad what happend to that poor little girl and my heart goes out to her family. but that dog was game bred and trained to fight plus the amount of stereoids in that dog is going to send it crazy. its the owners fault for doing that to a dog he should go to prison. to be fair its only mankinds nature to make a dog like that and because of the power of these dogs they got chosen. they are the best dogs in the world, but with people keeping the to fight and tight breeding programmes they will go bad. even if the pitbull is erased from the whole of the planet they will only pick on the next type of dog. banning the pit isnt the answer the answer is making sure they are only bred with other good pits and introducing bloodlines that have been proven to be stable. otherwise there will only be the bad dogs beeing bred with other bad dogs and limiting the blood lines will spell disaster. so instead of trying to beat whats happening why dont the goverment bring in laws to help the bread like you can only have one if you dont have a criminal record, you would have to do puppy calsses and get your dog trained to a goverment approved level, you would have to have your dog tested by a governing body who would dertermine that the dog passes a series of mental tests and once your dog gets a official certificate you can only bread with another dog that also posses that certificate? then you would eliminate alot of bad dogs plus normall people who love the bread will no what they are buying. lets face ive seen some of these so called pitbulls and they are nothing like the reall deal. so many crosses have taken place over the yars that you just have doddgy crosses of all types of breads that people are passing of as pits (these are the dangerouse dogs)

hi ya i have owned a couple of pitbulls some do have a nasty streak in them others dont. i think it is the owners fault most of the time and also the nasty side can be breed in them. i went to a place the other week and there was a pbt kept on a chain in a shed which was not fair on the dog i asked if it was a pbt he denied it but u could see that it was. he had about 25 which he claimed that he did weight pulling with them he later said they were pbt. in my local paper adtrader you are not allowed to advertise dogs as pbt or american staffsmy aunt was lookin for a staff and found a breeder in adtradr she went to view the pups but they didnt seem like staffs to her they were to tall. it turned out it was the same person i met and the dog on the chain was the farther. i think that advertising a pbt as a staff is wrong as for english bull terriers my mum has bred them for years and they are nice dogs but she had a pup which her mate brought and it turned nasty nearly bit her nose off she had it put down after a few attacks and the vets done a postmortem on him it turned out he had a brain toumer

as an owner of american bulldogs i take exception to people discussing pit bull types of any sort as killing machines that need to be exterminated. i think that the way these dogs are treated is closer to naziism than rational thinking.dogs are dogs plain and simple and as a dog lover i find the hysteria objectionable. where are the people campaining for the dogs rights? i am a mother and i do leave my kids on thier own with my dogs and never once have the dogs showed even the slightest inclination of violence towards my kids. why are these dogs used for search and rescue in the usa.they are also taken into hospitals to make the sick better. should we kill all of them also? the media have alot to answer for in this country for the demise of a dog who is a cross of our origianal english bulldog. wake up! if these dogs are so bad,and considering there are thousands of bully types in this country then surely we would be hearing about multiple deaths every day.( also the owner of the pit who killed that poor lovely little girl was a drug dealer, who probably tried to guard train his dog and the dog was being tested for steroids last i read.) people who wrongly believe that they need to train thier dogs to be guard dogs are the people who need shooting in my mind. if you wish to train your dog in this manner then you should go to a qualified trainer. it is after al,l a life or death situation looming if you get it wrong.
