i suspect my water pump on my fiat punto 1.2 s reg has packed up as my water isnt circulating it just gets very hot and overheats. do you have to remove the cambelt to get to the water pump?

Well actually no you don`t have to remove the Cambelt to remove the water pump, all you need to do is loosen the tensioner & push it out of the way, but just make sure that you don`t move either of the top (camshaft) or bottom (Crankshaft) pulleys, but since you have to remove it to check it for wear anyway just replace it as if It`s never been replaced & you have owned the car for over two or three years or done over 20.000 miles since you have owned it It`s a false economy not to since you are there, I hope this has helped you in your F.I.A.T. hour of need, strange thought as most Fiat waterpumps leak before they seize & rattle like Fcuk,or in the case of a cheap copy the Impeller falls off.

Thankyou for your reply, the AA suspect water pump when i called them out last friday, the heating in the car works after a while and i know the fan went on briefly when the AA man was checking it over and the thermostat opened. whats happening is that the water is heating up in the water bottle when the car gets to temp, dont seem to be circulating round, staying in bottle and boiling. had no leaks that i noticed, i look after my cars and make sure there is anti-freeze and oil and water so im quite shocked that this happened. the AA man said should check head gasket as well, would that have gone?

The cheapest way to check if the water pumps gone is to start the car up rev it gently for about 45 seconds with the radiator cap off then let it tic over and get someone to look to see if the water level rises & falls when reved, then if it does or doesn`t switch it off, then remove the upper hose that comes out of the water pump going to the heater end ,restart the engine, let it tic over then rev it about a 1/2 down & if the pumps gone the water will stay at a dribble not shoot out like it would if the pump was operational, let the engine cool down, and do the pump, or remove the thermostat your car wont overheat but it will be chilly, until you get it fixed, & no if your head gasket was gone I doubt if it would start anyway, but your oil would turn milky or you would alway`s be topping up your radiator.

Hi there Fiat man! I need help with a bravo td75 on a v reg! I have just rebuilt the engine, re fitted it and now it is firing but not running! I noticed that there is no lift pump to bring fuel up from the tank so i assume it is a self bleeding system.?
I managed to prime the pump and filter etc an now like i say it is firing but just wont catch an run on its own!!( every now and then it will fire up just for a split second tho then die again)

Any ideas on what to try would be helpfull!
Thanks m8
Dave

Hi hope you can help me. Have a 2001 Fiat Seicento Sporting. Replaced the battery with a new one and now the alarm won't go off despite pressing the button on my car key fob, there is a symbol with a car with a key code above it on the dash which I presume means the immobilizer is on.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Hi, can you tell me if there is a "light" towbar for my Punto MK1,the last towbar I had fitted to an earlier Punto was really heavy,"think it was made by Harland & Wolfe" (shipbuilders). I was thinking a Brinks maybe suitable,I only want to tow a trailer up to 395KLS.

Hi Fiat Man, Please can you tell me if this sounds right. ABS light on and crunching brakes, took car to Wilson Perves, are they Fiat Dealers? Anyway I paid them £140.00 for them to find out what was problem but they could only tell me that it was possible fault at control unit, all sensors ok, pump running all the time, and intermittant error at phonic wheel???? They said they were only about 70% sure but advised a new ECU unit at £850.00 and may not cure problem. If not it may be a wiring problem, a two man job etc etc cost even more. At a loss as what to do? I thought their diagnostic tools could detect definite problems from the ECU. Also, please could you tell me if I do have to replace the ECU, I have only one key and I cant see any colour, (blue or red) it is just silver with the black plastic on it, do I need the master key to replace an ECU unit, and would I be able to get another place to do it a lot cheaper? Thanks so much if you could help (i know nothing bout cars etc).
