Hi Fiat Man
My son has an M reg Cinquencento, it has an intermittant starting problem: Sometimes it will start first time, but sometimes it just does not want to start. There seems to be no pattern to it, any ideas?

hey fiat man,

been having problems with my ABS system on a 2001 sporting 16v for a few months now. Initially diagnostics said rear hubs were at fault. changing both rear hubs seemed to sort the problem for a couple of weeks.

but now it's back

the ABS light comes on intermittently, usually after about 10mins driving. when the light is off, i can feel the ABS working, vibrating the pedal especially at low speeds. when the light is on the pedal feels fine.

diagnostics are now displaying the following:

P0006 : INCORRECT NUMBER OF TEETH

have you experienced this before? the rear hubs were genuine fiat ones, so they shouldn't be a problem. how many teeth should the rear hubs have?

please help, it's starting to drive me mad!

thanks in advance,
james.

In my experience of ABS you should not feel any vibration unless the wheels are locking, it should feel normal under normal driving.
That aside its worth checking the tye sizes, wear and similar manufacuring differences. It could be gradually mounting up incorrect uneven counts from teeth.

Thanks Tonyh,

The tyres are brand new all round, and the correct size.

The brake pedal feels like it's almost grinding on the disc, but is modulated dependent on what speed you brake from. But this is only when the light is off, when the ABS light is on the actual brakes feel fine.

It's the fault code which is confusing me, I can't find reference to it anywhere (P0006).

It seems like a faulty wheel speed sensor, but I don't know where the problem is from the fault code.............

this car is driving me crazy.

It sounds like the ABS module is affecting the braking when it should not. There should not be any effect from the unit until the wheels are skidding. Though if there is a poor pickup from 1 wheel's serations, then it might think its skidding!. Chicken and egg situation I think. Make sure ther are no broken teeth on both discs or wherever the pickup is.
