Hi, Rab here again still no luck with my missfire, I have tried all the usual things and have had to take it to a local garage. The `machanic` tells me that he is sure it is either the valves or the rings and that the car is basicaly scrap, Is it possible that he is right? Thanks, Rab

Hi Drew, I dont like answering on someones personal column, but most Punto's have a heater blower switch which has 5 positions 0ff, 1,2,3, full the positions 1,2,3, each have a seperate ballast resistor to reduce fan speed, seems that this resistor block has expired. It should be easy to locate positioned somewhere between the switch and blower motor. Hope this is of some help T.

Hello There Fiat Man. I bought a 2000 Barchetta which I love, 3 weeks ago. However, it does not have a red, (or blue) key. Today it has decided not to start. That is not strictly true. It does start as long as i dont touch the accelerator, and it will idle all day long. However, as soon as I touch the accelerator and the revs go above 1100rpm or so, the engine cuts out! Before I bought the car I was completely ignorant of this "red key" thing, and now that I have read about it, I am scared to death! Am I gonna have to pay upwards of £800 to have the car fixed? I would be evr so grateful for your comments!

Hey Mazza hows it goin? Theres a couple of gals with intermittent steering wheel icons popping up warnings on Puntos on the site and they dont know what to do about this. Any suggestions at all?
P.S. just had a new (well 56 plate) Grande Punto 1.9 Sporting and all seems good anything rumbling around to watch out for with these?
Cheers mate.

Hi there,
Basicaly a few months (yes months) ago my mk2 punto (1242 8v) began to intermittently loose power while diving. the power was on more than off so i ignored it hoping it would clear. Its now at the stage where it ONLY runs fully for 2 mins from cold then something definate kicks in (or switches off) and the power output from the engine drops off at least 30%. It stays at this lower power output for the duration of the drive then only comes good again once the engine is cold again! Someone told me the lambda sensor kicks in once the exhaust is hot and it prob wasnt working, so when it turned on, the lambda ratio was put to pot by the ecu-hence the time delay for power loss AND rubbish fuel economy. Replaced lambda at huge (almost unreasonable cost) and fitted new air filter but nothing has come of it - pretty sure i've managed to reset the ecu but no difference at all. any other ideas cos 300 miles to a full tank is killing my wallet!
thanks for taking the time to read this
