I have a 2000 "W" reg Fiat Multipla and a week or so ago the remote to open/close doors, set alarm etc nneded me to get closer and closer to make it work. So I put a new battery in and now it wont work at all!! I tried it in my spare key (both of which are blue,by the way) and still no action. After removing both batteries I could not remember which way round the battery went in, so I've tried it all ways. Which way should it go in (positive side up or down) the handbook tells you to be careful but does not tell you which way to do it. The red light on the dash is now unlit , what is wrong do you think? Thanks Tom

Hi Rach does the red lite come & go, cos its warning you that your cooling system needs a check, firstly check if you water levels in the radiator have fallen, as most basic models of Punto don`t have a temp gauge just a lite, look at the handbook if you`ve got one as It could be as simple as that, the red lite means that your Punto is getting, hot enough, to switch it on the lite, If this is accompaned by all the water jetting out of the filler cap & a sound like someones hitting your engine with a large road hammer, it could be your thermostat, easy replacement that one because depending on the year or model, any thermostat of Fiat origine should fit, I.e Uno, panda, punto, As Fiat fit that engine in lots of their models, & scrappy`s are littered with their models, as with most Fiat`s if it will fail in one model it fail in them all of course, or if your unsure separate the thermostat from the housing , & see if that works as in normally does for me, or it may be a stray wire touching to earth, sounds a lot but thats were to begin, hope this helps.

well M8 If the cable is slack as you say here`s the easy way, coz if this dont work then you`ll have to go subterreanain to release it, just put a pair of mole grips or vice grips onto the cable outer then when they have got hold of it take a pair of pliers and grab the inner cable, whilst you or someone else holds the mole/vice grips & pull sharply this should release the bonnet, once the bonnet is up adjust the cable oil or grease the slam shutter and holder then get someone to work it and once your satisfied that it operates smoothly shut the bonnet and It should open & close no prob.

Hi to The Fiat Man, I need help!! I have a Fiat Scudo van 1.9td and it's been off the road for a while as it's blowing smoke and i'm no expert as to what's wrong. I've been told that it might be head gasket problems but its not losing water? I can't afford an expensive repair and have heard there are some products that i can buy to put into the cooling system to stop the smoking. Can you help??
Regards MPD

Hi, I have a fiat tipo 1.4 injection. When I start it up, it revs then drops off then revs then drops off all by it'self. Any ideas which sensor it would most likely be please before I start stripping it apart tomorrow? I have had a quick look and the stepper motor isn't moving at all so it's not in that area. Thanks, Malc

if you're burning oil due to engine wear, you would put the stop smoke in the OIL not the water. it really depends how bad it is, but it's worth a try. obviously if something has broken, it won't help. what colour is the smoke and how bad is it?

Hi, Found my problem....Very very erratic idling, engine cutting out....all down to 1 HT Lead going down!! What ever happened to the good old days when all that would cause was lumpy driving?? Personally I hate these electronically controlled engines where a simple fault gives real weird symptoms but the actual engine sounds ok and not like a bag of nails like they used to.

I have a Fiat Punto 1.2 and it starts alright sometimes and then at other times it is having difficulty starting. When I put my foot to the floor with it it revs to life and goes fine. Im having this fault more and more now. We have a new battery now.
Tomorrow I drive to work and wonder how to start it up when I come home?
Thanks, Kitten

Got underneath and did the drive up the ramp thing, long arm up just behind radiator, freed the bonnet ok. Put a straightened out coat hanger from the release arm to the nearside top panel, so now even though I need to lay on the ground to pop the bonnet its no problemo, ta 4 your advice fiat man. I will be requesting your expertise again me thinks rgds Peter

hi paul you can buy the complete units from a motor factor for about £50 each and its easier to replace the units (radious arms)than it is to do the bushes,,you still have to remove them from the car,,then all you do is put the new radious arms straight back in ..i have just fitted a pair of these yesterday..believe me it the quickest way to do them....cheers...moz

Hi, I have a 1996 Fiat Ulysse 1.9TD which has given many miles of trouble free motoring. My wife drove the car yesterday with out any problem and parked the car up for 5 minutes. On her return the battery was all but flat. When turning the ignition on all the dash lights flash. I have checked the battery connections and they are fine. I have not tried jump starting yet because of the rapid discharge. I suspect maybe a glow plug problem, only because of the rapid discharge. Any help please.
