Hi Fiat Man, quick question on the mark 2 punto - light on the dash known as 'lights check' in the manual (when there is a fault in the lighting system). This amber light is coming on & off frequently, all the bulbs are working fine. Any ideas what this could be??

Does it have the standard red (burgundy) key with that model and if you have other Fiat key/s does it have a "2" next to the triangle?

Hi

I've just changed the timing belt on a '95 Punto 55 and now it will not start. The belt went on OK, the tdc marks were lined up on crank and cam and the marks on the belt. there's compression and a spark, but when the engine is turned over it will not fire.

Any ideas, please?

Thanks, but I've checked that and it seems to be OK - it will only go on in one position. I've been over everything I can think of and run out of ideas!!

Hi fiat man!

I could do with some advice if anybody is kind enough to help.

I've found a few comments on engine juddering but none that sound the same as mine.

When my engine is running the car occassionally enters a juddering which lasts about 5 seconds. It occurs when standing still, driving slowly (might even when driving quickly but i don't notice it then), both when in gear and out of gear. it passes and all seems okay again, sometimes i can drive for hours without anything, sometimes it comes every 5 minutes. i've tried pulling over and reving (it doesn't alter the speed or aggression of the judder) steering and braking hard, but nothing makes any difference.
when i turn off the engine and start it again, the juddering stops until the next random time.

Any ideas anybody? Help really appreciated!!

Most Fiat Juddering stems from one thing if it`s electrical, does the judder come & go when laden? does it only happen when it`s raining? does the judder Happen Intermitently with no apparent cause, because fiat are world renowned for this behavour, you could start with checking all electric unions on or around the engine bay check them for security, give them a clean & spray them with Wd 40 or anything similar, take out your spark plugs & look at them, & compare all the colours, as they should be a nice sandy shade of brown, & check the air filter, as I know people who refuse to change theirs as they need replacing every 8.000 miles anyway, find someone with a similar Four or five Cylinder car And borrow their coils plug leads, put some injector cleaner in your tank as when you run very low or out of fuel all the guff from your tank gets sucked into the fuel system and blocks it up all nicely for you

well firstly thanks for the response, i really appreciate it.

the car is a diesel (i should have mentionned it) so no plugs etc.

it judders when stood still, and also when moving, and without any rain in sight. it definately happens intermittently with no apparent cause, but i do find it happens more often when in traffic (i'm really not sure if it happens on the motorway as i think i'd be travelling ot fast to notice it anyway)

thanks again

Is it a compression Diesel or an electro compression Diesel or a turbo diesel, as the first one has, very few wires controling it, the second more & the turbo`s a nightmare! M8, but all the things I prevously wrote still apply as Diesels still have some thing to Ignite the mixture in the Piston bowl, & the Induction still requires filtering, & the last two need metering with lots of Seleniods & relays, best you start there & work your way back to the Induction, before it refuses to start in true fiat code light fashion.

yes it's a turbo! so you think it's electrical? might just buy a new soleniod, relays filters etc and give it a damn good service. just seems odd the judder isn't altered by revs etc. i don't know much about cars but have changed soleniods before. i'll work from there,

thanks so much - i'll keep you posted!

Hi. earlier in the week my steering wheel light came on. i read the manual it says 'electrical fault take to fiat dealer' but i dont want to spend money if its something minor! i filled my steering fuild up and my water and turned car ona nd wouldnt work then my frind was turning it on and off, heaters, lights etc and p/s came on!

Today got up to drive to work and p/s packed up again and the light is on! drove to work anyways as my book says i can drive without P/s and had no other way to get in. At dinner went to car and worked out P/s works if turn lights andheaters off???? then after turned engine off and a workmate looked at fuse box ( was raining so closed it up quickly) my car wont start??!!!!!! any ideas?!

Thanks

Lu

Well sorry if you want to save some money you have to get a little dirty, butt not like crissy aguilera. hope springs eternal that if you own a F.I.A.T. that it wont break down & run fine, so best find some one who does repairs cheap or buy a F.I.A.T. manual for your vehicle, & find out what to take off, spray Wd40 on, & clean, coz most F.I.A.T. journey`s start once you`ve purchased one.
