Would be grateful for any leads. Many thanks Tim Honnor

This forum had me hooked and I lost a few hours as I read all the past messages! I have an enamel bath but not a lovely glamourous roll top, more your 1950's council effort, oblong in shape, with square edges, quite deep and my husband loves it! I, on the other hand, feel it needs some help. It has been resurfaced twice to my knowledge but I would really like it stripped back down and done properly as it has a tendency to peel and I am allergic to metal and come out in a rash when the metal is exposed (I kid you not!). Two questions a) What are we looking at cost wise for this (bathroom needs to be completely redone anyway so getting the bath out is not too much of a problem) b) Can the plug hole be replaced with a nice gleaming chrome one, as past resurfacing has coloured it white and it now has rust coming through...not attractive! If anyone can help it would be appreciated lots. Thanks Ali
1. It is possible to get chrome inserts which fit inside existing drain, so no plumbing required. 2. Expect to pay anywhere between 150 and 250 for your strip+ resurface Hope this helps

Information gratefully received. Do you know of anyone in the North East of England who could do the job? Ali Also, thank you to Thermoman.
I'd recommend Northern Baths..they seem to do a good sound job from what I've seen- they'll be in sheffield yellow pages
They did a wonderful job on my bath and it still looks like new. I couln't imagine that anyone could do it better. This is an unsolicited recommendation from a very satisfied customer and I don't get a payoff! RGP
I wonder if you could tell me whether there are any resurfacing companies near the East Midlands that would come out and resurface our cast iron bath? Thanks
This matter was cleared up to the entire satisfaction of Hazlitts and my understanding was that the Manager posted such satisfaction on this site. More to the point we have carried out further work at that hotel in the mean time, to the satisfaction of the client
I never knew there was so much to know and get wrong with resurfacing a bath. Ta too all the professionals and Tubby for an amusing but informed discussion. Like many of the previous comments I found the total sum of the discussion very helpful. I live in an 19th century terraced house with its original bath and taps so now over 110 years old. The bath is rusty annd has been badly painted so looking forward to playing with hazardous chemicals and power tools to get rid of the old paint. Be nice to find a fair bit of enamel underneath but I'm not too hopeful. Then I guess it'll be on to tubby for the bath resurfacing kit unless anyone can recommend a good firm in the Newcastle upon Tyne area. Just for added amusement my bath is contained in a wooden surround with teak top lipping over the bath. Its like something from a ship. Brodski
