I read about your bath resurfacing. Could you tell me the name of your system - it sounds a bit like Worldwide refinishing. Anyway would be interested in more details. Do you accept work in central london? We have an old cast iron bath in need of attention.

we cover london so would be pleased to hear from you. Our process is unique and nothing like worldwide's. Our number is 01277 218418
Hi Thermoman. Without going into the secrets - how does your process differ? Also, do you repair chips with a filler & top coat or all resin as I understand Renubath do.

Hello A JThe main difference is that thermoglaze is not a paint enamel but a synthetic porcelain glaze. It is therefore more durable than paint surfaces, has a more original looking finish and is easier to work with. What do you use? I use both those methods to repair chips and also have another material that can be used. It all depends on the surface. Regards Steve

Hi Steve,Is it correct to say that your coating is still a solvent based polymer coating that is sprayed on?

I would like to hear from anyone who has actually used Tubby. I have a cast iron enamelled bath in good condition but pink, which I would like to re-surface in white. How good is the Tubby finish? Were there brush-marks/roller-marks? How long did it last? Would anyone think it was a new bath? Deb

I have read all the posts in this discussion with interest but I am still a bit confused (that's blondes for you!). My daughter has an original roll top cast iron bath, the condition is a bit poor - there is little rust around the plug area, a small chip on the edge and some thin enamel where the plug has rubbed against the side but worst of all someone left a bath mat in and it has gone yellow! Overall the surface is dull. I have used wet & dry sand paper and removed most of the yellowing and thought that polishing it up with an electric polisher would sort it but realise that the bit of rust etc. would need dealing with. Then when I read the early posts in this thread I was put off polishing and now think that resurfacing is the only option - the bath can't be replaced as it is a small one and nothing acceptable would fit. The question is do I go for the professional - Renubath have quoted only £150 but the warrenty is only 12 months or the Jaeger or the Mr Tubby DIY kits??? Mr Tubby gets good comments here but can't find anything about Jaegar. I am very competent at most DIY tasks but the difference in cost is so little I am not sure if DIY is worth it. Any comments very welcome. I live in Manchester.

My steel and enamel bath recently had a glass shelf fall on it, which has scraped a 10 inch by 1 inch strip of coating off. THe damage is on a top inside corner, above the water-mark. It's a good quality new bath (Bette). Using one of the repair companies on this board, would I be able to achieve a good matching repair that would last a number of years (3-5) to just this section? The rest of the surface is excellent and undamaged. What would I be looking to pay? I'm in SE London. Thanks a lot for any advice.

Hello Rach , I'm afraid i couldnt really recommend any particular company as people seem to be using a variety of different systems these days. However , my advice would be to get 4 or 5 quotes from different people. Ask about their warranty , this is your best clue to the quality of their work , some may say they only give a 12 month warranty but that its top quality work " we give a shorter warranty to keep the price down for you love " . Steer well clear of such characters . If its too cheap , then its not durable enough . Get 5 years minimum of warranty . Look to be spending £ 220 -- 300 on resurfacing and you will more likely to get a good quality job .As for etching , we ALWAYS etch the bath and always will . Our coating manufacturer produces an etch free system but he acknowledges that there is no substitute for etching the surface before resurfacing . It does "ruin " the surface , but thats what you need , to take off every remaining trace of shine which could prevent the new surface from bonding properly. Hope this helps

I supply coatings to the bath refinishing industry and would be delighted to help with both advice and putting people in touch with their local bath refinisher. This applies throughout the UK, Eire, central France, and a few areas in Spain. Please e-mail or phone me on 020 8964 9955.Simon Bailey The Lab

RGP Sounds a good method that Thermoglaze use. If you are still following this fascinating forum discussion, can I ask roughly what you paid? Dave N

I can't quite remember but it was around £350 - £400 I think, which I realize is somewhat more than some other types of resurfacing. However the result was truly outstanding and was money very well spent in my view. The bath looks like new and looks as though it has been taken away and re-enameled. I have absolutely no regrets and would recommend Thermoglaze to anybody. Why not ask them for a quote?RGP

Hello,I am not sure if anyone can help.... I have been told that enamelling requires a certain grade of cast iron for the process to work. Is this true? Is it a chemical process which makes the enamel stick to the bath or does the surface need to be of a particular roughness for it to adhere? Thanks
