Hi Anna

Is there any reason why you do not want to use my company Thermoglaze. Please let me know because I would like to be able to help you.

Regards

Hi, we live in a rented house with a metal bath (dont know if it cast iron or not). The surface has wore down and is now very hard to keep clean, part of it is also quite rough. Whilst I take on board everything that has been said about DIYers, the land lord will not fund a professional resurface and I am not prepared to, as we may not be here very long, so we have no choice. I know about the acid being v dangerous so what is the best way to prepare the surface, and what is the best kit, please?

Hi
Just moved to Lancaster and brought our first house, which has a cast iron bath. Only thing is it has black marks in it and the tap has dripped down the inside of it for a while (elderly lady had trouble turning taps off) can you give me any advice about what to clean it with to remove these marks or does it need a new coating? If so can anyone recommend someone and give a rough indication of cost please.
Many thanks

Give it a rub down with progressively fine grit wet and dry silicon carbide paper- start with 120 grit , then 220, 400 etc down to 1000 grit.
Be patient!- expect the job to take an hour or two.

Have read most (not all) of this discussion with interest and am now thoroughly confused. Though re-enamelling sounds like the best long term solution for anyone living in eth south of England it seems really impractical.
Can anyone recommend an in-situ bath re-surfacer who would work in Hove?

Alan

Hi Slaphead,

Loved your posting. I was looking for info on re-enameling my bath and got quite hooked on Andy, Gary, Tubby and the rest. Fascinating that all this goes on in the nether regions of our wonderful country. Just keep us out of the dreaded EU and it wil continue as such.

Hello,

We need to re-enamel a cast iron bath in-situ in Croydon. It is about 5ft, white interior, grey exterior, has not been re-enameled before, has a large chip - (that has been filled with car filler!!??) around the right hand tap. All taps are original - bulb type, fitted on the inside of bath. We love our bath but it really needs sprucing up - as it has worn matte and is stained.

Any suggestions of good contractors in the area with perhaps a 5year guarantee?

Thanks

Al

Hi,
Does anyone know of any companies in or around Birmingham/West Midlands area that do bath restoration. Got a 6' roll top bath with claw feet that needs some tender loving care, inside and out.

Is Hammerite the best paint to use to do the outside?

Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

With thanks
Tina

Hi - I have a 6' roll top bath with claw feet that needs restoration, inside and out. I live in Birmingham/West Midlands. Does anyone know of a credible company.

Do you need to use hammerite paint on the outside of these baths?

With thanks,

After reading most of the early messages I would say the best advice would be who ever you get to quote for a job, ask how they prepare the bath as this is the most important part of the process. I have recently had to respray 2 baths that had been done by a franchisee and asmentioned earlier the previous repair was added to a perfectly shiny surface and had nothing to adhere to. Anyone worth the work would cut into the surface and prep before anything was added to the surface.

For example of some work please feel free to google "The bathroom surgery"

Can anyone recommend a re-surfacing company in the south-west, preferably Devon/Exeter?

We are buying our first house and the cast iron bath could use resurfacing. Can't afford re-enamalling but would like to make it last a few years before we replace it with a lovely roll-top, claw-footed beauty (in our dreams...).

Hope to hear from someone knowledgable soon!

Hi cain,
If you can't find anyone to do it then give me a call on 07779 320 521 and I'll tell you how you can do it (safely!) yourself if necessary .
Hope this helps
