I had a new bath fitted around 4 months ago - a good quality steel enamel one from Kaldewei with a central filler - which my drunken lodger has just managed to chip quite deeply. I've been reading through this discussion and wonder if anyone could offer any advice regarding a repair, rather than resurfacing the whole bath.

Which material would be the most durable and unnoticeable, and closest to the vitreous enamel finish? Can anyone recommend a company - I am based in London.

I've just done a google search and found the range of companies pretty confusing. Has anyone had a bad experience - or a good one! - with chip repairs undertaken by any of the following firms: Magicman Ltd, Bathsurgeon, Renubath (seems to have had some bad press on here), Diamond Gleam (aka bathenamelling.co.uk), and Thermoglaze.

For a single chip repair, what should I expect to pay?

With thanks for any advice you are able to offer.

Regards

Chris

Hi, depending on where you live there is a very good re-glazing company down in Devon. The Bathroom Surgeon round about Paignton. I think you could find him in Yellow Pages. He would be able to help you.

Hi,

I live in the Borehamwood area and wondered if anyone could recommend a bath re-surfacer and also give an idea of how much the process might cost.

Just a quick note to say thanks to Scott for doing an expert chip repair on my bath - it is literally INVISIBLE. I'm really delighted with the result. Thanks again.

Hi.Not sure if this is the right place but we just need some advice about a cast iron bath that we have inherited in our new flat. We don't know a thing about it - I've searched the web for something similar but can't find anything. Here is a photo: it has feet and a very heavy black slate surround. The taps are particularly strange. You can't see them very well on the picture. Edit: now know the taps are 'globe' taps.
Our question is whether we should restore it or sell it on. If it is unusual, then we would like to keep it. Anyone know where I can get some advice and pinpoint it to a decade? The flat was built in the 30s so I assume it is of the same era? And how do I know how much to sell it for if we decide that?
Thanks very much

Hi,your bath is'nt particuley rare ,it quite standard in fact for that era.Your best bet would to have it resurfaced in situ rather than sell it,you would only get scrap value maybe a reclaim yard would buy it for £50 but you would have to take it to them.If you would like to have it resurfaced then dont hesitate to contact me 01908235485 i am based in milton keynes but travel all around ,where are you?

Hi just to say Bath Doctor in correct in his response, a standard bath.
Resurfacing in situe would be a great option. See examples here http://www.bathroom-surgery.co.uk

Thanks to you both for your responses and for the examples. I am based in Streatham, London (on the ground floor). How much would restoration cost? The bath is very narrow (67cm x 165cm x56cm deep) and the underside looks a tad rusty as you can see - perhaps it is a lost cause! The enamel is okish - a few chips on the edge.

I used Scott from Milton Keynes recently and he did a superb job repairing a nasty gouge in the enamel of my bath - he pretty much saved me the cost of a new one which would have been over £400. He uses Thermoglaze and I can't praise the result highly enough. My enquiry on here is not too far up the thread.

I have had 3 cast iron baths restored by Steve of Thermoglaze. He covers the London area, gives a 5 year guarantee and each bath costs between £250 and £350 depending on its condition. I was very pleased.
His tel no is 012177218418. I have no other connection with him!

Hi,

I have an old victorian claw foot cast iron bath and I really want to get it restored, but can't find anyone in the Nottingham area.

I'd like to get it vitreous enamelled as i really want something that lasts. (if anyone can convince me that the other finishes last my husband and our savings would much rather we found a cheaper option if effective)

The nearest place i can find to do our bath with more than a 3 year guarantee is preston and it will cost £140 to get it transported there and back.

Also can anyone tell me how the feet would originally have been finished?

Please please help, feel like i'm getting nowhere.

Louise

Hi

The only company in the UK that does vitreous enamel is Unique Enamelling based in Preston.

The feet would probably have been painted so you could do this or you could get them chromed.
