After a year of settling into our house I am now seriously considering getting our bog-standard enammelled bath resurfaced to give the bathrrom a facelift. Can anyone recommend a service covering Exeter in Devon, and give me an idea of price? Thanks

Had our 30's enamel bath professionally resurfaced about 7 years ago - now dull and difficult to clean again and looking like it needs re-doing. Is it more difficult/expensive second time round - thinking of throwing in the towel and going for a new bath

Hi, I did just this for a customer recently who wanted the bath to be stripped of the old and then re-surfaced. The previous job had lost it's shine and had a few marks/stains. I cleaned it and re-polished to bring back the shine. This would depend on the coverage of the first job though. Ian

Hi Boss cat, just resd your thread and agree with the bathroom surgery's advice.Although getting the bath re finished again would be better, the cost would be slightly more because the old surface would have to be stripped back to the origional surface, where abouts are you?maybe i can be of service to you or recomend a good company. regards scott

Hi Supersurfacer Joe, I'm still needing help with my old 1920's bath which has the enamel chipped away around the plughole and has numerous small chips throughout the surface and around the globe taps... Is there a chance that you will be in the Southfields SW London area anytime? I am ready to have the bath resurfaced as my job packed up and I'll be around home more :( Please drop me an email if you're available anytime before Easter. [Log in to view email] Thanks!

I have run a small family business for many years, re-enamelling cast iron baths. I have to say that the whole process is not rocket science but does take a lot of practice to perfect. We use one of the most common "DIY" kits because we find that it produces the best results. If any DIY home owner had the chance to have 3 or 4 practice goes they could probably produce a first class result. Regular drying, not cleaning is the secret. I guarantee the job I do for 5 years, assumimg that the owner is going to clean the bath to death. With care, the re-enamelling should last about 10 times that guarantee. It is a job well worth doing. Good luck with the centre piece of your bathroom.

Sorry I should make it clear that I do not go through the process of vitreous enamelling which is a very involved, high temperature process, produces a "new" bath and costs a fortune. I recoat baths with enamel paint, can be treated in situ and with care, should last for years.
