Hi Joe

I am in the Montrose area of Scotland and I could wait a month or so for a quote. How far North do you come when you return to Scotland?

I will give you a call and you can let me know if it is worth thinking about doing, thanks

Brgds

Joe

I usually cover as far north as Dundee. Best to have a chat on the phone and maybe we can get it sorted?

J.

I used Tubby on my cast iron bath and when it was first done it looked great. However it now looks worse than it did before we did it as it is all flaking off. We left it for 2 weeks after following all the instructions to the letter and it only lasted 2 years. Just wondering if it's worth doing it again?

Hi Andy,

Are you still in the re-enamelling business? I live in Torquay and have an old iron bath that is in need of your services!

Hi,

I have just bought a house and discovered nestled behind some hideous 1970s panelling and lovely old cast iron bath. It's actually in fairly good nick, tho with some discolouration where the taps have leaked and it's definitely lost its shine. I'm wondering whether it needs/wants reenameling, or if there's a less timely/expensive/hassled solution to restoring it to former glory? I'm not sure it merits the whole vitreous reenameling thing, but maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks
Nel

Hi,
If its just watermarks it should be possible to polish it to restore the shine .
What part of the country are you located? If you are near London I'd be happy to have a look at it and give you guidance as to the best option.
Ta,
Joe

Hello Nell,
cast iron bths can often be rejuvenated and may not need to be resurfaced.

Where about in the country are you?

I'm in Perthshire, Scotland, so a wee bit out of London, I'm afraid. When you talk about polishing, I'm not sure what you mean? Is this something I can do myself?

Thanks.

Bath doctor.
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I would like to get a professional enamelling job done on our bath. It is white and cast iron generally in good condition but is, like me, getting on a bit!
Our bath is in Costa del Sol Malaga Spain but I am unable to locate suitable "professional " re-enamelling operatives there?

Alternatetively, I am a competant DIY'r and have seen the [product manufactures by TUBBY. I am sure there are other manufacturers, do you know of any?

I would not want to go to all the effort if it was likely to only last a few years( we use the apartment 6-8 weeks a year). I would not want to DIY hot spray since it seems this is the best?

Do you have any suggestiond as to a professional OR DIY products

Regards
Tom

Hi Tom,
If you have the time to read back through all the posts you will see that there are many reasons not to do a DIY job- mainly revolving round the fact that you cannot adequately prep the bath without acid etching, and that a product that is painted on will look like it has been painted on (as opposed to sprayed on using hvlp equipment costing thousands of pounds). If you decide to pursue the diy route, I believe there is a product from Draeger (google it ) as well as the tubby kit. Alternatively if you are going to diy the bath then all you need is to get hold of a litre of solvented two pack epoxy and sand down the bath using some 180 grit wet and dry, then make sure the bath is dust free before you paint it - it should be a lot cheaper than buying the same product in kit form. That said, I would only recommend diy as a last resort....there are safety issues so make sure you wear a proper organic respirator if working with solvents. Hope this helps...
