Hi Mark, have just joined up and have been reading through all the posts. I hope you can help me, I'm thinking of buying a Elddis Elusion 510 serial number is 5GE55E5EL54501592. The seller says it's a 1995, is this right. Thanks for your help.

Yes Steve - assuming that the "5" after the "EL" is actually a letter "S"

hey mark, what a guru you are, exceelnet work !.
( Thats the warm up bit )
Hoping you can help, just buying an old caravan to try out this summer to see if the kids and wife like it.
All the current owner knows (Hubby Died and he dealt with it) is it's a ACE Ambassador and she thinks it's around 1980, but has no idea. Been to see van Mark and must say it is in excellent condition throughout, from what i can see it has electrics, hot and cold water and a shower cubicle.????? and two double beds one at each end There are no "Plates" on the van at all, nothing on the chasis so i'm struggling toput an age on it. Brief description of outside, it's basically white with a Maroon Stripe down the sides. I know it's not much to go on, but would appreciate any information you have, fingers crossed.

Hi there "guru", Yes that the one mark except mine has a maroon stripe down both side and the word Ambassador at the front of both sides, but the door and windows and exact.
Right Mark, do you have any details or indeed a brochure i could purchase ?, i'm particulary interested in the Weight of van and maximum load, but anything you have at all would be of interest.
One thing i would like to know Mark is, the van has both 12N and 12S plugs, would i need to wire up the 12S socket differently because of the vans age ??.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Terry, caravans were fitted with 12N & 12S plugs from October 1979 so i presume yours came with them as standard - in which case your 12S socket will be fine although I would check that your caravans fridge is actually wired up to the 12S plug. Yes I can copy a sales brochure for £3 plus an S.A.E. Your gross weight should be written on a plate on the caravan by law. Take into account that a heater, oven and double glazed windows werent standard in 1980 but originally the unladen weight was 720kg and the gross was 983kg. Regards, Mark

Hi
I have a Swift Corniche 12/2 with small silvery plate on chassis showing 1986 but nothing else legible and notes next to fuse box suggests first sold in Jan 1987.
I would like to buy or borrow or pay for a copy of the handbook/manual for this model and some guidance on where to buy brake spares. Thanks
Pete

i HAVE AN AWARD TWIN STAR 1985 .
i ONLY KNOW THAT BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD ME TO CHECK THE DRAW BAR SOCKET.
IF IT WAS ORIGINAL IT WOULD HAVE THE PREVIOUS YEARS TO PRODUCTION DATE ON IT.
Hope this help and sorry for the shouting caps , but I am not going to re write the details again.

Just bought an alledged 2 berth 1991 abbey gt, however I think that it may be older than this as it has no cassette toilet and is almost identical in exterior appearance to the abbey 418t which was produced in 1988. The caravan has an end kitchen but cannot find any serial numbers to provide proof of its real age. can anyone offer any advice on what year it may be or how to find out what year it really is

Hi pickles yes your "new" abbey Gt is certainly not a 91. you don't actually state which model it is but if it has an end kitchen it will be a choice of 212 , 213, or 214 - and will be a 2 berth. Cassette toilets were fitted standard from 1989 so it leaves you with the years between 1985 and 1988 - they all had a greenish colour band so that doesnt really help. 85 had one large front window then in 86 they went to three. In 86 and 87 they had 2 gas locker lids and were fitted with a 2 burner hob with a "griddle". in 88 they reverted back to a single gas locker lid but kept the three front windows, the shower room was wider to accommodate the cassette toilet as an option and it was fitted with a 4 burner hob. i presume from this you can narrow it down? The origianal serial number was on a plate riveted next to the entrance door - if this has been removed it is usually to "disguise" the age so that people (as you have) can be conned. Let me know what you find? Cheers, mark

Dear Mark,
Thank you for cofirming my suspicions and replying to my query so quickly. The Caravan was advertised as an Abbey 1991 GT. Once again thank you, you truly are the font of all caravan knowledge!!!!!
THANKS
